    My god, that video is so old. Just watched it on 12-08-20. I agree, A2 is a great steel and Bark River knives are close to perfect. Cheaper plastic knives leave much to be desired. Thanks DBK for all the useful info. Stay outside!!!

    Congrats, I watch a LOT of knife videos and what you just showed was the sharpest knife I have seen yet. Truly hair ÈpoppingÈ sharp. You could literally hear them ring off the dge. Beautiful. I have a felt strop but its nothing like your set up. I must go leather.

    Thanks a lot for taking the time to do this video. I have a bravo 1.5 and gunny in A2 and wanted infos on the F1 for winter backpaking (I would like a light blade yet strong and stainless. my A2 knives and Izula rusted really quick on my last trip)
    I learned a lot from your video. I'll probably check the F1 someday :) Have a nice day.

    My comment will be unusual. I wear a suit. When I want to carry a fixed blade, it isn't going on a belt or a harness. The F1, within the factory sheath, goes into a front pants pocket. No bulk, No discernable print.

      Good to hear. I am getting a bark river Aurora mini or the same purpose. I’m going to make a taco style, kydex sheath that goes up to almost the top of the handle to wear with suits and business casual. Unfortunately for Maarten and Mikkie B, they would be arrested and imprisoned for carrying a fixed blade knife for edc in Denmark. Emigrate to the USA, boys! We have real wilderness, hunting, and you can move to the town of Bark River, where the best knives are made and the women all chew tobacco.

      Yes very Compact, thats why injection molded sheaths are the best possible option imo indestructible, easy to clean, allow for any construction and Attachment possible but mostly enable very slim Designs for the Lack of seams, Bolts, etc.

    unrelated to the knives in the video, but did you ever consider an old barbers hone as a tool for your steel? a few strokes on them work beautifully for knives that are sharpened to this level, followed by a strop, and your good, plus they are nice and compact. i keep a pike ezyedge (pre norton pike? not sure) you can pick them up for less than a mora sometimes.

      Hey, thanks for your comment and recommendation. I have never thought of it. They look interesting but I wonder if they can handle a very corrosion resistant steels.

    • @paipai7460
      @paipai7460 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have carried them in the past but only really for touch up on an already nice edge, the generally recommended use for them with razors is when you start to feel your razor edge dulling, about 8-10 light stroke can bring it back enough to shave with. they seem to vary from around 8k to 10k grit approx and vary in hardness. The one i have carried a few times is a pike ezyedge, i picked it up for a very low price on ebay (around $10) very hard, fine ceramic feel, i guess the best description i can think of in terms of a hone for a knife is a slightly larger and finer falkniven dc4 ceramic side.

    I never had a bark river, but i did own the F1, what I do not like about the Fallkniven is the tip, because of the laminated steel, Its fairly easy to bend the tip. Also the sheath is junk and handle is small and uncomfortable

  • @kevinAuman1
    @kevinAuman1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well damn, even back then in 2015 you knew how to put one hell of an edge on a knife! If I was able to and did put that nice of a mirror polished edge on my knife I would have a hard time leaving the rest of the blade all scratched up like that... call it OCD but I would use a wet/dry sandpaper progression and polish the whole blade then that would bea badass looking knife!

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha man I feel you. I've done that with so many blades but now there are too many to be even able to do that haha

      @@DutchBushcraftKnives yes I do know that problem all too well also lol I just can't stop buying new ones though haha if I like the way one looks or want to try out a specific model I just keep buying them and sharpen them, use it to cut few things then strop it back n toss it in drawer with the rest of them! Lol the addiction is real brother

    Hi Guys got by accident to your channel and its hilarious :) now to the F1 knife, I think buying it, but got several reviews on the tip braking off, any experience with that, can you test the tip on the basic F1? thanks

    • @frederikkjaer4170
      @frederikkjaer4170 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Daniel Lisy they made a video on this already. The tip breaks, but if you don’t use it as a prying bar (not what a knife should be used for), and only for carving, it’s not a big problem. Go and watch the video and you will see.

    Have you considered getting a Gunny in S35VN or Elmax? I'm considering a Gunny in S35VN as a EDC, hunting, companion general purpose knife to my Bravo 1.25 in A2. Thanks for the vids.

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Christian Cork I own a gunny elmax. It's awesome. I might like it better than cpm-3v. I am not so keen on S35VN as I had disappointing experiences with S30VN in terms of edge retention which isn't much different.
      Thanks for the comment mate! But overall gunny is one of my favourite knife models overall.

    • @LetoAt77
      @LetoAt77 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the reply. How is the Elmax in terms of toughness and edge holding?

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      edge holding is amazing in my experience. Better than CPM-3v. Toughness not as good as cpm-3v. However, I feel less necessity for toughness in these smaller bladed. I havent had any chips yet.

    • @LetoAt77
      @LetoAt77 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's awesome! Have you done any substantial batoning with it to see if it will hold without taking chips?

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I did batonning with the elmax. some knots also but I didn't do real stresstesting. It hurts the heart too much with a knife this beautiful haha. Mine has dessert ironwood so I have to care for the handle as well. But i batonned wood the size that fits this knife. It performed excellent. I might do some harder tests soon to check it out.

    Have you ever made a scandi edge completely convex by only stropping? Have you every made it a very thick scandi vex? Im on the border between convex and scandi for my new knife, because i am scared I will need to keep reprofiling my scandi edge so it doesnt turn into a very thick convex, should i be worrying about this?

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No over stropping will only round off the apex edge and dull it. It won't make your knife one big convex. I always make my true scandi knives slightly convex. You wouldn't even see it with the naked eyw

    Based on your experience this Fallkniven F1 is a really good knife as they say? I'm looking for a sturdy knife and not great it can last for moltooo moltooo time, I want a great product, you can do in my case this?

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Michele Trekkning
      I think it is very good for the price. VG10 is a nice mid-range steel with very decent edge retention while still being easy to sharpen. I like the care-free aspect of the fallknivens very much. The knife itself is very sturdy and I think the f1 will satisfy your needs.

  • @skepticspartan4795
    @skepticspartan4795 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Fallkniven uses a laminated steel. Its an outer jacket of VG10 (miyabi CMV60) with a high carbon steel core that makes up the edge. Awesome combo.

    For the high price they want for the F1 the handle and sheath are both a huge disappointment as well as reasons why I don't buy it. I like bark river, but their micarta is too slick. Neither will replace my Survive Knives Gso 4 and GSO 3.5

    Hello, do you like qualities are best Fallkniven or Bark River? Which one do you prefer?

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Michele Trekkning haha you still haven't decided have you? It's hard to say. The build quality is about the same. Fallkniven delivers a care free user while Bark river delivers a beauty that does need some attention. So in short, I love both for other reasons and i dont prefer one above the other. I don't really like A2 steel though. But from fallkniven i don't really like 3G. I do love VG-10, CoS, CPM-3V and elmax very much.

    Say Heah Double Major. I never got the B R Funny because if how happy I am with my (3) Bravo 1's. Two ate in 3V and A2. All three are Ramped because I like Choils, But if it doesn't have a choil, I like a ramp. The way to properly use a ramp and this info is by Bark River, You don't press against the ramp, but you place your thumb over is and back pressure your thumb against it with your thumb. I really love my Bravo 1's and the story of why the Bravo 1 was designed, The B R Gunny was involved in the design. But I like the size of the Bravo 1 for what I do in the bush, Oh that too, just like bears, heh heh heh. I almost teamed my A-1 with the F-1 because its was used by the Military Pilots. But because if my 3V Skookum Bush Tool and that its one of my Fav's hand down, I decided to get the H-1 instead. And No Regrets. To me its a Awesome Knife and Teams Great with my A-1 (.) No, no, no, I meant period instead of drawing a Boobie, heh heh heh. Yeah, so that's why I got my H-1 instead of the F-1. Even though its recommended as a Hunting Knife. It excells as a carver/slicer. A great knife to work wood with. Plus the way the Sheaths wear together side by side. Super. I'm a few days its supposed to rain so that weekend I prolly will take them on our weekend holiday. Infact its Our Memorial Holiday. So how appropriate is that, I almost forgot that its this weekend. Anyhow, I will also bring my Agawa Canyon 21 Boreal Saw that almost instantly became one of my Fav. Saws, Its Simply TiTs, Awesome. I really got a Great Saw that's self contained so no nuts and bolts to loose, And it Saws like a dream too, I might add. I can easily shoulder carry it and mills attavh it to my even Kodiak Gearsling. But I like to carry it on a shoulder carry. I also can't wait to compare my newest EZ KUT WoW Folding Saw to my Wicked Tough Saw. Which is very compact similar to my Bacho Laplander, but the way its base it truly is Tough. All Aluminum Body it definitely a real Tough Saw. But what makes the EZ KUT WoW Folding Saw so unique is the way the Teeth ate Ground, In groups of three, and that saws through wood quickly, I mean real fast. The two saws can also be carried in the open possition which is super especially when your building a shelter. Yeah, a added great feature. So with my Fallkniven A-1 and H-1 carrying them side by side and one of the smaller saw combos because the scabbards ate sold seperate. I can really dtep on the gas going through the bush. That's why I got the Crazy Horse Scabbard, First of all its Leather with a nice strong leather strap and also carries easy. In the winter on my cold weather scouts, I see no problem taking my 24" Council Wood Craft Pack Axe with the Heavy Duty Sheath and Sling. yeah, the Axe is made in the 5160 a great steel for that.So yeah, for now its just knives and saw. Although I do have some good knives that I Piggyback like my Ratweiler/Rodent Solution, Or even my Modified Rodent 6 with my Mora 510 as my neck knife. My Modied Rident 6 L@@Ks like my Ratmandu but on steroids, Its one of my Fav's and it has a choil. But I really enjoyed using my 3V Master Hunter with my Fox Jungle Parang and my Agawa Saw today. I might just bring them to outlet Memorial Weekend Trip that we already planned. Regardless of which knives I bring. It's all about friends remembering our fallen troops. But I know we'll eat good. I bought a few pounds of shrimp and steaks. I don't drink. But I will bring a box of Alec Vradley Ligero Cigars a 90+ rated cigar. A cigar you need to sit when smoking one. Yeah, their strong, heh heh heh, But the complexity of the Ligero Cigar has some Vanika taste to it, So yeah, their relish. I would of invikted You Two, But I forgot. Maybe one time when we party, Huh ?, heh heh heh.,,.
