Sailing - San Francisco To Half Moon Bay Ep 3 - SF Bay Sailing Guide

- Sailing from the San Francisco Bay to Half Moon Bay aboard a Wauquiez Hood 38. We sailed under the Golden Gate Bridge on slack tide, turned south at buoy #8 and then sailed along the coast to Half Moon Bay. We anchored in the outer harbor and sailed back the following day. Along the way we saw at least seven whales and took some amazing pictures.
Very cool. That's the one thing I miss about living there.

Nice, I'm glad you found it useful. My boat is also docked at EmeryCove. If you have any questions about going down to Half Moon Bay, let me know. It was only my second time sailing down there, but who knows, maybe I'll have a good answer. It was a weird weekend when we filmed this, wind from the south most of the trip as opposed to the typical northerly wind. The other time I headed down, there was no wind coming back up the coast, so that could happen too. We motored the whole way back.
It's a BYC sail out, one of the leaders said I could follow him out & always turn around if it gets too hectic for me. Hoping to snag one experienced (outside of the bridge) crew in case I get seasick with the swells. I don't get seasick normally, not used to large swells though. Last weekend was the Angel Island sail out I single handed & my h took the ferry over the next day to sail back. I did have help with the moorings when I got there, couldn't have done that by myself!
For Halfmoon Bay, if you think you might get seasick, just take a seasickness pill before you go. It is something I always forget to do and then half the time I end up regretting it. You can't see it in the video but I was a little queasy on the way down. The other two guys had patches. I took a pill for the trip back up and it was great. I'm probably going to have to do more single handling myself now - last weekend, Kai (our 1 year old) got seasick and threw up twice and he's to young to take any pills.
What time of year did you do this trip - later in the season?
I was thonking at some active passive utrasonic charged by the water friction ultrasoun or sail ultrasound that can or sure will drive the sharks away. The idea will be to reproduce electronicaly an "picture" of an greater predator than grat shark. Best regardes from Cluj Napoca, Romania, Europe.
