Hey new to the channel but have an 2008 dts and appreciate that you don’t fast forward through the work. Look forward to learning more about the dts repair process. Can’t blame your dad I love mine too.
I have worked on cars as a diy'r and as a shop tech for about 40 yrs. And I stillgo to places like TH-cam to see what others have tried and done. With that said, thank you for taking the time to show us how YOU did it. But the best way is to take off the bumper and move the radiator. It's less work and less chance to do other damage. If this method work for you, then cool. AND again, thanks for for making the video. Many diy'rs with minor experience will certainly benefit.
That Alternator comes out the front, Trick is, remove engine support, and remove nut on motor mount, jack up engine on passenger side of car and Alternator slides right under the the AC line, Thanks for the Video !! It's still a tough job !!
I’m about to tackle this job myself, found your video for some guidance! Thank you so much! Keep up the great videos man! Cheers from Ontario Canada 🇨🇦 ✌🏻
wow you really did it the hard way. when i did mine, i took the whole front end apart. It's not as hard as that makes it sound. Remove the bumper cover (see a headlight replacement tutorial), remove the hood latch support, remove the condenser and move it out of the way without discharging, drain and remove the radiator and you can get right at it. If you get an electric impact, it's an hour or less and no bending stuff or losing your ac
Lol your way is the longer way. Way he did it is easier. I do this for a living. I've done it by the gm book break down and by experience. And this way is the easiest. If u put the AC machine on, to recycle the freon, right when u start tearing the fans out. By the time u get to the ac lines, freon is out. Swap ur alternator n hit a button n shoot the freon right back in. 1.5 - 2 hours tops. Book time is 5.8 hrs.
@@peteputros2412 i didn't pull the freon and i didn't bend anything either. I didn't say he did it the slower way, i said hard way. I refuse to believe gm techs are bending shit put of the way, and if so, let me know which dealer you work for so i can steer clear
@@Buddha_the_Pug never said anything needed to be bent buddy. Lol I dont bend lines, especially AC. Not even if a customer were to ask. And if your so experienced, why would u need to even worry bout stealing clear of dealers, u should be doing the work yourself, right?
@@peteputros2412 i did do it myself as i very clearly said. And if you do it like he did, as you claimed, then yes, you bend shit too. Now stop making a fool of yourself please, it's getting sad.

CGE Thank you, Thank you, Thank you my Cad is making the exact same noise I thought it was the power steering too even added fluid but still made the noise then I started to smell something burning and I knew it was the alternator when I checked the dash and the voltage was all over the place. Checked into local auto garage and they wanted up to 900.00 plus. So tonight 8 thought I'd dig deeper and found your video and now I'm sure I can do this, just didnt want the hassle but to save money I'm sure i can get it done in a day. Thanks for posting this video And Godbless :)
That's great, I'm so glad the video could help!! :D good luck with the job if you haven't started already (I just realized it's been over a week since you commented, so you may be finished by now haha). It wasn't the easiest job I've tackled, but definitely not the hardest! $900 is absurd bill for that project. Again best of luck to you and your Caddie, and God bless you too :D
with a 2003 sls I did it from the bottom removed engine cradle bolts on passenger side supported with jack lowered it has far as it would go removed ac pump and this give me enough room to remove alternator. every model and year caddy with a northstar motor is slightly different for this procedure from the top i would have had to remove fans headlights tranny lines lines to radiator and maybe upper radiator hose and then it would be a iffy tight fit while rubbing along radiator it worked my way and no fluid to worry about. Good luck it is tough job no matter how you go at it
With that hose thats sitting on top of the motor i think it goes to the top of the radiator the big hose i disconnected it from there it wont make it run hot right like air getting in or anything??
Man I got a 07 dts....unbolted it in like 15 minutes it took 4hours to get it out it was trapped....took 3hours to put it back in....its designed for the dealership to work on it.
Was there some kind of pin I n the bottom bolt hole of the alternator? I removed all bolts but the alternator won't budge and appears to be a pin of some kind in that bottom hole that I cant seem to get out...
I'm having a problem getting the reservoir from the tube how do I get it out I want to clean that reservoir out because I I want to make it look clean again I know one solution is soap and bleach
Alt. comes out the bottom on this year. W/O a rack it becomes a challenge for anybody. Don't forget the air bag problem. Careful, it'll put your eye out kid!
now 2024, paid over $900.00 to have fix it shop do it . ran through pretty deep water puddle after big rain, very bad location for electric item, like putting your entertainment center under your kitchen sink elbow/trap. also if power steering canister (common problem [O ring goes bad]) starts leaking fluid drops on alternator. who ever signed off on this location for alternator should have their ears boxed., in my case the water ruined it.
Why did they make it so damn difficult to get to, I want to upgrade my damn alternator but I do not want to go through this bullshit. I seen another mechanic drop the frame down. Only thing was, he was doing his at a shop
I have an 07 dts it's really not that bad to upgrade the alt it does take time tho! I suggest being very careful not to bust radiator I put a hole in mine had to buy a new radiator for 300
@@flying-fijiantv6282 I took off front bumper and took out radiator also have to take out the air box I removed good latch and set the condenser on a piece of cardboard right wher it sits also took off the whole piece that holds the hood latch

You don't have to discharge AC system ,you don't have to drain the coolant. All you got to do .Take off fans and move radiator assembly little forward. You created to much work for yourself my friend.
