It’s not just a choking hazard. A lot of Pre-Workouts are designed around being mixed with water; water isn’t simply to make it go down, it’s a key ingredient for activation of some of the chemical components.

I've had a severe addiction to Caffeine since I was a kid (without it, I get bad migraines now). Over the past few months I've been enjoying a caffeine-heavy pre-workout and I have been dry-scooping under the assumption it would be absorbed into my body faster that way (only a single scoop daily, nothing insane) but now that I've seen this video I guess I have no reason to do that anymore.
Thank you, Doctor. Your videos will certainly have saved countless people in the internet's lives, if not at the very least significant unnecessary discomfort.

Caffeine is one of those things you can go cold turkey and withdrawals are minimal. I used to love preworkout, pretty much taking 350 mg of caffeine a day. Now I get enough from 1 cup of green tea.

@@RLee-oz6gl You can quit cold turkey if your intake is at a more or less "sane" level, sure.
But if you're, like me not too long ago, at a point where you consume over a gram of caffeine a day, quitting abruptly will incapacitate you for a week with depression, fatigue, and migraines that don't respond to painkillers (well, aside from opiates, but I don't think pooping oxies to cut down on caffeine is a good idea lol)
Taper. Reduce your intake gradually. That way you won't even have to go through withdrawals.

    • @TheDragonAzz
      @TheDragonAzz ปีที่แล้ว +15

Cold turkey is not alwas an option, unless you have arrangements to be hospitalized. When you made it up to an insane tolerance, cutting even in half can left me debilitated.
Tapering helps. Still feel like crap with headache, brain fog/fatigue, and even slight insomnia.
I was +/- 1200 mg for a while. Scoop or so of Pre, coffee from freeze dried(basically instant) so I could make it strong, up to two rockstar or whatever brand is 300mg and an occasional XL fountain mt dew.

    • @ProfShibe

You’ve also been wasting it by dry scooping it as half the ingredients need to be dissolved in water to actually work, plus it absorbs quicker in water 😂😂

I use to care for a child in hospice with extreme health issues. She’d been disabled by a major medical malpractice at a few days old and her body systems began shutting down, 1 by 1, starting in her teens.
By the time I joined her care team, her no would occasionally hit 300/190. It was TERRIFYING when it happened when I was alone with her (I was the only non-RN on her care team as I grew up with her and was used to her unique issues). It happened 3 times while I was with her. Once her mom was home, twice I had to call the head nurse. The drug they used to drop her bp was usually only given in the ICU and usually by an MD as the drug itself was dangerous. But this child was too fragile to move to a hospital, so they did it at home.
The shit that you do when your kid has extreme medical issues is mind boggling. No one asks if you have medical training and at most you’re offered a tiny bit of training before a kid is discharged with new major care requirements.

This actually happened to me. My friend decided to mix my preworkout for me and decided to double my scoops (I usually take two), but he used a spoon from a previous bottle. That spoon was twice the size of the actual scoop, so instead of 4 servings I got 8.
I was violently sick, dry heaving, shaking uncontrollably, my heart rate was through the roof. I went to the emergency room, and the only thing they did for me was tell me to drink water and kicked me out. Typical military healthcare. After 12 hours and chugging 2 liters of water, it finally wore off. I feel like that’s the closest I’ve ever been to dying.

@@clinical_caliber No. Cocaine is cardiotoxic due to it interacting with sodium channels. Its mechanism is the same as methylphenidate. Pure cocaine isn't "safer" than Ritalin, or amphetamines like Adderall. In small doses and in terms of cardiac safety, Ritalin, Adderall and even methamphetamine is safer than cocaine. Amphetamines act as dopamine releasing agents, slightly different that methylphenidate and cocaine, but achieve a similar effect.
Cocaine is a dirty drug, it acts upon numerous other sites that are unrelated to its main "desired" action as a dopamine reuptake inhibitor. It can cause cardiac hypertrophy and heart damage after a single use.

I once overdosed on caffeine, I took two scoops of what I thought was pre-workout, but my friend had actually put raw, pure caffeine into the tub, I had 5000mg (50 fucking cups of coffee worth) of caffeine in one go. After about 20 minutes I started to feel very dissociated, (I ended up hitting a PR in the gym tho which I was happy about!) and I slowly felt like I was getting lighter and lighter, and I slowly lost the feeling of my entire body, but not even in a nice calming way, oh no no, in a heart attack inducing, crippling anxiety kind of way, that shook through me like the gust of a thousand winds. After about 45 minutes, I knew something was very wrong. I had unimaginable stomach aches and chest aches, my nose was bleeding heavily, I was sweating bullets, I couldn't see or stand up right, I couldn't talk right, I had the sharpest headache I’ve ever had, I was in big trouble. I went down to get changed as quick as I could but this is where everything kind of went black for about an hour. Not fully sure how I even got home to be honest. Once I got back home, about an hour and a half had passed since I took it. Words cannot begin to describe what was happening to me, I really should've gone to the hospital. From about 3 in the afternoon until about 2 in the morning (this is not an exaggeration by the way) I was getting sick every 1-2 minutes or so. I spent about 11 hours huddled over a toilet, vomiting black, like just black, like I mean my vomit was just pure black and nothing else, it almost looked like ink, I don't know what it could've been, in hindsight actually it was probably blood. Most of the time I couldn't breathe because I was gagging and vomiting so much. It was absolute agony. I didn't sleep at all that night and spent the night sweating buckets and buckets, even with my window open in the middle of winter. I couldn't breathe properly the next day, from all the spasming of the diaphragm, I couldn't talk, taste or smell, from all the acid coming into my mouth and nose. I had lost about 3kg (6.75lbs) that night if I remember correctly, just from sweating and from my body trying to keep me alive. After watching this video, I think I got very very very very lucky!

Like honestly, after watching this video, I think I'm quite lucky to be alive. I mean, it doesn't have to be completely debilitating. I knew a girl in college... This was before I knew her, but in high school, she'd nearly died after a random aneurysm burst in her brain and she had a stroke, had a near death experience and everything. She had to go through physical therapy and stuff, and came out pretty fine, but it still couldn't be called a "full" recovery because she lost her left field of vision. Which isn't great: she'll never be able to drive a car, things like that... But she's still all there mentally, and doesn't have any problems walking or anything like that. So, she's disabled, but in such a way that she's still has great quality of life.

Interesting to see Kratom pop up in here. I've been taking Mitragyna for three years now to help relieve my pain from Scoliosis and arthritis. Its been life saving for me. I haven't had any serious issues with taking it daily for such a long period of time, and it's easier on my body than percocet or vicodin which gave me kidney infections, headaches and mood swings. I also don't grow a tolerance to it nearly as fast as I had opioids. However, mixing Kratom with prescription drugs can be very dangerous. The plant is extremely potent and should absolutely be treated as carefully as any pill. People think just because it's some leaf you can mix it with anything or take however much of it you want. That's definitely not the case and I hope people don't continue to use it so recklessly since it's easily accessible at any smoke shop or gas station.
