This is a good guide. You may want to make it clear that some of these are for bigger games. Getting an early mortar in a 1v1 is likely to get your frontline infantry overrun.
MG-42 is pretty good at pinning the infantry though. In theory, if one can micro manage it good enough, its gonna be very difficult to rush that position with infantry alone.
I used pgren with the German infantry doctrine, and it was interesting. Flanking from Sturmtruupen, massive amount of infantry. Thanks for showing me the opening
Sniper build is strong into UKF. Only difference whit me is that I first go for grenadier then for sniper and try to pair those two always as they complement each nicely.

I've been eying CoH for a bit, but can't really figure out if it's just a historical simulator which predetermines the actual outcome, or if you can actually change history. Say, win as Germany, or have more success as the Allies and beat the Red Army to Berlin, or have more success as the USSR and drive all the way into France and meet the Allies at Paris instead of Berlin, etc?

Also, doctrines with recon plane (or with Spotting scope upgrade) are better sniper starters i guess (Joint Operations has both Recon plane and Officer, or Jaeger Armor has Recon plane and Spotting scope). Or just build double 222s XD
I do go a different variations of the sniper opener by going double gren , teaching up and then getting either 222 first or mg first depending on who I'm up against. Not gonna lie as player who enjoy playing supportive, I enjoy playing Ostheer over the OKW. Yes its true that Ostheer is more specialized but in my opinion their better at 3v3 and 4v4 games where they support thier OKW brothers. I love the pioneers squad where by default they basically terra-form the map and turn it to your favor while panzergrenadiers in my opinion are very versatile and scales fantastic in late game where they can push with vehicles. Right now I'm enjoy the joint operations commander and encircle doctrine (also by default i always keep my blitzkrieg commander) definitely the fun faction for me.
I should show respect to Jonny's existence (his analyse of differences between standard Panzer 4 and WM's Panzer 4 J proofed that his opinion is worth to be taken into account). But in general this guide is TOO short.
HMG+3 grenadiers - popular, but not the best: 4 LMG grenadiers is even stronger, especially with abusing strikes from camouflage. But this "perfect" build has 2 serious problems: -early soviet Sniper (fourth squad of grenadiers will disable early 222 to counter sniper); - HIGH requirement for your micro (person whose build I am speaking about is 18 rank for every faction (top 42 or so)). If your micro isn't as good, it's better not to try it (you will have manpower looses, but didn't get resources superiority/VP superiority in exchange).
Double MG double pioneers - also great (I saw as it ANNIHILATED conscripts opening in 1 vs 1). The problems: HIGH micro requirements (at the level, similar to 4 grenadiers opening). If your enemy isn't just idling - your pioneers should not just capture, but also provide recon for HMG's, and try to deal as much as possible damage to supressed squads (so, enemy would be forced to retreat). Another "requirement is open map (winter crossroad is great for it). P.S. according to what I heart, this is "jaeger infantry strategy" (to compensate lack of Faust by grenadiers).

CoH2 isn't that. It's an RTS with a set scripted singleplayer campaign.

Yes, stug ausf f is great for 1v1 2v2 because of the límited resources AND smoke shot
