    When run into these, I'll also install a ball valve in the basement, as these should really be shut off for the Winter.

    I replaced them with a regular washers (hard ones) it worked, maybe because of straight city water and no pressure regulator

    • @stevenlavimoniere
      @stevenlavimoniere  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      the soft washers seal better . hard washer will stop some of the leak but not all in my opinion

    Home Depot wants you to but the entire flipping thing for 40 bucks...that's why I like the local plumbing stores

    Winterizing, turn faucet off in basement, remove hose, open outside faucet and keep open?

    • @jblyon2
      @jblyon2 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tedlahm5740 It helps make sure that there's no vacuum in the pipe preventing it from draining water after you remove the hose. It's basically an air vent on the top of the pipe. When you turn on the faucet the water pressure pushes the vacuum breaker up and the gasket seals the vent keeping it from leaking water. If you leave the hose attached and the water stuck inside freezes it expands and pushes the vacuum breaker too far deforming the gasket.

    I hate those vacuum breakers. They always seem to leak after a year or so, regardless of freezing. Cheap little plastic parts that have to be perfectly aligned and clean to stop water flow - junk!

    Somehow, I've actually managed to make it through life this long with no vacuum breakers on my sill faucets. The old style is just way more reliable. Of course, it's my house and I'm not stupid with the hose.

      @@stevenlavimoniere I thank you sir for your wonderful videos. I'm about to head over to my mother-in-law's and install a new shut off and outside faucet. If I screw up, I got a Sharkbite end cap to hold the fort until a real plumber comes over.
