🙋♀️Sensei Enoeda...RIP MAESTRO‼️He was my first instructor in London and the most important think I learnt from him was that he taught us karate as REAL " ART " to respect and use only to defend oneself and never harm...I think that was his "philosophy" 👍🙏🙏🙏💐
Mas oyama set up some challenge matches with muay thai, not sure when it was, maybe 1960s or 70s? Jka instructors course used to encourage members to go to Tokyo docks and pick fights. But your observation is acute, karate missed a trick by not engaging in all-comers full contact events.
I have heard several stories about Sensei Enoeda having to defend himself outside the dojo, against streetfighters. I was told that he strongly disliked those stories being repeated. However, I will tell one here. Sensei Enoeda was in Spain with the KUGB team, for an international Karate championship. One evening he decided to go out for a drink on his own, and walked into a local tavern. Unknown to him, it wa s the hangout of all the local gangsters. He sat down at a table with his drink, and a large group of criminals staring taunting him, and shouting insults. They then decided to physically throw him out of their tavern. They came at him with knives, bottles and broken glasses. He took on the whole room of criminals. A few minutes later he was surrounded by unconscious bodies all over the floor of the tavern. He then sat back down at his table and finished his drink, before walking out.

I wonder if any of those greats from the old times ever fought a single boxer, kickboxer or street fighter or challenge match outside of their rules.
boxers or kickboxers would certainly not fare well

писец полный. ката делает не дышит. мая гери дзедан пальцы не заворачивает, в спаринге расстояния километр...
