I saw Idiocracy in the theaters as a teen and thought it was just ok. Saw it later as an adult and it’s uncanny how it parodies modern politics and became one of my favorite films.
Saw it a few years ago and was like damn this aged well. Talk about forshadowing.
I wanna say it came out when I was 12-13 maybe, I remember thinking it was kinda funny. Once you get older you notice alot more.
Idiocracy is like wine. Not that great a week after bottling, but will only get better with age.
Just cause it predicted dumb asses doesn’t mean it was good. You were right, it was just ok. I also saw it in the theaters and was super excited as I LOVED office space and mike judge
I saw it on daytime tv in 2008 2009 sometime. I couldn’t believe I had never heard of it, I was blown away
Idiocracy aged very well
Its a cult classic... Mandela effect though? That's Andrew just saying words and going yes.
PS idiocracy turned out to be a documentary
Idiocracy is an incredible documentary, what do you mean
You probably thought this was funny
@@ZaidenKobe no, just factual
@dirtmcgirt757 I laughed. But what is funnier, is how you're likely part of what makes it a documentary and don't even know it.
@@ZaidenKobe not as funny as you being bitter about it ;)

Without a Paddle is another great Dax Shepard movie.
One of my go to movies. I've seen it probably 10 times and will another 10 or more. Dax is awesome.
Great movie. The scene when the dogs got high was hilarious
Oooo ya soooo good
"let's go to prison" is by far the best movie Dax has been in. Not to mention Will Arnetts character is just great as well.
Hahaha I forgot about that movie. Loved it when it came out. It was dumb funny, rubber ducky

Let's Go to Prison was directed by Bob Odenkirk aka Saul Goodman I liked it!

Maverick had nothing to do with chips reemergence on Netflix lol… chips was actually a very funny movie! His pod and his wife helped him reemerge
I'm listening and I'm thinking Office Space, Office Space and then.
Dax says Office Space
Idiocracy has really blown up in popularity these last few months especially, it’s finally getting the recognition it deserves. Likely because people now see the eerie similarities between it & our terrible woke & stupid culture nowadays.
No, it's just the kids found out about it. For all of us on Myspace, we've been using Idiocracy and the memes from it for a decade and a half.
when did you first see the movie?
It's a TERRIBLE movie. People need to stop pretending it wasn't just because something things in it are starting to become true
My brother in Christ the “woke” people aren’t the ones who are looking the part right now. th-cam.com/video/oQZh4atWpLg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=nbANm_YMdfOAwRh5
System was different until around 2010…. You could have a bomb at the theatre that made its money back and more through VHS and DVD…. My dvd player and collection of dvds and vhs is in an attic now and unless the internet goes away will likely never be played again.
Idiocracy has always been one of my favorite comedies.
Chips is a perfect at home movie not a great theatre movie
Man, dude got swole. He's doing better in his early 50s than in his 20s. Gen X is aging backward everywhere I look. Meanwhile, Gen Z looks like 65-year-old truck stop blowies.

TRT, not magic. All those swole old guys that get winded to walk up a flight of stairs.
He's openly talked about TRT and wouldn't be surprised as a former addict he was upping the dose a little bit.

I'd never heard of Idiocracy when Netflix pushed it in my recommended feed something like 10 years ago. I absolutely love it, and have watched it so many times, and have recommended it to so many people. I'd always wondered how it was so off my radar when it came out, and now I know. Great interview!
Idiocracy is fucking BRILLIANT, as well as being staggeringly prophetic. On Par with Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein, . some of the few movie DVDs that I own. Ironically, they mention Shawshank Redemption as a movie that didn't do well when released. That was also true of the Christmas classic, "It's a Wonderful Life" and, to a lesser extent" Casa Blanca". And, "Chps", .. despite once owning a Kawasaki Police bike, (that was GREAT), I loathe the TV show but loved the movie.
I thought Hit & Run was a great movie
Does anyone else remember the name of the movie where Dave Chapelle played the super villain Black billionaire who gave out free cell phones to the world with a plan to send a signal for people to commit mass murder on each other? I cannot find it anywhere online. Back in 1995 before I joined the Army, I watched a lot of movies on DVD. Two of the movies that stood out and disturbed me were: 1) Idiocracy, we're are currently living that warped reality, 2) the second movie stared Dave Chappell as a black billionaire who gave out free cell phones to the entire world (a.k.a., America). The plot was to get a phone in everyone's hand and set off a signal for people to commit mass murder on each other while they hid the rich political elite from all over the world in a secure bunker in the Swiss Alpes somewhere. I became suspicious of cells phones since then and put blockers on all electronics and myself. So far the Simpsons and Idiocracy have been prophetic 😬
An all-time great comedy no one has seen is "Hamlet 2". Steve Coogan is in his quintessential role, and it is hilarious from start to finish. If you can find it, definitely watch it.
Idiocracy, they live and demolition man are 3 great movies that are becoming documentaries that are getting closer to reality.
JUST PUT ON THE DAMN GLASSES!!!
If someone says “what’s your boggle” to me ima die
The leg crossing collision was bound to happen lol Dax is so dope been watching his movies for years
😂🦵🏼
Idiocracy is a cult classic

Go President Comancho.
Without A Paddle is a great film! "I'm not a boyscout, but I ate a brownie once."
Idiocracy may have bombed at the box office, but it sure is considered a bit prophetic these days.
Idiocracy was an immediate hit on DVD just like Shawshank was on VHS. Movie theaters won’t die they’ll just become more boutique.
Idiocracy is not a movie. It is a prophecy.
Add demolition man to complete the prophecy.
I fucking love Idiocracy.
Maverick is just Star Wars Return of the Jedi. 🤷🏻♂️
No, it is the first Star Wars
No, it is the first Star Wars
Without a paddle was hilarious
Chips bombed because it was a movie targeting the folks that watched the show and it was made for newer audiences. The same thing happened to Starsky & Hutch and Dukes of Hazard. You can’t count on the old audience and shit on the show at the same time. It is the same mentality that is killing money making franchises left and right. Pick an audience and cater to them, but don’t expect old fans to like it when you change the lore. Calling them racist or sexist won’t magically make them pay to see your “reimagining” of their show. Obviously Dax didn’t call folks out for not liking his movie but he did change a large portion of the lore/vibe of CHIPS.
Go away Im batin’- favorite line
Braveheart bombed. They pulled it outta the theater and rerealesed it, and it did better. Shawshank, yes bombed. Two movies in my top 10 movies.
Office Space didn't interest me when I was a young man. Then after working in cubicles for many years the movie took on new meaning and I love it.
Top 3 Dax movies in order - #1 Idiocracy #2 Let's Go To Prison #3 Chips
Dax seems like a real cool dude. It sucks his best line is in a Dane Cook movie. 😂😂😂
"This is an 81' Honda. How dare you."
How has Dax not been picked up for some sarcastic super hero in marvel or DC? He's hilarious. James Gun could make him the next star lord.
I just watched idiocracy free on youtube
Wild. I saw Fight Club in the theater multiple times. Amongst my friends it was a masterpiece. We were all devoted Fincher-files after Se7en. I am shocked that it didn't even make it's budget back. Everyone I know bought the DVD and Bluray.
Idiocracy is the greatest comedy with a realistic view of our dystopian future.
True romance is another great movie that didn't get a big debut. True romance is a hidden gem that many people have heard of.
2006: It was a movie.
2016: It was a prophecy.
2026: It is a DOCUMENTARY. ☹️
For me, the Dune movies and Maverick were the best blockbuster movies I’ve seen in quite a while.
I don't understand the hype for Top Gun Maverick
It was just area88 plus the death star run
None of the trainees did anything, none of them died. The movie would be five minutes if you cut all the filler out. The go to cruise, cruise does the thing, the end.
I remember Dax’s “Hit and Run” fondly. Bradley Cooper’s character somehow getting taken advantage of despite only serving 8 months in jail. Can’t remember what kinda dude it was though. lol
Idiocracy came out at the wrong place at the wrong time, if it came out in the mid 2010s to now it would have blown up
Hit and Run was a fun movie. Bradley Cooper was crazy in it.
Most people don't realize that Top Gun was only an OK movie. The few flight scenes were great but the romance story was half believable and the dialog was cheesy and bad.
I haven’t seen a movie with Dax in it that isn’t a legendary movie to me.
I saw “Chips” in theaters and enjoyed it. The stunt work in it is 🔥🔥🔥🔥
@@dthill96 I also did. Also enjoyed Without a Paddle. People think a movie has to be some timeless classic to enjoy. For what it was it was good money spent.
Idiocracy didn't fail, it has always been extremely popular. It's just being marketed to you as a failure.
Idiocracy needs re-watching every 4 years
They cut the discussion about the "Mandela effect" interesting
I don't remember there being one.
@@JohannesWOW you can tell they cut it right when he mentions what he's talking about.
The hot cheeto movie made good money so maybe people do like chips
CHIPS, Baywatch and other nostalgia movies just feel like IP cash grabs so I just avoid them.
0:07 Sincerity works that way.
I disagree... Maverik is not better than the first Top Gun. The opening scene of Maverik is a man surviving an ejection from mach 10. Maverik is Fast and Furious level.
Hit the nail on the head. More and more I go back and pick a favorite actor and rewatch all the movies that I can find they are in.
The thing that will kill movie theaters is the insane prices
The role dak Shepard was born to play
Hit & Run.... I really enjoyed that movie.
Idiocracy is great. Seen it when it came out on dvd n we all said this is real life lol My bud n I went to his brothers n we walked in with them all watching Idiocracy. We were both like wtf is this?!?! They said hold on, we will restart it lol So we smoked n laughed our asses off.
"Idiocracy" was great when it came out..... NOW, I find it straight-up prophetic :D:D aged into a masterpiece, basically :D
CHIPS was a decent movie but it had some amazing motorcycle riding and stunts in it.
I liked CHIPS as a movie but not as a “CHIPS” movie. I hate when writers/directors take old IP and totally change the vibe of the show for a movie. For example the “Dukes” should never have been made as it was so disrespectful of the original series.
From the beginning I thought Chips was a great comedy movie....you and Pena nailed it
Shawshank was in theaters at the same time with pulp fiction, Forrest gump, and jurassic park.. to be fair
Idiocracy is so underrated. The older i get the closer to home it gets. 100 yrs from now it’ll probably be thought to b a documentary
Ironic a reboot sequel was gonna save Hollywood even though those same fans said no more reboots, remakes or sequels and make something original.
Sporting the almost Vintage John Varvatos Converses. Nice. Shame Nike turned them into crap.
Dax is jacked. I gotta hit the gym.
i didnt realize how many amazing movies did so bad at the box office. no wonder so many shitty movies keep getting made they obviously cant use the box office numbers as a gauge of how good it is
Chips was actually a great movie but idiocracy was great.
Shawshank bombed because it came out the same month as Pulp fiction, Lion King, Jurassic Park, and Forest gump.
I really liked Let's Go to Prison and Idiocracy. Was wondering what happened with Dax Shepard. I had no idea he was tattooed up, fighting, podcasting, spit image of a Joe Rogen route. It's like he's mocking him
Chips is a super fun movie imo. And Hit and Run is an awesome movie imo! Both are up there in my rewatchable for fun category.
I thought Chips was a funny movie. I've liked almost every movie Dax has been in. 'Let's go to prison' was funny AF!
CHIPS was HILARIOUS!!!
Chips needs to be viewed for what it is. It’s a comedy, spoofing the TV show. I knew it wasn’t going to be anything other than funny. Try watching the TV show now! It’s horrible. But it was fond memories from childhood. The movie is stupid funny! Laughed my a$$ off.
We love idiocracy! Such a great documentary!!!!
Idiocracy did not fail....it's a fucking classic and still hilarious to this day...and gets better as it gets older
I instantly thought Fight Club, obviously. So I was surprised it took so long to get mentioned. Office Space was my second.😂
3:36 Andrew got roasted
Idiocracy was a trip. I only saw it recently after hearing it mentioned for years. Found out one of my late film buddies was an extra in the court room scene when I finally saw it. That's how sidelined the film had been.
Employee of the Month, love that Movie !!!!!!! he was great there
Idiocracy always makes me laugh. Ive seen it so many times and I never get tired of it.
Idiocracy unironically is one of the most prophetic movies to ever exist.
I saw the first screening of Fight Club at a matinee at a theater in Berkeley, CA and there were probably five of us in attendance. The next week I brought my friends for a 5pm screening and it was sold out until the 11pm show. What a great word of mouth film, and well deserved at the time. The marketing was brilliant....'what is Fight Club' - it didn't pander to the audience, it held back, something we'll probably never see again for theatrical releases.
And the CHiPs adaptation is brilliant, I assign it to my screenwriting students often.
I’m old af but I saw idiocracy at a military base in Okinawa on a random Saturday before going out and getting blackout drunk
"Id like to kindly volunteer to put this old bird out of her misery" 😂...the old bird is Schultz
The crazy thing is that Idiocracy didn't bomb, it was bombed by the studio.
I saw Idiocracy in the theater.....my cousin was an extra in it. He's in the audience laughing at the film ASS! 😅
