  • Today, I take you guys along for a quick little update on the DTS as we try to figure out why it's been loosing coolant. It looks like it could be a water pump related issue, I'm not 100% sure yet, but hopefully we figure it out and get it fixed soon! Thanks for watching, and enjoy! :D

    The best way to find a leak on an automobile is to go up advance Auto parts and rent a pressure gauge that pressure gauge will find 100% of your leaks on any vehicle

    That WP needs to be replace and you need a special tool to twist and unlock the pump from that housing. the pump itself doesnt bolt in.

    The water pump in my 03 deville had to be removed with an air hammer when I bought it. It was so badly corroded in it wouldn't come out because it just rotates and clips in (No bolts). Literally had to destroy the old pump to get a new one in. It was risky but it worked.

    Hey Jimmy. I agree with Bryan, I would replace that top radiator hose with new clamps first since the antifreeze just pooled on top of the water pump, just underneath the hose clamp. Perhaps contraction of the hose overnight during the extreme cold allowed some antifreeze to squeeze by.

      That is a possibility! I agree with you guys, I'm ordering a new upper hose and getting some new clamps for it this week, may as well rule that out and cross our fingers! Thanks dude :D

      Thank you dude! I know you are our #1 Caddy fan haha! I'm going to replace the upper radiator hose this week and a few clamps and cross my fingers that it's not the water pump, but it looks like it definitely could be. We shall see! Thanks for the support as always my man :D

    You can hear the bearings in the water pump going bad. That water pump is toast.

      Put the old long screw driver to the ear and tight to the waterpump housing and listen for bad bearings noise in the water pump.

  • @zacht9116
    @zacht9116 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Those have external water pumps. The oring around the pump is the culprit. New waterpump and oring gaskets will fix that.

      My Oldsmobile Aurora had that same crapstar motor. I changed the pump and rings 2 times on it. Need a special waterpump tool to pull that thing out. My crapstar blew up at 160k miles.

    Patiently waiting for new videos on it... I just bought one myself. I have water in my floor, tryna track down drain lines and all that fun stuff. Just noticed a visible coolant leak under the reservoir area. Temp gauge stays midway, but the intake and coolant reservoir get hot as shit quickly. Any new updates on her?

    Put a cooling system presure tester on the radiatorin place of the radiator cap. Pump it up to recumended presure on the radiator cap and let it sit for a few hours. Check over the hose clamps and water pump. Sometimes the parts store have these presure testers and will lend them out.

    I musta replaced several hundred water pumps for the Deathstar in my 38 looong, miserable years at cad. dealers. [2] The special tool for R and R is a must.

      Like what you said Deathstar Government should had let GM go completely under Hard to believe GM got completely away with putting Deathstars in an American made car Always wondered What Cadi mechanics felt .Y'all even got screwed, because you had to work on these cars and still couldn't keep them running, because GM designed them that way. If you have pride in your work, I'm sure it had to wear you all down.

      @@mickywhaley1382 The warranty jobs were equally bad since GM only paid a fraction of the labor necessary to repair anything related to a warranty claim. Many times we worked for free on warranty claims due to insufficient time allowance. It's still that way!!

    The reason the coolant has accumulated on top of the water pump is because the leak is actually down around the bottom side of the pump but the belt is being sprayed with coolant on the bottom side and then the wet belt brings the coolant up around the pulleys and the coolant is then sprayed from the rotating belt on to the belt guard and from that point it is diverted by the belt guard and eventually accumulates on top of the water pump. The leak is down below on the bottom side of the water pump. So sorry but it is a rather involved repair.

  • @richardburchett

    Maybe it's coming out of the water pump in a boiling spray or mist and enough of it is collecting above the housing and collecting in that spot.

    When you were having the overheating issues earlier on, did you perhaps use any kind of stopleak or some liquid gasket or anything alike? That goop does seem to look like something similar...
    These Northstar engines are not known to mix oil and coolant together, so I doubt it could be that.
    As for the collected coolant on top of the water pump.. Like Bryan Gall mentioned before me, I would at least check the hoses and clamps. My Seville STS (as you can see on my channel) had been losing some coolant too. I replaced my Surge tank, because they can develop hairline cracks due to all the heat cycles, which is a common thing. But it ended up being the hose clamp from the surge tank... The tension on these clamps weakens as they go through heat cycles. So definitely look into that!
    I'm curious to what you'll find out.
    And greetings from the Netherlands!

    • @jimmycruiserr
      @jimmycruiserr  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for the input, I appreciate it! From the Netherlands too, that's awesome! We never attempted to use a stop leak or anything similar, but we did notice something collected a little in the surge tank that looked similar as well. It's confusing, but maybe at some point the car had some additive like the such in there and that's what the mysterious "goop" is from. I'm ordering a new upper radiator hose and getting some new clamps as we speak, may as well rule that out first and see what we can find, and there will be an update up soon. Thanks again! :D

    • @ItsDeJaPa
      @ItsDeJaPa 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're welcome! You're putting up interesting and honest content, I enjoy it very much. Heck, I found your channel because I was having wheel-bearing issues similar to yours (I had replaced one, seemed fixed, sound came back like yours...). Ended up with replacing both, like you did, and that fixed it.
      You know what, now that you mention the residu in the surge tank! Maybe the goop isn't any leftover stop leak product, after all... These cars came from the factory with Dex-Cool coolant... Do you have any idea when this was changed out for the coolant you are using now? Only thing that could debunk this theory is if the Water pump had been replaced in between the coolant change from Dex-Cool to another.
      My old surge tank had this red/copper/orange colored residu on the inside as well.

    • @jimmycruiserr
      @jimmycruiserr  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you!!! I'm glad you enjoy the videos :D Dex-Cool, that makes perfect sense! I can't remember exactly when we finally switched to universal, but I think it could be from that, thanks! Just got the new upper hose in the mail, and I'll be working on it this week! (sorry about the late reply btw, TH-cam notifications have seen better days lol)

  • @cutl00senc
    @cutl00senc 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Lack of coolant causes steam which will increase pressure, which then creates temporary leaks. If the leaks stop when coolant is full, then you have another leak somewhere else....like the heater core or the tank. Music kills this video.

  • @Ma-rw1tl
    @Ma-rw1tl 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You used the wrong coolant when you did your head gaskets on the previous video. USE DEXCOOL ONLY especially in the northstar. That is why your water pump went bad and overheated. DEXCOOL is original in these and should be flushed fully at 100,000 miles and replaced with DEXCOOL it is red/orange in color not GREEN!!!!!!
