    Thanks Sam. Just walked from Harleys for a little while and got myself a XV535 to bobber up. These 10 video's you have made on this bike are all great vid's and have got me eager again after a bout of Bi-polar, to take to my tools again. Cheers. Jay London UK

      @@JunkworksGarage I think your personality and approach is very calming to a quick tempered person like myself, although I have been told my progress over the last 3 years is very good Hahaha ;) I look forwards to any future videos on the bike and will activate the notification bell. This info is a god sent to me, thanks. Be good now and if you can't, be careful! ;) Keep the rubber on the road ;)

    Great vid, thanks. I'll be pulling the tank off my '85 700 this week. I am going to attempt to siphon out as much gas as possible before pulling it off. Might cut down on the spillage.

    Fly me I didn't think I would find a recently published vid on this. Thanks mate much appreciated.. I am restoring a 1984 xv1000 maroon/gold. Last on the road 1997!!! dry stored though.. Project n half for me (getting by with a little help from my friends also) Tank off Carb was a pin cause of the top carb boot bolts (locator).. That's goin off for clean tomorrow and the reserve tank and fuel lines I believe are shot.... Thanks again for this vid, made it easy to go it alone on this section of bike.

    I believe the hose clamp the one you squeeze to remove is called a Corbin Clamp.

    The trick not doing a mess if you unmount the tank: unfix the rear hose on the fuel pump, so you get the entire tank empty...

    Certainly will do. Will be replacing turn signal stems... Re chrome spraying the bits that were originally. Need to oil the plug holes and turn manually before trying to start :)

    Sam, I know you did this video ages ago, but do you remember if you had any problems reconnecting the fuel hoses on the underside of the tank, like air locks? Did you re-use the spring clips and did it run ok? I'm asking because I want to remove my tank to re-spray it.

      @@JunkworksGarage Hey Sam, no worries, whenever you feel inspired to look over that nice old bike again. Your tank removal was really helpful, so I feel inspired to get on with my XV's tank, but I just felt a little nervous about the 'putting it back together' part! Thanks a lot, and Keep us posted.

    Very nice. So your machine I'm assuming is fuel injected? My wife's has a carburetor (with the petcock). I was "told" by "many" and "professional tire kickers we had a leak in the tank. We're trying to sell it and they're weaseling the price down. (not gonna happen). Watched this video and you're right! So easy to remove! Selling price just went up! Haha. Well anyway...EXCELLENT video. Thanks!

    • @pilotlangdon
      @pilotlangdon 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pretty sure these are all carburetors. There is also a smaller tank on the left thats under that side panel. There also should be a fuel pump on the right side near the foot peg on top of the gear box

      @@pilotlangdon Yeah, I was researching for at least a fuel filter. The Clymer's service manual had only the XV1000 and 1100 and diddly squat for the 700, but I am assuming the 700 is in the same place (thanks for the info on the placements and what to look for...gonna check them out). I still have to give a look as soon as I get the '72 carb (just finished with that rebuild and installing and starting tonight...hahha..sorry neighbors). So after that going after the filter on the Virago. Does it have a fuel pump too I wonder, you said there was, I'll check? It would be clogged as well. (oh, and I'm sure the carb needs a rebuild. Oh God). I'll sift though your vids with hopes you may have something there. I won't say diddly unless I have a specific question (unless you have something to add and thanks in advance). Waiting for a new petcock for it also. The "tank" leak was actually the petcock. I'm retired? From what? haha Cheers man!

      not positive i believe one goes to the reserve tank and the other goes to the carbs but it's been a long time

    • @optiskeptic4746

      They both go to the ‘sub tank’ (I’ve never heard of that before but that’s what it’s called on the diagram they kindly included on the sub tank which you can see when you remove the left side cover) I think the smaller hose is a vent line... btw I found an easier way to take off the tank without spilling much if any gas ... I’ll take a picture as I’m doing it right now and put it in a main comment

      @@optiskeptic4746 Hello, just taking a shot in the dark here seeing it's been 7 months since your post. Did you ever come around taking those pictures? I want to remove my fuel tank to have it repainted and if you have a good way of removing it without getting gas all over, I would be all ears. Thanks.

      not without ruining it sorry but the best way to open a lock without a key is to drill the lock until you can use a screw driver to turn it
