Land of the Free Diplomacy Commentary

Here's my after action report on the game "Land of the Free," which I played on PlayDiplomacy on the variant map "War in the Americas". The game was number 168614, in case you want to search for it yourself.

This video is about the game of Diplomacy, an American strategic board game created by Allan B. Calhamer in 1954 based on the European Great Powers in the years leading up to World War I. The game was the favorite of John F. Kennedy and Henry Kissinger. Seven (7) players control the respective powers of England, France, Germany, Austria, Italy, Russia, and Turkey and fight for world domination (control over Europe), using negotiations, diplomatic skill, tactics, and grand strategy to establish covert deals, attack mutual enemies, and backstab established allies. A "stab" is the word for betraying your ally.
TL;DR: Diplomacy is basically Risk without the dice, or chess with seven players on a world map.

GB is the power that can't bring many units to support an ally, but can provide support in different areas of the map.

That's a solid assessment, yeah. Unfortunately, on paper, it looks too powerful to be allowed to grow. There have been various games (not just when I'm playing as GB) where I've seen Britain targeted because of this. It's a difficult thing to avoid for many players.

It seems like America has a weak position? they die alot between British, Mexicans, and the Spanish armada.

I don't think it's particularly weak. It's about as strong as most others on the map. I would rather play as Mexico, though, I think. But most people have neighbors in Diplomacy, and Great Britain and Spain in particular can fight each other just as easily as USA. Same with Spain and Mexico.
