Great video as usual.... HOWEVER, the pleats topic is one I just can’t get on board with. Mainly because they don’t “lay right, or drape correctly”... most pleats just pucker out and mess up the symmetry of your overall look. So that train can come back, leave, and come back AGAIN, and I’m still not getting on board! Lol!
O.G.- I totally agree with you on all of your rule breaking list. A lot of these rules where created by people that do not understand our style and flow. Also, I think I'm going to rock your face with my go back to work style....
Dressing up a hoodie and not wearing a belt, NO, but that's just me I guess. You can pull off a hoodie more with a pair of jeans though. Wouldn't wear white in the dead of winter. Wearing different color socks is a personal favorite of mine! Dressing down the sport coat or blazer with a pair of jeans and a button down sport shirt is classic, that'll never go out of style!! Dress boot with a suit, classic, no brainer. The sneakers with a suit, yes, but it has to be a VERY minimal sneaker. Not a big fan of navy and black going together. Yes, black goes with everything, but there are more colors that go better with navy then black. Black goes better with royal blue then navy blue. A black v-neck tee with a pair a light washed blue jeans is a classic American look!!!!
I never thought Hoodie can style up with suit, it seriously looks great for semi-casual style! Gonna buy myself a Grey Sports Jacket soon. Great Video as always, Saluteeeeee~
Been rocking pleated chinos for years.. I was an avid golfer and they really allowed the movement I needed in my legs.. just never went away from them.. besides, plain fronts seem to lay weird on me, especially when I'm doing a lot of sitting and standing up over and over. Also, Love rocking black lace up wingtip boots with my dark blue denim.. especially with a black leather jacket.
As an old school suit proponent I disagree on wearing sneakers or a hoody with a suit. It’s too much of a fashion trend for me. I’m more of the opinion to lose the tie and roll up the shirt sleeves if you wanna go for the casual suit look
Oh man, a nice blue suit and clean shiny white sneakers looks amazing. Hoodie with a suit is going to be the future. I think it’s a bit more than a trend. As the world becomes more casual we will begin to take very formal things and make them casual as well. A casual suit sounds like a future possibility.
@@idrese4427 I see your point. But I think others also miss dressing up in a formal suit and tie, leather shoes and will even dress up even if they don't have a special occasion for it but just to head out for errands. I've certainly done it
Great list I agree with them all, another rule I will break is that you can't rock black and brown for instance black trousers, chinos or jeans with a black shirt while rocking a brown shoe and brown belt
Great video! No real arguments here. I was happy to see a blue tucked away in the top right corner of your belt pic. I've been rockin' blue belts for a while now and really enjoy their contribution to a monochrome look.
Salute Style OG, The one rule I can’t do is the hoodie. Just not for me. My company has a very relaxed dress code. When I was in office before COVID-19. Blazer with jeans is a must for me. I will also do black and royal blue. I’m a bag guy living in the tri- state area. A nice backpack or Messenger bag on NJ transit. Thanks for spreading the knowledge 👍🏾
I think I should dust off my light stone chinos and wear them during the winter. They’re not made with a heavy fabric but they’re not linen either. I’m in Florida so that should give me a bit more leeway 😉
Yes hoodie and an overcoat go well with each other.....but make sure it's well fitted and not baggy.....that said hoodie under an unbuttoned overcoat is 'BOOM' Salute S_OG
I pretty much agreed with all your rule breaking. The one exception is wearing white. My thought on that rule is depending on where you live does the rule apply. Also fabric, shade, and the article of clothing are important. I think a “winter white” turtleneck sweater, is a must have. If you live in SoCal, white jeans are cool. But if you live in Chicago I’d have to say no. This is me mostly being very practical, it’s hard enough keeping white clean in the summer for me virtually impossible in the winter. Just my opinion.
First time commenting. Love your videos overall. Watch them pretty faithfully. I just want to say that in my opinion, if your pants have belt loops in them, regardless of fit, wear a belt. Pants look silly with belt loops and no belt to me. If you don't want to wear a belt, then wear a shirt that covers the waist where the loops are. Also, whoever said you can't wear boots with a suit obviously never heard the term suited and booted. A nice dress boot looks good with a suit, trouser, jeans, or even chinos if done right. Just wanted to say my piece as a guy at 46, but offer my kudos to you as well. Keep the videos coming, it's needed and helpful. Salute.
Not too sure about the style rule with wearing sneakers with a suit and no tie. It’s still kind of 1980s for me… However, I have always broken the rules of black and maybe since I was in my 20s and now I’m pushing 50 with a pointy stick. Whether it be indigo jeans with a black polo or black jeans with a blue shirt I’ve always broken this role.
Lol, this was great. I often do things I want to do (of course nothing outlandish) when it comes to my style. The socks 🧦 and wearing white after Labor Day I always break. I think it is up to the individual and how comfortable they are with themselves. It is also not my place to tell someone how or what they should be wearing at anytime of the year. I must say I like that combo you have on! Keep giving us this great work good Sir...
Always great content. This video goes in line with "norms" are changing like never before. My toughest one is the navy and black. I have never liked that combination and often spend too much time trying to decide on the color shoe to wear with a blue suit. Lol I tend to go with a burgundy to calm my slight OCD of having to match.
Great video Jeff. The style rules are on time. I own four pairs of dress boots that I wear with suits and jeans. I also like to wear hoodies. Keep up the good work.
Yeah Jeff I’ve been one of those anti hoodie guys since their popularity exploded, and as I’m an older guy like yourself I prefer a more age appropriate look. No shirts with writing or sports team logos or backwards ball caps how ever recently I picked up a couple of zip hoodies, I have a white one I wore recently with a white button down and my favorite Peacoat, very dark green khakis (chinos if you like) and low profile white sneakers and my signature bucket hat for a nice age appropriate casual look for a chore run, great topic BTW a guy like yourself should consider side pull tab trousers, no belt is fine but no belt with belt loops looks kinda odd and unfinished to me
Like that sweater and I never stopped wearing pleated pants still got compliments being different is a good thing. I remember when I had to go out and had a suit on I left the house with sneakers on when I got to where I was going the fellas said I looked comfortable I took off the tie and thats how I started and still do back in the day that was a no no lol
