This was massive. I was in Europe at the time and it was crazy. You'd rock up to a pick up game where hardly anyone could speak english but they knew what a pick n roll was and knew when to throw the lob. Jordan truly globalized the game. Jordan was a coaches dream for his work ethic alone.
These euro championships don't get discussed much. Jordan won on the big stage in every competition he took part in. That competitive spirit, ability to make your teammates better, and will to win is incredible.
Nobody, absolutely nobody would have played with such a high level as MJ did here. His philosophy on "playing at the highest level every time because you never know who's watching me play for the very first time" is one of many reasons why he's the greatest of all time. He also wanted to prove the Bulls were the real world champions!
@J B hey lebron played in a small ball era dude...theres no great centers or rim protectors such as shaq, olajuwon, ewing, motumbo, kemp, robinson, mourning all they have now is white guys like jokic, zubac, olynik, zeller, plumlee, lopez, sabonis, zaza pachulia man..that list is soft centers..all of new centers are skinny not muscular as the bigman in 90s
I didnt realise this at the time, but this is actually a very important game especially when you consider what is happening in international basketball at the moment. This game is where the bulls proved that they were the true world champions by beating the europeon champions. And of course, MJ dominated showing that he truely is the best in the world - not just the nba
As supporter of Benetton Treviso, I was there! It was great to watch MJ playing, and to see again our star Tony Kukoc with a NBA team. Thanks for loading this video!
Michael, we miss you! No Rodman, no Pippen but the fighter wasnt going to miss a game.. Michael played every single game of the second threepeat.. what an warrior
Awesome vid, many thanks for posting this..... always such a pleasure to watch an artist plying his craft....... Jordan's skill and mental toughness will stand the test of time as the game develops over this next century..... a real honour to watch his game live being part of his generation. Thank God for TH-camand posters like hoopsencyclopedia and starks23 for providing all this archive film ready to load at your finger tips!!
This is awesome! I never knew the Bulls played in an international tournament like this. Way to represent the NBA! And imagine what the score would've been with Pippen and Rodman playing.
Starks, I have two of these games on tape, this one and another one. I have this game shot from the opposite side of the court, however. In the other game, Jordan grabs a RIDICULOUS rebound over two big men (gets serious air) and then jumps right back up to shoot it and has to hang and adjust like 4 or 5 times in the air to shoot it in with the "and-1". Amazing play.
I was there too ! 21y old from Switzerland. Remember meeting Ron Harper @ Fnac and the Bulls @ Tour Eiffel. Unfortunately, Scottie and Denis were not there. But I saw Michael, GOAT, in action !
Agreed with Zwach, because Jordan in today's rules would be even more dominant then he was in the late 90's. Rules today are way too damn soft now a days, Jordan played in an era which was 50x more pyhsical, this video is a great testament, you gotta love his play, best Basketball Player Of ALL TIME.
I have this game on tape as well. Mines is the one they aired on NBC, when the NBA was still broadcasting on their network. The crazy thing about this game, is that Michael was also suffering from having ingrown toenails during the trip, and the doctors had to remove the toe nails on both of his big toes, UGH! And yet he still performed great Thanks for the upload. The music fits perfect!!!
nice video excellent job, Jordan the G.O.A.T the song is a latin song called: "esa flor ya no retoña" but you must look for this version cause the original is different, well i hope i have helped a bit to those who want this awesome song ^^
This shows why he was the greatest. Just a exhibition game in Paris that meant nothing yet he played like it was a regular season game. Oh and someone send this video to kobe. I remember kobe saying that he won't take charges because he don't wanna go to the floor and have back problems. Then he had the nerve to say Jordan never took charges. What?? Maybe kobe was high. Cuz I remember all thru his career Jordan taking charges. And here in a exhibition game in Paris he's taking one
ricosauve5 Sure, but Kobe was kinda right. If anything, he should have taken it easier later in his career. He played like 42 minutes a night, took every shot, and was at times the only Laker getting back on defense because he was trying so hard to drag that team to the playoffs that he blew out his knee. He was never the same again.
That was my whole point.I had never seen him take a charge until I watched the 6:28 mark of this clip.Kobe was stating one of the reasons his career lasted so long because he didnt take charges(he said if he did take one it was by accident).and he never saw Mike take one. You're not going to find a regular season or playoff clip where Mike took a charge..
Thank you for the info. I remember him having a minor foot surgery before the start of the 97-98 season. Now that makes sense. Do you also have the semifinal game? I don't but I remember reading in an article (I think ESPN) that French players wrote "23" on their shoes in the semifinal to show their appreciation. Professional players playing for a top European team doing this? If true, that's the ultimate respect.
starks23 There was also an incident during a press conference where MJ slipped up and called a French monument by the wrong name and the French didn't care. For a country who jumps at every opportunity to make fun of people from foreign lands they perceive to be less cultured than theirs, this is a great a testimony to MJ's popularity as anything.
I guess it didn't matter if the bulls didn't have pippen nor rodman cause jordan will just simply annihilate everybody and the fans are very lucky that they are able to experience witnessing the greatness of Michael Jordan.
This was massive. I was in Europe at the time and it was crazy. You'd rock up to a pick up game where hardly anyone could speak english but they knew what a pick n roll was and knew when to throw the lob. Jordan truly globalized the game. Jordan was a coaches dream for his work ethic alone.
He didn't have Pippen and Rodman by his side but he still Michael Jordan : The master of basketball !
His skills ,mid range shot , competitiveness makes him hard to stop

the music is perfect. watching jordan is like looking at good art. :D
Still remember watching this from Manila when I was a kid. Wow! Didn't know it would be a one-time event! Very rare! Thanks for the post! :D
This dude is 34 yrs old still playing like this. Dam that's insane!
You see what Lebron is doing at 38 right now???
@J B hey lebron played in a small ball era dude...theres no great centers or rim protectors such as shaq, olajuwon, ewing, motumbo, kemp, robinson, mourning all they have now is white guys like jokic, zubac, olynik, zeller, plumlee, lopez, sabonis, zaza pachulia man..that list is soft centers..all of new centers are skinny not muscular as the bigman in 90s
Those jumpers are poetry in motion.
I believe that's been a great experience for each Olympiakos player!

Perfect music for a perfect player. And team, the Bulls
Watching MJ play basketball is poetic... No other player ever can evoke that kind of emotion into the game.
his hang time on his jump shots were really amazing! he makes every tough shots look so easy!
No doubt he is the best player who ever played the game!
Great honor for my team Olympiakos to face Michael and his gang :)

That fadeaway at 3:06 was just beautiful, poetry in motion! 😳
This is awesome! I never knew the Bulls played in an international tournament like this. Way to represent the NBA! And imagine what the score would've been with Pippen and Rodman playing.

It must feel pain in the ass to guard MJ. He was born to perfectly develop the art of easy scoring.

Yes it was Ron Harper who usually started but you also forgot to mention Dennis Rodman and Steve Kerr from that team (96/97)

Caffey was an underrated role player for the Bulls - he def contributed to their championship runs
great moment for olympiakos history....
come on man, a real legend is not just about dunk it's about overall skills, it's a team sport
I finally discovered the song that many people here liked. Type Armik - Dancing Shadows .

Johny rogers of Olympiakos (nr 15) also played in the 88 McDonalds with Real Madrid vs Larry Bird's Celtics
Nice song
We live in a golden age people!!

Guessing the commentary was French? Great song but shame about not having the comm if you've got it. Consider re upping it with commentary??

OLYMPIACOS
I guess it didn't matter if the bulls didn't have pippen nor rodman cause jordan will just simply annihilate everybody and the fans are very lucky that they are able to experience witnessing the greatness of Michael Jordan.
