  • After the release last year of ‘Finding the Sacred Heart: Live in Philly 1986,’ Eagle Rock Entertainment is unleashing another classic Dio show. ‘Live in London: Hammersmith Apollo 1993′ will be released May 13 (track listing below).
    In addition to the 2-CD version, the concert will be available on video for the first time via DVD and Blu-ray. Pre-order bundles with an exclusive t-shirt and bandana are available here. Watch ‘Mob Rules’ from the album above.
    The release of the London show will come just a few days before the fourth anniversary of Ronnie James Dio‘s passing. Rock and metal luminaries gathered earlier this week to honor the legendary singer at the 3rd annual Ronnie James Dio Awards in Los Angeles.
    The event saluted Dio’s musical legacy with performances by artists such as Halestorm, Corey Taylor, Anthrax‘s Scott Ian and Rob Halford. It also raised money for the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer organization.
    Many of the songs performed at the event were from the upcoming album ‘Ronnie James Dio: This is Your Life,’ which will be released April 1. The tribute album includes Rainbow, Black Sabbath and Dio tracks covered by artists such as Metallica, Anthrax, Killswitch Engage and Motorhead, with Dio’s version of ‘This is Your Life’ closing out the proceedings.

    I enjoyed this DVD. Ronnie is in top form. I like the ‘Strange Highways’ cd, Like many I suspect, I came to it late. No problem with Tracey G. I suppose Viv & Craig’s guitar lines are engrained in our minds and heart . I have no issue with Tracey G putting his own spin on those earlier classics. I never saw any of this line up live shows, but Hammersmith ‘93 is a fine document of the line up.

      @@AH-nu2py Being a huge RJD fan since the 80´s i sat here and thought how amazing he sounded here at 51 years of age, to me very close to his peak which i think was around when he was 40 (around Holy Diver)

    • @AH-nu2py
      @AH-nu2py 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Stefan Sjöberg I actually think that his voice was at its peak in his late 40s, early 50s. Ronnie usually didn’t sing out of his comfort zone. His comfort zone just was difficult to get to for most other singers. He did that to protect his voice. His range was quite a bit wider than you’d think from his records. Since he was touring almost non-stop, unless he was recording, he knew he couldn’t strain his voice for 2 hours almost every night. Most metal vocalists did 2 sometimes 3 shows in a row and then had a day or two off. Ron usually did 3 often 4 sometimes 5. If he had a 4-5 show run he would not talk much during the day to rest his voice. On Strange Highways he went out of his comfort zone several times. This album was very personal for him and he loved working with Trace, Jeff and Vin. I know a lot of people didn’t like Tracy. I did. Strange Highways was a personal, emotional album for him. It’s my favorite because it’s so raw and honest. It’s more popular now but was pretty much overlooked and the label put zero effort into promoting it. It’s also more doomy and he stayed in that direction for the rest of his career. The first 3 DIO records had maybe one or two doomy songs. The last one “The Devil you know” was pure doom metal. You can’t rewrite Holy Diver when your state of mind has changed over the years.

    • @Stefan-
      @Stefan- 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@AH-nu2py We will have to agree to disagree about the age where he sounded the best then. Dio certainly loved being on stage and meeting his fans and it was not uncommon that he sang better live than on the album at least if you compare the tour for that album, you can pull up any bootleg (ive heard many) and the performance is there to the same degree as if he was actually recording a live album. Strange highways was great RJD certainly didnt hold back and spare his voice on that album, it was alot like the logical continuation of Dehumanizer, there were some great songs on Angry machines as well. Ronnie really did go out on a strong note with The devil you know.

    Will always love RJD but his choice of guitarist has to be questioned. Tracy G can barely keep time, and butchers all of RJD’s past work. And I’ll always regret seeing this version of the band in 1996.

    • @AH-nu2py
      @AH-nu2py 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Jim C If Ronnie was still alive that video would have never seen the light of day. He was such a perfectionist and he didn’t think his performance measured up. Plus he had a cold.

    • @Lanisteelerocks
      @Lanisteelerocks 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Tracy was the perfect guitarist for the songs on Strange Highways. This is like Dio's acknowledgement of bands like Alice In Chains, Crowbar and the like. 25 years later and bands like Rival Sons, The Sword, Elder, Clutch, Mastodon and countless more have proved true Dio's stripped down, riff oriented approach of this era.

    • @AH-nu2py

      Lanisteelerocks Yes, they were great, especially with Jeff Pilson in the band as well. Tracy G was sick that night too. Thought he did a great job.

      Do you play an instrument?What's "barely keep time"? One is either on it, or off - there's no "barely" opition, it's just not possible.
