It's so awesome that we have good steel that you don't have to fold a thousand times to get usable steel. People will say this isn't a traditional blade, but with the quality metals we have today, it could stand against any traditional Era swords.
Japan is a country that can only produce low-quality iron, so they have no choice but to make weapons that are strong and flexible by folding them repeatedly. But if Japan had been a country that could produce high-quality iron, the KATANA would not have existed.
@user-zk6bb8ih7u that's true in the time of the samurai when they couldn't get better steel, so they had to fold it to flush out impurities. Now, with the technology we have, it's not as necessary as it used to be. We can get our kilns to a much higher temperature through the methods and technologies we have now. It's always cool to see how far we've come from the methods we had to use vs. the methods we now choose to use.
@@benjamintworek they only really folded the steel 9 + 16 times which didn’t take too long. It usually takes less than a couple hours to do that. Of course nowadays we have much better steels than the people back then, but I’d like to argue that the swords nowadays only focus on the blade without giving much attention to fittings ( is an issue because if the fittings are too loose then it could cause an accident while cutting ), and those companies that do offer proper fittings : Evolution blades, Zsey, etc, those swords cost around 3000$ - 7000$ which is enough money to be able to have a sword completely custom made to your specifics in Japan. 💀
Pretty sure I’ve watched enough TH-cam videos of actual Japanese masters making swords out of pure crap metal to say using tool steel, isn’t authentic.
This is a small type of Samurai sword. This is used to fight in the small and narrow areas. Other sword is called Katana and it’s a longer and bigger sword. It’s used to fight on the open areas. Each Samurai used to carry two swords back in the day.
Katana were mostly a symbol of status and would find the most use in self-defense. On the battlefield, most samurai would use a tachi, odachi, naginata, bows and later tanegashima-guns.
It lacks just about everything tbh. It looks like someone who hasn't made 10 knives yet trying something a bit too elaborate for their level, or rushing it to put it in a youtube short.
