I sobbed. She danced in the hospital. They were thrilled to go to a park. She called a simple park heaven. I’m so proud of them
seeing the cop cry got me. I am glad they are free but know that it's still a struggle.

Being able to go outside is such a small thing to most of us that haven’t experienced this type of sheltered abuse and to her, it’s something she will never forget. Just beautiful💙

It's very commonplace in case of trauma that the growth freezes in many ways. There are women with litlle girls voice out there, plenty, there is a reason for that.

You can tell they were extremely neglected by the way they talk. Talking is something that’s learned over the ages of 1-12, and it’s insane that they were so isolated that they struggle with it as adults today. I hope they all heal tremendously.

The parents literally left them alone for 4 years in texas. Only visiting weekly to drop off food.
The fact Jennifer was in public school and not a SINGLE gd person DID ANYTHING is disgusting. Those teachers failed her.
The fact that there is no records is suspicious, it wasn't that long ago that they wouldn't have had rows of filing cabinets.
Just like all my teachers failed me and nobody cares/cared. Try this for size, 3+ teachers making fun of you and the entire class starts busting out laughing at you. Also them intentionally ignoring you when you're raising your hand. I could go on and on. I learned that nobody actually cares, they just pretend they do. I can actually relate with her/them on alot of things. There's more than just them that it's happening to.

I had a high school friend, and her sister, who rode the bus with us. She had random bruises. One day she had a lot of them, she flinched away from contact and I’m pretty sure a teacher reported it because that was the last day they went to our school. They simply disappear without explanation.
This was back late 70s and I’m sure that wasn’t the first or last time because they came to our school mid semester a year prior. I doubt any good records were kept and I’m sorry I didn’t know why she would flinch if you suddenly went to touch or hug her.
“How can heaven be better than this?” “This is life” really makes you think about how much as simple as stepping outside and breathing fresh air, we take for granted. So happy for these beautiful brave women .

They speak pretty well and their teeth are in great condition to be abused and neglected for decades don't you think.
The oldest child-her eyes are so haunting. They broke every part inside of her. Her resilience is nothing short of miraculous.

It’s so disturbing to know any person can be be a parent, even murderers and rapists. So afraid of how many kids are still suffering and we can’t help.
One reason I can’t watch some stories. Once I start thinking about how many kids and people are suffering a terrible life right now makes me question life and God and I was taught not to. And I feel sick not being able to help them.
I was abused as a baby. Doctors gave me weeks to live. Seeing this hits hard and I'm so happy they got out. I hate those who hurt others and it makes me happy that she got help

One more wretched problem is thay many orphanages or shelters are also run by power crazed lunatics who do stuff like this or worse. This world is insane, and you see how people become cynical and jaded. The positive outlook on life you have as a kid is soured by each of these stories you slowly find out about, unless you were actually part of them yourself and didn’t ever had that to begin with…
Minutes after writing this I saw an article where allegedly 5 of them who were in a foster home were yet again abused. So yeah…how can a sick world help itself?
The "I'm sorry" when she asked for a break.....that hurt me. I was abused as a child. Not anywhere close to this but apologies when none is needed is a hard thing to stop after abuse.

Then the fake show of sympathy from the interviewer got me. If she wants a break why did that have to show all that… rating of course, rather than give her a real break
i've been abused too (i think?) and it doesn't matter whether you've drowned in one foot of water or twenty. you have trauma, don't disregard it.
I literally cried in that moment; and had to take a break myself. As an abuse survivor (only emotional from my parents but physical from others), that moment right there was an unintentional trigger for sure. She is so brave. I have so much admiration for them even doing this interview. 💜

I have to give credit to the oldest Jen, she obviously took the burden the most and even helped raise her siblings. She gave her sister strength to leave, knowing she couldn’t.

Watching these videos make me realize how blessed I am.
She was 29 when she was rescued, half of her life gone. But the positivity that shines through them is just unbelievable, i hope all the happiness in the world for them.
Most people in the US live way past 60. A lot of abused kids don't reach adulthood. Her life was not good but she did live it. It's no more or less gone than anyone else her age, and hopefully something useful can be wrung from her experiences. I hope she gets whatever help she needs to adjust to her new life and to deal with the trauma. If anything is going to prolong her life it's going to be getting the necessary support.

I meant exactly what I said: Through her efforts and perseverance of spirit, she earned freedom for herself and her siblings. Whether or not she should have had to do so is another matter entirely, and they all definitely deserved better than they were given by their parents. Their parents deserved punishment, which they earned through their actions.
And no matter what the semantics are, I think most of us want the siblings to have a good, happy future.

I've gone through things as a child I wish no child would ever go through..... I can't even slightly compare stories or horrors with these brave people. My sense of what was possible is now shattered. I'll remember watching this for the rest of my life.
when she mentions that not all siblings know what each one went through. this is a prime example of how siblings can have the same parents and yet have different experiences. this is paramount in an abusive household and in general all cases of abuse, regardless of social status and even industry.

Its a way of trying to rationalize it. To make it make sense. The truth of course is it doesnt make sense and there is no good reason for it.
Can we just take a moment to commend the interviewer for respecting how hard it is for these women, and not pusbing to hard for answers and asking if they want to take a break.

I became a dad 6 weeks ago - I could never imagine doing anything to harm or neglect my baby girl. I can’t believe these girls went through that.
I became a mother 8 months ago, and I agree. The love I feel for my son is something I've never even experienced before. I love every single molecule of him with all my heart. I cried so much watching this. These poor children. My heart breaks for them, and those parents deserve stuff I can't write here. It's a new type of hate for people who abuse kids. I thought I got mad before but now that I have my on child. The hate and anger is next level.
They're pure innocent souls. Look at them,their eyes,the way they talk. They're still little girls. Good thing all the horrific stuff didn't killed their spirits. They're still sparkling no matter how hard it was the pain. A true lesson of healing and recovery.

@@gummy5862 I mean, if they didn't get traumatized, they wouldn't even want to call the cops. I believe that things from your childhood can be traumatic, but sometimes you just don't know how to put it in words, therefore not calling a trauma untill someone from outside the situation acknowledges and tells you.
well they are in a much better place than before, but I am sure that most of the times their eyes aren't sparkling. the PTSD must be quite hard and consuming. Hopefully each day is better. though
@@gummy5862 I think because people like us who went through abuse know we are going through stuff and the older we get the more we realize we have so much trauma we haven’t dealt with.
I mean I remember as a young child dreaming, wishing and praying I can just runaway and a loving family will take me in and I didn’t go through half of what they went through but nevertheless, it’s still a traumatic experience.
I remember, all of a sudden I couldn’t speak audibly or look into anyones face when talking and this was me in my early twenties. I had left home but the fact I didn’t have a voice or say in my home growing up soon caught up with me.
I’m worried about all of them especially the ones because they’ll have to learn to be courageous, outspoken, independent in their opinions on things, they’ll have to learn to not let people use them. They’re nice because I don’t know but most people I’ve come across that were abused as kids just turn out nice. They’ll have to learn how to say no and not feel guilty. It’s a process but they’ll overcome.
To think the older sister had to live 29 years like that is absolutely heart breaking. At 29, I had my own family, home, career, etc. She had absolutely nothing. No knowledge of the world, probably couldn’t read or write, no friends, and the only family that loved her were also hostages. I have no idea how they turned out so kind and brave. They deserve to live the rest of their lives in peace and to have no problems ever again.

I think they turned out that kind and caring because in my experience, I’ve only seen cruelty do 1 of 2 things; makes you cruel or it make you kind.

I can't even put into words what I feel about those so-called "parents" who abused their children not only physically but mentally for years. The bravery of Jennifer and Jordan to come up with a plan to free themselves and their siblings from hell. They will forever be scard from the nightmare they lived daily, I'm saddened and mad that no one came to their ade.
I respect how this interviewer shows real empathy and did not push the victims at all to answer questions. Even putting her hand on top of the older sister to remind her she’s safe and it’s okay to take a break. Much respect. Unfortunately we don’t see that with many interviewers

When Jordan was talking about going to the park and said “How can heaven be better than this” That got me sooo emotional because people really take things for granted where other people are suffering and will kill for things that might seem so simple to us 🥺
It happens a lot more than you think! That’s why people shouldn’t bully or be rude to others because they may very well know nothing about what lots of people deal with. So many people don’t even talk about it just like how those kids were terrified to even leave their house, open up to people you might just save them yourself with a simple friendship!

The fact that 29 years of abuse didn’t destroy her is a miracle! She seems so serene and balanced… all these kids must have amazing brains. It’s almost impossible to overcome such trauma and socialize at this perfect level in 4 years! She had to learn to live in an age that our character is already fully developed and established.
Unfortunately you really don’t know about that. I played the part so well that nobody believes me now when I speak about what I had to endure. It’s easy to look balanced while being crushed. Crushed people are not crazy people, they don’t rock back and forth. But the struggle never ends.

Praying for them neither. And it will never get better. We’ll just learn how to live with a limp, like any disabled people. We’ll get better at it, but it will never heal, nor should we burden ourselves with feeling less than because we cannot forgive. It’s hard enough realizing it is what it is, let’s leave it at that.

I was beat by my father til I bled and bruised. Sometimes punched in the head til I was knocked out. He never got arrested once. The saddest thing is that I thought it was normal for father's to do that to their kids up until the age of 11. Most of the time I was dissociated in my childhood and don't remember much. He's gone now but that doesn't fix anything. He hasn't apologized or owned up to anything.

You can literally see the PTSD in the oldest siblings eyes. She was my age when she was set free, I just can't even fathom 29 years of torture. I'm glad they are free, but I am so saddened they will never truly be free of it.

Yes! You can see, when she's first talking to the officer, that her PTSD is peeking. That is common when someone is trying to get away from a long-time dangerous situation, or they have just gotten out, they know that that's the most dangerous time for them.
When women finally escape an abusive relationship, that is when they are most likely to be killed or nearly killed, right after breaking free. That's where the PTSD is at its highest point. The victims have been psychologically manipulated to fully believe that if they try to get free, they will die... so if they actually do get the courage to get away, there's a part of their mind that fully believes they're going to die, while other parts of their mind want to break free from all the psychological manipulation, abuse, and control.
These children will need lots of help with learning healthy relational boundaries, or they will end up with abusive people, or as abusers themselves. That is typically what happens, if they don't get serious help, because they learned to either be abusers or to be abused.
They can be free, and their past can be what makes them stronger and more compassionate than most. They are able to minister to others who've been in the same situation, better than anyone else can.

She definitely would have long-term PTSD after the abuses her parents inflicted on her.

How she cradles herself says so much, terrible what parents do to their children I still suffer from my parents' abusive behavior today and I am now 61 years old. Without good guidance continues to determine life as it has happened to me. Some of the kids were that brainwashed they defending their parents in court saying how loving and nice they were I think it was the kids that were born into it and they didn't know no different it's only the older kids that knew what they were going through was wrong I'm just glad that their father never sexuall abused them 🙏

and before you make any more assumptions, i graduated from UCLA and got my MFA from NYU. make a pretty decent living and i visit my parents every other week. i try to see them every week but it's a longish drive.

29 years locked in a house and still able to function and smile is incredible. As a child my stepmother kept me beaten and locked in a bare room for 8 years. I'm 51 now and have done well but it still haunts my thoughts now and then. God bless all the Turpin children xx

I don't think I have ever heard such honesty, expressing such sublime authenticity, with such moving simplicity, as what these Women are communicating with such freedom from contrivances.

The smell thing is still probably a traumatizing thing for her. As someone who spent several years living in filth as a child I’m very self conscious about the way I smell.
I feel you, I lived with my mom who compulsively accumulated filth over the years, BUT now I’m with my dad and things are MUUUUUCH BETTER!!!!!

I have two children I adopted from the foster care system who are also very worried all the time about how they smell. It's less now, four years in, but when we were first blessed with them, they would both ask me at least 7-8 times a day if they smelled, and it would take an hour to reassure them that they didn't stink before we left the house. It was/is totally heartbreaking.

I don't know who you are, but as soon as I read your last sentence my respect for you grew immensely. Thats how I know when a person is truly a good one, when theyre able to recognize that sentience exists in more than just humans. If you can abuse a helpless animal, you can abuse a human. Most farmed animals live in filthier conditions than what these precious girls experienced. The difference is that if you tried to help those animals escape, it would be you the one who ends up in prison. Not their abuser.
Such beautiful, courageous women. I wish the best for both of them, they deserve a life full of happiness after the hell they went through.

You can see Jennifer feels guilt about everything she had to do. It hurts to see her struggle retelling her story.
