I have so much respect for the classical dancers.
Katha kahe so Kathak” means who is telling the stories of God and Goddess with the expressions and movements of hands and legs are called kathak dancers. Kathak is mainly originated from the life and story of Krishna. Devotees who tell story of Krishna with moves of dance and expressions are kathak dancers.
Kathak is originated from Krishna and Radha’s raasleela , that is why we call kathak as natwari nirtya too . This nirtya is basically performed at temples but when Mughal Darbaar started, it was performed in front of kings and named as Mughal kalin nirtya.
Kathak have 3 gharanas-
Jaipur gharana
Banaras gharana
Lakhnau gharaana
