    You're gonna love this one. I figured out the water pump problem and the problem was me. The pump works fine and I feel like a newbie for missing this. It turns out my tank level was too low. So the pump was probably sucking air through the overflow. Yes. This occurred to me at 1AM and I had to go check. Sure enough. Thanks to those of you who chimed in to try and help, and thanks for not asking me the obvious question "is there water in the tank?" Hehe :)

      Just an FYI, but if you set the water diverter from "normal operation" to "fill fresh tank" (it's that knob on the back wall in the pump compartment) the pump will run like that all the time when you turn off the water coming into the coach. When I saw your pump running I thought maybe that was the issue but I could see the diverter valve was in the normal operation mode.

    Now that I've removed, recovered and replaced the dash in my 2000 Chieftain, I thought you might like an update on my experience.
    First, advice on removal. Remove as much of the console as you can and move it out of the way. I removed everything except the engine instrument cluster. There are some large molex connectors that can be disconnected, and the backup camera comes out.
    There were four 1/2" nuts that had to be accessed from inside the engine compartment, right up against the windshield. One in front of each of the defrost vents. Use a long extension to get a socket up there.
    There were five 1/2" bolts spaced equally across the dash, bolting the front/lower half to the rear/higher half. Three were easily reachable with the console removed. The one near the passenger window wasn't too bad either. Without the passenger seat removed, I could have got at it with a couple of long extensions on the socket. The one between the center and passenger side bolt required lifting and entire assembly to get a ratchet on it.
    Before you can lift it to get at that last bolt, you have to remove four "legs" that have self tapping screws into the center box (heater plenum?) and side walls. The lower aluminum channel holding the stabilizing jack controls, vents and cigarette lighter sockets is held by small screw going down into it from above about every eight inches, and one screw going up at each leg.
    With that, it will come out, slipping the engine instrument cluster through the console's hole. It doesn't come out easy. It's a tight fit, and the glue used on the original covering has a hold. But, removing it is worth the effort. It appears condensation will trickle down the windscreen, and rot out the metal support structure in front of the dash.
    Using cardboard to protect the glass, I sprayed that area with rust conversion, primer, and then paint. Then I spread a layer of Sitka sealant. If your dash hasn't been off in 20yrs, I would suggest pulling it to inspect this area.

    What a cool thing for my husband and I, as we are a national owner and I have worked hard to set the mood, the name was sea view, nothing on inside that looked like coastal life, so I worked hard to paint the wood🤭 a white wash to go for beach cabin, and painted the bottom cabs blue of corse , found most unique flooring that looks like old wood planks that have been painted and wore off, like yours it is in good shape we have lived in it for a year and wow I love it, more to do like inside hallway closets and bedroom closets for better storage. This one has great storage as I am an artist I need the whole hall way so we are still working. Someday I will make a video. Next is outside, those pesky vinyls yuk tried painting but just one stripe, it looks ok even very ok from distance but I want paint, we do full hook yet and we got kicked out of one place . Not because of looks , it’s not that bad, just needs bath for roof but because of age 20… so hopefully I can be acceptable with paint, of corse. Thanks for ideas if there is money saving ideas for cracked or fades I haven’t used let me know.

    Tito, I really enjoy your video content. We have a 1999 34V D/P Adventurer bought at the height of the motor home shortage in 2021. I have done many repairs and a few upgrades and hope to create a couple of videos to share as I found next to nothing except James at AZ Expert who also saved my bacon with his roof knowledge. Did the same repair as you but I had to scotch bright my roof an applied oil base marine paint made for fiberglass bought at Lowes. (Rust-Oleum Marine Coatings Topside Paint Semi-gloss White Enamel Oil-based Marine Paint: 1-quart. First coat took a bit more than two quarts.
    The paint on your rig is in amazing. One item I heard you mentioned was Dicor. I know James has said many times that product won't stick long term to the self-leveling silicone that Winnebago uses. Heng's 95502 White NuFlex #311 Sealant was his go to for self-leveling on these roofs. Just checked the price and it even more expensive that last year.

    One small thing that I did recently was replace (so far seven) of the electrical outlets with residential/commercial grade outlets using this box:
    www.homedepot.com/p/Carlon-Blue-PVC-1-Gang-8-cu-in-Flanged-Shallow-Old-Work-Electrical-Outlet-Box-B108R-UPC/100404058
    and these outlets:
    www.lowes.com/pd/Eaton-15A-125V-Commercial-Receptacle-WH/1002785010 I like them better than the Leviton
    for the walls but gluing a strip of wood behind/inside the wall so the small wood screws would adequately secure the box. I also made a template the exact size of the new box and for marking and used an oscillating tool To carefully cut our the exact size for the new box. Our model also had a 3/4" oak standoff for the outlet giving it the additional room needed. I didn't noticed those in your class A videos. I also did have to replace the supplied screws with # 6 x 1-1/4" long screws That I fortunately had laying around from a prvious project.
    www.mcmaster.com/products/screws/rounded-head-style~truss/thread-size~6-32/
    Trying to figure how to make a nice TV cabinet like you did in your class C. That come out very nice! With our model it is a game of inches. Looking forward to the new A/C installation.
    Cheers

    Pro flex states its not for rubber, so that means I shouldn’t use it on an EPDM roof? I think your roof is fiberglass if I recall from the last video? I want to follow your lead and give my roof some needed upkeep, but I do have a epdm roof.
    I had the same issue with the water pump when the wife let the water pump run with no water in the tank for over a couple hours. I think it blows the seals and couldn’t build pressure as a result and would run non-stop. Had to replace it and problem was solved. Thanks for the video’s Brian!

    • @RVwithTito
      @RVwithTito  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RVwithTito Thanks for the reply! I really liked the process you demonstrated on the Class A. Attaching the rails with VHB tape was cool. I want to do the same, but since EPDM is designed to “shed” layers over the years, I wonder if VHB would be a viable means of attachment or should I do some roof penetrations. I used a 100W solar panel @ Lone Rock daily and it kept our AGM Battery topped off with no problem. It was great, so I think we’re ready to follow suit and put them on the roof. I had to rotate the panel through the day as the sun moved…

    Loving the advice, as I'm at almost the exact same stage right now. I bought a 2000 Winnebago Chieftain a couple weeks ago, and have been at it every day since. On your advice, I got the AC coil cleaned out last night. I don't think it had ever been cleaned. Couldn't find the coil at first, because it was so matted it looked like the wall. But, I sprayed the cleaner, waited, rinsed, repeated, until the can was empty. I can now see right through the coil.
    I have all the carpet out. The carpet glue in the cockpit area was an entire weekend job. Found that I could let is soak in acetone for a few hours and it would get much softer.
    After installing two new Fantastic Fans, I got the roof coated in two coats of Tropicool all the way down to the marker lights on front and back. I like this. Everything feels sealed really solid.
    My biggest obstacle right now is getting the dash off so that I can cover with new vinyl. Painting will not work for what is left of the original. Any ideas?

    • @RVwithTito
      @RVwithTito  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      How satisfying that must have been to expose the coil again :) The projects are never ending. I just spent the last couple weeks getting the RV exterior all re-sealed :P Sorry. I don't have any ideas about the dash yet. Do you need to remove it to cover it though?

      @@RVwithTito I can't see how to get new fabric down past the front without taking it out. But, I moved to the back and started working my way forward. Bedroom is done. Bathroom I'm avoiding. New floor is about done back to front. I'm moving back to the dash tomorrow.
      Here's something to consider. Vinyl tile. The good kind shaped like boards, with the feel of the grain in it. Don't lay it straight. Snap a line down the center from the cockpit all the way through the bedroom. Lay the planks at a 45 degree angle so that the tips interlock. Now, lay down a row to the outside of those two, angled in the opposite direction, again interlocking with whats there. If you substitute in a different color plank for one "row across", you get a W. If your wife starts suggesting that you need to redo the floor that you just put down in the real house, you done it right.

    Hey Brian. Be sure to check out the sealant call-out sheet from Winnebago for your coach. If they used silicone sealant during manufacturing then you’ll have to use silicone, not Dicor. Dicor will never stick to silicone no matter how well your clean it. Not sure about Eternabond or the Gorilla tape. Learned that the hard way after re-sealing the bathroom skylight on our 2008 coach with Dicor. It peeled away very easily. ProflexRV silicone sealant is good stuff.

      Thanks Brian. I have a tube of the recommended self leveling sealant but haven't used it yet. Don't plan on using Dicor. Yes. I'm really liking the ProFlex and always seem to be needing more. Good stuff. Hope you guys are doing well.

    Looking great Brian, so much work involved in caulking that roof and windows!
    On our old Georgie Boy we had curtains on the front window and I hated them. On on our new Mirada we have MCD power roller shades (the black out and tinted one). They are awesome when parked and great when driving into a setting sun. I suggest that you look into them. They are are also awesome on the side windows to keep the sun off you when you are driving. The best thing about a class a is the view and the worst thing is that all that glass becomes a greenhouse on a hot day.

      I just finished the re-sealing jobs today. It's taken this long. Ugh! and Yay! Melissa is working on the replacement shades. I think they'll turn out fine. Thanks for the suggestions. BTW we do have privacy shades that clip to the outside while parked for a while. But we do spend a bit of time on the road and often stop at rest stops, parking lots and other places. It's nice to just pull the shades inside from full privacy.

    On both of our Winnebagos there is a switch in the water system that goes from "normal" to "tank fill". That's how you fill the fresh water tank from the city water hook-up. If that switch is left on "Tank fill" while the pump is on, the pump runs constantly.

    Our water pump keeps running as well, usually after a prolonged time without using the pump. We usually open the faucet, let the air and the water out and then the pump pressurizes the lines and stops. All I can figure is there is air in the system between the pump and the faucet which is messing with the pressure.

    • @RVwithTito
      @RVwithTito  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely air in the system. Figure it out last night. The water level was too low, so it was sucking air through the overflow outlet. Oops :)
