- The rights to this video don't belong to me, still I strongly feel that I want to spread the word. Even though Depeche Mode have never been presented with an award in their home country. at least Martin got recognition from the British Academy of Composers & Song Writers.
Martin and Depeche Mode have never gotten the credit they deserved. Can't help but love how humble he is.
They got the love from millions of fans around the world and a lot of credit from numerous artists (even Johnny Cash) who covered their songs or cited them as influence. Could there be any better credit? Who cares about dubious awards anyway?
And yes, Martin being so humble just makes him even more loveable.

Martin got 1 award in 1999 and Vince Clarke got his long-deserved award 10 years later. I'm just completely puzzled why the UK music press never understood DM??
Martin, our boy, the man with the wings, our personal Jesus, our youth, our synthesisers, our words, the secret garden of hundreds of songs... You just can not do anything about this man, but to respect him. Martin means Depeche. Tony, Greece.
They did get a Brit Award, for Enjoy the Silence. It was voted best single. But they certainly do not get the recognition, their music deserves.
In this country (Britain) you're not considered a 'true' songwriter unless you're the songwriter in a guitar band, because DM were primarily electronic they were never viewed as songwriters, not idea why it's like that but that's the way it is
lewis morrison Every decent band from the UK site Mode (especially Martins songs) as an influence. Small label from the start has probably damaged their “sale figures” here in England. In the states they are still huge, and have people who you think would be headliners supporting them. Bad UK press from the start still to this day has always been a major factor. Fans of Depeche get it. And so do so called bigger acts. Living legends. 100% 🕶🎶
Britain is still stuck with the Beatles formula 😆
Spice Girls have gotten the Outstanding Contrubution to Music Brit Award. Depeche have not. Now, that is absurd.
@@dukeofpearl I am Czech, so inevitably there are things that I cannot understand about the UK. But every time a DM picture is in a UK nagazine/paper, the caption mentions Basildon. If I didn't know any better I would think they have never left the town. I got this feeling that it sounds like they come from a shithole. They left Basildon 4 decades ago. Depeche are not appreciated in England but hey, they have been absolutely huge in Germany. And that is a bigger market l.

I have loved Depeche Mode since 1992. I have known their music since 1983 [was too young to appreciate individual bands]. I will love them forever. No band or music can touch my soul the way Depeche Mode does. Life sucks, but it would have sucked a million times worse without DM.
In this world of hype, spin, instant-fame, fake celebrities and the famous-for-being-famous, longevity is a good yard stick for real talent.

Namaste! I´ve met DM in 1984 and Martin inspired me to making music. And Daniel was also with them, in the hotel, before their show in Düsseldorf 13.12.1984.

i heard someone in the UK tell me that the UK press dont like it if bands they dont get or support,make it big in spite of no back up from them,so when bands like DM,Dead or Alive,and Adam Ant ( after 85 anyway ) kept a fanbase outside UK,and in some cases became in a way the biggest band in the world,like i feel DM is ( based on the fact that they play for the same size crowds as U2,but without the massive press backup ) then it pisses them off >

If im not mistaken,Mart has won two Ivor Novello awards,but im not completely sure. But he has won a few things,so not all bad even though the UK music press dont give him the credit they should.

Actually I met him 3 times. Twice in Santa Barbara and once in Düsseldorf after the last Tour of the Universe concert. He is so lovely, humble and open with a very strong presence, just as in the above video. The one time in SB when we were posing for a group foto, I might have put my arm a bit too tight around his hips and he sang one (song title) word to me. "Daaaangerooouuus"! I nearly died!

Hello ebb. I usually have good memory of DM. Long time ago Martin Gore won composer award. And all of everybody was robbie williams, Rod steward. It was on Depeche Mode website. I still remember the orig. Martin gore won towards those artists.

Alan was not a composer of DM songs apart from 2 or 3 ( The Landscape is Changing etc.). He said himself so, that composing was not his thing. Check out his old Recoil website.
I mean arrangements and orchestration..thats are composition..A composer is not only the words nd the basic music lines author, arrangement can change a song completly, as the production

Sorry, but No, songwriting and composing is very well defined and in the case of DM it is mainly Martin Gore. Full Stop!
