Nice review. Before you go and try mud and digging your rear wheel into the sand/mud. This may damage the belt when mud/sand gets stuck in the tooth of the rear gear wheel. I have tried and learned. But for all other stuff (and I tried that too!) it's the most fun I can have on a bike.
These are amazing I’ve been obsessed for like 3 years and now I’m finally plan on getting one! Well in like 5 months Wow lol that helmet really is made for that bike 😅
Thank you! I am indeed planning a second part about my first year experiences. Also I am currently trying out to ride the bike with just one battery. As far as I can say it wheelies even easier ;).
Hallo!
I think they are pretty save. In the beginning Zero recommended to keep the batteries loading when not in use. Meanwhile they revised the recommendation and said that the level should be around 70% and not lower than 40% if the bike is not used for a longer period. Have the Zero now 6 years and no problems with the batteries so far.
@@madogblue Ah, ok. Well, that's a question I never asked myself. The holding brackets are pretty rigid and sitting tight and I could imagine that it might be easier to break the lock. After all it is as always: there is no lock that can't be opened.
I wanted to ask you actually. Since the FX from 2016 does not have the new IPM motor, do you feel like the motor is overheating (and reducing power) easily on the autobahn at around 100km/h?
You are the example of what the success of an individual looks like, German discipline and hard work, clean, accurate and neat attitude towards details mixed with decent personality, displaying class and luxury of accomplished gentleman, it would be great to work with you on interesting projects

yes, quite hard to hide the german accent ;) The range within our small town with speeds between 40 and 70 km/h is around 100km. At the moment I am testing it out. What I can see untill now is 1% battery life/ 1km. I won´t take it hard off road. With the belt drive the off road capabilities are limited but there is a chain kit available. Why the FX?: I wanted a light bike that I can take through the woods and where I can pass curbs without fearing for the rims. We live here in a rural area. With 1.88m I am quite tall and on the FXS I looked somehow funny. The height of the FX is just perfect for me. In the end the first bike I rode in my life was a kids enduro of a friend and it was for me as a 6y old boy an unforgettable experience. However my father refused to buy me a cross bike during my childhood and so I am now fulfilling my wish. And the FX is easier to wheelie the the FXS :)))

excellent overview....thanks so much! I am very interested in getting a ZERO motorcycle....i was glad to see that you can remove the batteries, and , I believe you said that you could charge the batteries, off the bike??....this would be perfect, and necessary for me, as i live in a building that does not have access to an outlet in the parking garage.....PLease, do you know if the other ZERO models, the 'S', have this same functionality....ie., removing the battery, and charging it off the bike???....any info. would be greatly appreciated!! cheers, Peter, from Toronto, Canada.
Hi Peter, as far as I know only the Zero FX and FXS have exchangable battery modules. Up to model year 2017 you could get it with one or 2 modules (each 3.6 kwh). For 2018 they offer now a fully built in, non removable 7.2 kWh bat or optional the old 3.6 removable module with an optional second module. But I can´t tell if you can fit both modules at the same time as with mine. If it would be only one module then I would rather take a used Zero from former years if you are depending on removable modules. regards Alex
Thanks very much for the reply and info Alex. Im still researching, and, I really like this concept. Unfortunately, I'm finding very little support from ZERO here in Canada...I'm hoping that this will change, in time.....thx again Alex!
do they include the other charger that you can use inside the house for the battery? and also when you ride with just 1 battery do you ride with the hole open like that from where the battery goes or is there a cover?
Hey.No the fast charger is not included. When you ride with one battery there will be a hole. Honestly I tried to ride with one but you loose significantly power while torque stays the same.
This should not be a problem. My dealer is 500mls away. I bought it from him shipping to me included. If you don´t run into a warranty issue there is not much to service on this bike. Brake fluid every 2 years and checking the belt tension from time to time. This can be done in any bike shop.
Yes I have it and I still love it. Except the power consumption, till now I had no operating costs. Went around 900km untill today. Likes: awesome acceleration, quiet, no vibrations, nearly no braking in the city, people starring at you. dislikes: none ;). When I find some time, I will do a second part of my review with my experiences and maybe a Zero FX vs. Japanese Superbike (I have to find someone to do the duell). I am sure I will be in front for the first 30m- 50m. ;) Happy Easter!
Hi. Did not test it out to the end but would assume around 100km in the city. At higher speeds over 80-100km/h it will be definitely less. Wind resistance kills range.
They same laws apply as for "normal" motorcycles. Here in Germany we have different licenses depending on age and power of the bike. But for a Zero with full power you would definitely need the highest motorcycle licence here available and you need to be 18y. Best ask your local authorities. Have fun!!
Untill now no problems at all. Charge, Turn on, Drive, Repeat :). As I use the breaking power of the engine in the city as much as possible the breaks will probably last forever. At the moment I don´t ride it as we have tons of salt in the street.
The "noise" is decent on lower speeds. At higher speeds the wind noise is so loud that you can hardly hear the engine. In my opinion the ride is definitely more comfortable speaking of noise and vibration than any combustion engine bike i know. I didn´t even know that BMW offers an ebike :)) I just had a look on it and no... I wanted a bike that I can use offroad and not a scooter (I had a Gilera runner). BTW I don´t like the look of BMW bikes, they look too german ;).
@@jacoblee9996 unfortunately from Europe I can not enter cycletrader. 340mls shows that the bike was hardly driven. For 2017 models the engine as well as the battery were refined but the battery is fully integrated and not switchable anymore. You can update the firmware via smartphone (I have to visit my dealer 50 miles away for every update, that's annoying). You have one big instead of 2 smaller batteries. As I see the 2020 models again have the option for 2 battery modules. Anyway 8000 is a decent price for that low mileage. Ask the owner if he still has the belt drive as it is much quieter and convenient for everyday city commuting. If you are planning to take the Zero into hard off road then you better stay with the chain as the belt will wear fast when forcing it through sand and mud.
It might be a bit small. I am 188cm and my wife keeps telling me I look like a teenager on this bike. On the other hand the seating position is for my size very comfortable. The bike is pretty high but still has a sleek shape (like a Mokick; this makes the teenager look) The best would be to find a dealer and to try.
