Brad and Deb. Doing the Lord’s work bringing the “seniors” into you loving care. I been there done that do that too and the blessings go both ways. God Bless You from Louisiana PS - here in Louisiana if you said you didn’t do a good job as an operator someone would look at you and say “whatchoo talkin bout Willis?” And everyone would laugh. That basically means “don’t get down on yourself cuz you did a real fine job!”
That is the best video ever in TH-cam as far as breaking down everything. I really appreciate you doing all the maps and telling us what it would cost because that definitely help someone like me who is thinking about doing the driveway for my farm myself. Thank you.
I'm a decent operator and I always get gravel to where I should leave it alone but I try to do one more thing and end up with a rut or a low spot that takes me another 1/2 hour...lol
2024 we're looking at 1,000 ft long driveway. 10 ft across and 4 inch deep. It'll roughly be 94 tons of rock but we decided to do a combo of concrete washout and crushed concrete. Washout is around $30/yard and crushed concrete is just a few dollars more but washout requires a bulldozer to spread it. The dozer is $500 for the 4 hour minimum.
Absolutely love your channel, great content, great commentary.... i have subscribed.... this must watch content! I love driveway repairs and refreshes with box blades....
I've got a project I'm working on in TN . The driveway is roughly 3000 ft long . The rock will come in around 12k for about 260 to 280 tons delivered and tailgated . The excavation work for the driveway will be around 9 k to 10 k . That excavation work is for about 2k of driveway the other 1k of driveway was an old logging road which was rehabbed with Crush and Run ( 60 tons ) .
I'm no pro with grading either... I mostly do it with a bucket on my tractor, and use my grapple teeth if I want to chew up some potholes or ruts. I think it looks like you did a great job! I find the more times I go over something (and with the longest passes possible) the smoother job I do.... I would never expect someone to go over the rock once and have it perfect!! Great series of videos. Congrats on the nice driveway! Enjoy it!
If you raise the front of the grader box then you can grad from inside the box and you can see what is happening. What you did looks very nice. I was just sugjesting what I have done for many decades.
I`ve only got 80 hours on mine and I bought it new in 2015. Should have sold it when I sold our other property, but I like the convenience the few times I do use it. They`re handy to have around.@@PineyGroveHomestead
Thank you. I was a little stressed working with limestone gravel for the first time, but it came out great and has been several big rains without issue!
When your #57s get integrated with the dense grad (road base) a good topper for ease of maintenance is #11s (chips) there called #11s in Indiana. #57s roll alot, like a whole lot. Hard to keep them in your driveway for long periods of time, great base but I perfer a topper on my driveway. Good luck and good job
Thanks....maybe because it's limestone and not granite, but this driveway has locked in like concrete. We've had some toad soaking rains here in Florida and not a single rock has moved. Amazed the heck out of us!!
Hey just bought a small parcel of land in Oklahoma and am starting a gravel driveway in April. Your video is helpful and definitely taught me a few things so thank you. Ps throughout the video your leveling skills improved from where you started to where you stopped.
That was the second video on that gravel spread, here's the first: th-cam.com/video/4DKx6sLC_nM/w-d-xo.html It was 40T of road base and 40T of gravel.....2 dual axle dump truck loads of each. I think we talked about coverage in this video: th-cam.com/video/Sf0U9w5oVC0/w-d-xo.html

Cost isn't just there at Piney Grove! Each time we need dirt or millings etc. we get hit with your way out west! We're about 20-25 minutes from the city of PSL, We are in Florida as well. Just another way for them to make more money while they can. We hope prices come down in the near future. Your property is looking good.
@@PineyGroveHomestead oh okay. I moved to Montana from Cali and new to the snow. I have a long gravel driveway, been looking for ways to plow the snow or snow blow it without picking up the gravel. So far the plower on my zero turn just scooped the gravel up. Still searching lol.
@@JoJo-oo7zt let the snow pack on the first storm that stays and don't plow at the end of the season if it gets to warm and the ground thaws. Set your plow a little high. Also you can back drag with a plow truck to avoid digging. You do know it snows in California depending on where you live😁
I'm sorry, but this goes against every road standard out there. Your top coat should contain 15-18% fines, which is how you get your compaction. That clean gravel is a nightmare. Won't compact, moves every time you drive on it, and develops potholes. Always design either slope or crown into your roads, water is the biggest killer on roads. The right equipment makes all the difference in price. We just did 1500 feet of driveway lift for $6,800. But the grader is our bread and butter, crowning and sloping in just a few passes. You have the ability with your box blade to crown and slope, it just takes more time.
It's almost a year old with lots of driving and torrential Florida rains. Pretty much the same as when I graded it in that video. You can see it in the background of this video: th-cam.com/video/UCip7Zy11ig/w-d-xo.html
Nice job sir, I think it came out as good if not better than a contractor would have done. I'm purchasing raw land in northern Idaho soon and I need to install a 1000' driveway on it and I'm doing it myself as I'm a decent operator on excavators and track loaders. I figured my cost at abut 10k for the job not including the cost for the excavator of course
