OMG!! There's 0 chance that I've noticed these were miniature sets without the bts. MIND-BLOWING. I think Sebastian just created a new level of filmmaking and a new way beginners can approach the big film look. Now, no need to scout for locations, no need to prepare a rocket to shoot on the moon(LOL) and less VFX/CGI. I personally love the Canyon set which looks amazing and realistic. Love it when you guys make videos like this.
Imagine this with a 3D printer now too. Where you can get any model you want, print it out in a few hours and then paint and weather and you can get any design you want.
I don't agree. Many of them lacked the motion to make them feel realistic. The winter set looked especially fake. The wall didn't look like a wall. The trees were to uniform and again, didn't move. Real trees move- always.
@@janfranklin5269 Well it was basically a wargaming terrain quality so no wonder. IMHO the scale was of the miniatures was far to small for such close up shots. Something more like 1/24 or even bigger would give much better effect.
The lighting is completely wrong, there is one source of light, the sun, and looking at the crescent of the Earth it is coming from a NNW direction, not west, which is where his light is coming from.
@@ricky302v8 Try imagining it like this: a spaceship light reflecting on the land, at then your idea will be cancelled in a certain way or another. 🤷🏻♂️
It's always nice to see people that uses diffrent techniques instead of digital assets. All the scenes are amazing. The lighting, the movement of the camera and the assets tell a story that make you feel as you are there. Excellent !
I liked the moon scene the most that was absolutely amazing the way he was able to get so much detail in a miniature set. The dramatic lighting helped a lot too!
For me it’s a toss up between the moon and the wall. Both amazing, but the wall reminded me of all the joy my miniature train set and world I created brought to me and my family as a kid. I think this might become my new obsession. Thanks for posting!!!
The moon landscape is awesome! What awesome talent and creativity which inspires and challenge all moviemakers to tell stories of greatness and inspiration!
Really impressive work, especially the desert scenes. Makes me wanna practice miniatures, sculpting and cinematography. I feel like there's so much awesome shit you could do for cheap!
Definitely the blade runner! Very realistic! This video opened with the blade runner miniature shot and for a brief moment i thought it was the actual shot from the movie until after And what a coincidence! I just finished watching blade runner 2049 before clicking on this video. This is so amazing I remember watching that shot in the movie and being completely awestruck and this guy just made it look so easy hats off to the guy! This just goes to show that even the most complex of shots can be achieved with so little
I am amazed at the amount of creativity and detail of all of the miniature sets. For me the one that stood out was the Avatar set because the lighting had to be just right.
I loved the opening shot with the head statues in the desert as it is so surreal and mysterious and otherworldly. I love the sense of loneliness with it. But all of the sets are amazing.
Oh, wow, this brings back memories, to the 'good old days' before CGI entered photography. I was an expert creating realistic miniature-sets, really loved to create the strangest scenes. If I nowadays show people my work from those days, nobody believes it was done without CGI. My favourite one is the 'blade runner'. The other shots are great too, but they are more like a proof of skill. For the 'blade runner' you need that little bit extra, not only to be very skilled, you need a touch of magic too :)
@@artlist_io Sorry for my late response. Here are some of my old "Without Photoshop" pictures. It is on a very old website of mine. In those days one could build websites with Apples Aperture. www.petersmith.nl/Fotograaf_te_Amsterdam_Photography/Portfolio/Paginas/illustratie.html#0 (The last picture might be a little offensive. Please bear in mind; what you see is made entirely out of Play-Doh, except my own face. This is mounted in it afterwards. And yes, for this I used Photoshop. Love to try these things once more, now with video. Do you guys think there's a market for that?
I liked all of them because each has a different style, complexity, and strategy. With each the artist showed his variety of skills and amazing creativity. Each one of them out me in a different mood. Even though it was short, it left a huge impact - it made me want to go back to my filming which I stopped during this crysis. This was s long but 100% honest opinnion.
Really enjoyed seeing the moon and canyon. These video keeps me inspired. He is learning and countine to push in the past 8 months helps me who is learning the craft still
Loved this and appreciate the work that went into each set. The canyon set would be my pick for its seamless blend of miniature with stock footage. The result was very realistic.
It is a challenge to just pick one scene; they were all inspiring and masterfully rendered. I would say, from an educational (DIY) perspective, that the Canyon scene stood out. It was good to get a sense of not only table-top prop production but also what could be done in post with green-screen to really manage the dramatic setting and take it over the top. No one would believe that it was a DIY project in a controlled environment. Beautiful. Thank you, Sebastian. Thank you, Artlist for promoting this talent and making it so accessible.
I realy like the blade one, it has such an artistic touch and looks so good. It really seems like it is a real place you can visit. The faces look like they are a entrance to another place out of this world!
My favorite was the desert, it looked straight out of a movie and it gave me a lot of inspiration as i’m working on a series that takes place in a desert and have been learning from videos such as these
This is awesome! Thank you for showing us how these sets were made! Would it be ok to ask what camera and lens set up did you use for this? Especially would like to know what kind of lens you would use for a forest set that allows you to do a dolly forward through trees. Cheers!
I liked them all but the one that stood out to me was the canyon. It was really a great blend of assets, model, green screen bg replacement, grading, atmosphere...the whole package...that lens was crazy too
The blade runner scene definetly is my favorite. 🔥 I love the colors and the mystical mood that the hands and faces create. Must take days to build - perfect activity for times like this. My greatest respect to Sebastian!
Its amazing to be able to see someone having the same goal. Am an architecture student with interest in movie production...its really amazing with what he`s accomplished so far:)
I just started to build scale model of houses from my favorite movies when we had covid-19 lock down. I find it very relaxing and helps to give a mental release. building miniature houses of horror films & comedy . The moon set look so real it Amazing !
Wow, these DIY miniature sets are mindblowing. What he says about having top quality shots even with your phone is true, I would like to suggest even a potential one-up to that: now with the 3d scanning capabilities of the LiDAR scanners (or the more pro scanning software that use thousands of pictures to reconstruct) he could actually extract full 3d models and use it for the more wackier 3d camera movements or more complex lighting effects. For these dolly steady camera shots though, I find it perfect like it is.
As a War gamer who makes my own scenery I can see the skill in this. Excellent!!! The ice field / snow scene is my favourite as this really pulls you in from the camera approach & the texturing of the rock wall.
I loved the canyon set the most. It was well executed with minimal set pieces and using perspective to his advantage. That world felt larger than life.
The set I most enjoyed was the Blade Runner one, at first had to look twice. But the Canyon one somehow felt the most realistic one, amazing work on all of them!
Definitely the Hugh big Ice Wall from GOT. The immersion is perfect and I dont want to know how long he has to Work on it. ...and now... Fingers 🤞🏽crossing 🤞🏽

Ok, dude, that moon "scene" was amazing. The way it played with the light.
And the wall... who doesn't like a wall...
Mongolians, Mexicans and Wildings that's who
Me. That wall shot was the only one that looked fake.
All the miniature sets were incredible, however the neon effects for the Avatar world were on another level.
Gosh that canyon is BEAUTIFUL. Life goals right here.
Wow! This is awesome. Those probe lenses are ridiculously fun.
Miniatures and practical effects are why i believe in movie magic!

Space miniature set is cool And the mini led light used in it awesome and the lens flare worked well
the canyon set is my favourite looks so real and I like how the shot zooms in and out of the cowboy.
I am amazed at the amount of creativity and detail of all of the miniature sets. For me the one that stood out was the Avatar set because the lighting had to be just right.
The Avatar set was really something else! 🤩
I liked the ice wall. Why, because I love GOT!!! The moon was dope too! I liked how you can see all the different shadows as the light passes by.
I loved the opening shot with the head statues in the desert as it is so surreal and mysterious and otherworldly. I love the sense of loneliness with it. But all of the sets are amazing.
That one definitely looked other worldly
I loved the moon miniature because the lighting and its movement made it feel so real. Also it totally reminded me of Star Wars.
It has that special something doesn’t it? 🤩
