    You know, your channel reminds me of Project Farm. You're like the welder version of Project Farm, since you test pretty much everything! If it's not already copyrighted, you too should start saying something along the lines of "we're gonna test that!" 😁

    I paid $79 CDN for my Zojan 250. It’s real output is @ 130 amps DC. I’ve used it a few times but it’s really just a wall ornament in my shop. I did replace the power cord with a chassis grounded wire.

      @bigtb1717  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In the last third of the video or so I do talk about how different rods run. 6010 doesn't work with this machine, but that's no surprise because it doesn't run well on a lot of inverter machines. Other than that it was really just a matter of the welder not liking even a moderate length arc. If you keep a tight arc it will run 3/32" 7018, 6013 and 7014 without much trouble. 6011 is a bit tougher to keep going.

    Could you get by with a 20 amp 220v plug instead of the 50amp. Reason is that the welder power cord wire guage and insulation will not handel 50amps anyways. Look at the size wire on an electric stove 50amp breaker. It's much larger to carry 50 amps. Thanks

    • @bigtb1717
      @bigtb1717  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used that plug because that is the receptacle I have in my garage. If you have a different 240V receptacle, I’m sure it would work.

    • @bigtb1717
      @bigtb1717  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This welder and the Juba ZX7-200 do surprisingly well for the price, as long as you understand that you will have to get cables, clamp, electrode holder and a 240V plug for the cord. And as long as you understand that you may not have much in the way of a warranty if you ever have issues. Otherwise, sure, it's a super small, light, and relatively inexpensive way to get started.

    • @bigtb1717
      @bigtb1717  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It can not be used for MIG welding. Welding on motorcycle frames in general should be approached very cautiously. There is too much chance for disaster if something breaks.

    Or is it just a waste of money
    Is it effective and long lasting

    • @bigtb1717
      @bigtb1717  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can't say one way or another about long lasting. I haven't actually used it since the video. It's really not the best value. It doesn't come with any welding leads or even a cord end for the power cord. By the time you add those you probably could have purchased a much more capable machine.

  • @Precivilization
    @Precivilization 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks man, I was looking for a small stick welder to do some work with around the outside of the house, I am looking at the Fronius Transpocket 180, seems like a very nice machine and can do 6010 like a champ but it cost north of $1200, its small in size but not as small as this chicom welder.

    • @bigtb1717
      @bigtb1717  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly, the ESAB 161 LTS would be great for what you are looking for. Does 6010, small and light (smaller and lighter than the Transpocket 180). It has less output than the TP 180, but it is also dual voltage, which is very nice for a portable, around the house, odd-job welder. I picked mine up for around $485 locally. Definitely worth a look if you are in the market.

    • @bigtb1717
      @bigtb1717  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Obviously though, not nearly as small as this welder. But at a max of 130A output, and 240V input only, it is quite a bit more limited. Also, this machine simply doesn't weld as smooth as the 161 LTS, or even other Chinese welders (or, I'm sure, the Fronius).

    • @Precivilization
      @Precivilization 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks again. I am not in the US, and ESAB 161 LTS is available only in the US, however, if I am to consider the ESAB (which I did) at one third of the price, I have the ESAB Buddy Arc 200 (I suppose it's the same machine with a different name?) available here at around $500, which is not a bad deal for a 200 amp machine?

    • @bigtb1717
      @bigtb1717  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I had a feeling you weren't in the US since the Fronius stuff is rare around here. I know ESAB is available other places, but didn't know specifically which models.
      240V may be the standard where you are, so the dual voltage option probably isn't as big of a deal.

    • @Precivilization
      @Precivilization 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      True, however, it'd be nice to have a portable welder that's 110v as well as 220v so I can take it with me when I get back to the US. Specially since my stationary main welder is 220v. I think the ESAB 200 is a better deal for me money wise as I'm finding it hard to justify the Fronius even though Fronius seems to be the Ferraris of welders, or so they claim.

  • @dakershaffer_blitz
    @dakershaffer_blitz 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why not try it in 110v & see what happens?

      Imagine what would happen if you changed the battery in your car from 12V to 6V? Car won't start!
      Dropping the voltage by half, will half the current if it will work properly at 110V at all.

    • @valveman12
      @valveman12 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @vial.of.photons
      Yes, some welders are dual voltage. This one is not. It is not designed for 110V. At 220V you would most likely only get about 120A-130A max. The Chinese lie all the time with regards to specs.

      Let me know if you actually receive it in working order. Seems too cheap to be true. Right now it's priced around $85-$100 everywhere I see it (ebay, alibaba, aliexpress, amazon, etc.). Can't imagine they could even ship it from China for $9, much less throw the shipping in free. But that's crazy cheap if legit.
