Hello, I really like your videos, the truth is I prefer this format in which you speak directly because that way I can activate subtitles and I can understand what you say. All the best.
I had the pleasure of learning from you years ago as part of high school honor band, and although I don't touch my clarinet as much as I should, your lessons continue to help and inspire as I begin to explore a passion for teaching. Thank you!
Brilliant teaching re MM = the best you can do then. My teacher had me do it & next week it was up a semitone. In 12 weeks it was practiced in every key. We put it on graph paper & could see where improvement was needed. It sure kept me motivated. 5#s get my attention but doesn't terrify. Have you heard of that approach before? PS this comes from the Jazz/swing side of the CLT community. We love it too. It's how we get people enjoying themselves.
Great video - thanks! I'm 48 and from Denmark (Europe), and two years in with good instruction. My practice sections need more structure, so your tips are very helpful!
Hey JK! I've been loving these videos. As I've become busier at Stebbins, I've really missed performing. I'm now joining the Springboro Wind Symphony thanks to your recommendation. These videos are well-timed inspirations. Thank you for everything!
Hi Mr Kurokawa, I'm a young clarinetist (high school) and I'm struggling to find "my sound." Before my practice I listen to a recording of one of my model musicians and try to emulate their tone, but I'm unsure of how to judge how different clarinetist's sounds differ, and who to take inspiration from. I currently like Sabine Meyer and Robert Marcellus, but I was wondering who you specifically look up to as a clarinetist, and how you got your "sound". Also, your videos have been a TREMENDOUS help to me and I can't thank you enough.
Hi Olivia! To broaden your perspective, make sure not only to listen to clarinetists, but string players, percussionists, flutists, oboists, bassoonists, brass players, etc... Fill your ears with music! You've got some great role models. I've always been inspired by the sounds of Robert Marcellus, Daniel Bonade, Harold Wright, and Louis DeSantis. But there are many more- Ricardo Morales, Scott Andrews, Mark Nuccio... too many to mention. I really appreciate your kind words about the videos. I've had to slow down production a tad since I have a new class to teach this semster, but there's another one on sound and equipment forthcoming. Thanks for watching!

Do you ever have the chance to play bass clarinet?
Not at all, unfortunately. My primary position is as a principal clarinetist and Eb. Thanks for watching!
Do you do Tutoring??
I'm not taking online students at the moment, but thanks for asking!
