    Hey! Quick, stupid question. I am leaving in a few days, with a Hero 9. How do you keep it charged throughout the trek?

    • @jackstevens9602
      @jackstevens9602  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you can get one before you leave, bring a portable charger/power bank. When I went I had 5 GoPro batteries that lasted about 6 days total, but after that I needed to charge them, so I brought a 26800 mAh power bank by either Anker or some other company. They are heavy but it's 100% necessary unless you have 10+ gopro batteries. Some folks use solar powered battery packs, I think it's a bit of a gimmick but maybe by now they have gotten reliable. The bigger the better for battery capacity tho.

      @@jackstevens9602 thank you! I have a relatively small charger, but I can recharge it at our stops and rooms along the way. I’m leaving tomorrow! 👍

    I'm planning on going this summer with the OA, any tips for preparing?

    • @kirchoffkyle
      @kirchoffkyle 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      And if I go, I want to make a video on the experience to look back at, and good suggestions on what cameras to bring

    • @jackstevens9602
      @jackstevens9602  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi kyle, I recommend going on shakedown hikes with your group (or just personal hikes) to practice using portable stoves if you lack experience there. This will also break in your boots if they are new. Other than that just follow packing lists and you should be ok. As far as cameras, a GoPro is what you want. A new one is "inexpensive" for what it can do. It's 4k or 5k video at 60fps, buttery smooth, rugged, long battery life, small batteries, and you can make it work if you know what you are doing. A DSLR might seem better (image quality) but it can be more of a hastle as well.

      @@jackstevens9602 I just signed up with the OA, waiting to hear about what comes next. I currently have a few cheap go pros, but what I'm wondering is how did you charge them, what solar panels did you bring and battery packs did you use?

    • @jackstevens9602
      @jackstevens9602  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kirchoffkyle I did not use a solar charger. I had 4 maybe 5 batteries and then a massive 28,000 mAh portable charger. This was total sufficient.

    Sweet video! I carried a GoPro on my trek too, how were you able to fit a camera in your pack!?

    • @jackstevens9602
      @jackstevens9602  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I only brought the GoPro hero 6 with a stabilizer backcountry, the DSLR camera was only for the basecamp footage.

    Boys i’m nervous about Philmont, i’m still undeceive on going. Don’t get me wrong I love backpacking but going almost 2 weeks, just doesn’t seem very appealing to me.

    • @jackstevens9602
      @jackstevens9602  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      thank you, I used a GoPro hero 6 black for 99% of the footage (all backcountry footage) with the exception of 2-3 shots at base camp where I used a sony a99 mark ii.

      @@jackstevens9602 what did you use to put the video together and so the color grading?

    • @jackstevens9602
      @jackstevens9602  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bobber4160 I used fcpx (final cut pro X) and to color grade I first use a luma curve menu to fix exposure and stuff then I use a LUT (color base preset) to give it a stronger/moodier film look. That's why it doesn't look as classic GoPro like
