Those early pre 1987 M9's that had issues with frame cracking were at the +30,000 round count. In other words they had been used past their recommended service life. Navy Seals are great at breaking things.
Just bought this for my guy for his birthday gift. He's been in love with this particular firearm for a very long time, but it wasn't anything he'd ever buy for himself. I cannot wait to give this to him, I'm so excited. Thank you for the video, it gave enough information for me to go ahead and make the purchase - I now understand why he loves it so much :)
I found a 92f today with adjustable fear sights.... Other than dings and scratches is was in great shape. Manufacture date 1989... After 31 years to is still going strong. The barrel appears to have been replaced. Great gun.
I was just gifted one for an early Christmas giftI am on cloud nine mm right now I already have several very nice hand guns and I feel as if I just got another I am so thankful what a loving gift
I too fell in love with the 92fs through the movie Lethal Weapon (not die hard) as soon as I seen Mel Gibson pull the Beretta out I knew I had to have one, and I love it even more now that I got one of my own.
I got issued one. It's pretty good, easy take down and easy to use. The only problem I had was, mine was probably 15 years old and not taken care of and the barrel had a little surface rust on it.
I first carried the M9 in 1999 when my unit was deployed to East Timor. On my 2nd ship I was the best shot for the 4 years I was onboard, same thing with my last ship, best shot before I retired. Recently I bought a M9 which needs to go to the range and get some rounds put through it.
I also bought Beretta 9mm when Martin Riggs duel wielded them in Lethal Weapon. I bought the "FS" model and it was my first gun purchase ever. I still have it and only changed the grips to a more comfortable rubberized grip. Excellent gun. It's so reliable and easy to shoot that it's almost not fun because I already know how it will respond... perfectly.
For me it was Jay Hernandez in the movie Hostel, Ethan Hawke in Training Day, and a small army of LAPD officers shooting at the infamous Bank of America robbers back in 1997.
Thanks for the good review sootch. Just purchased a used m9 in great shape with 7 mags. Looking forward to firing at the range. Great reviews keep them coming!
Good to hear the songs of praise for this pistol. I bought the 92A1 and love it. Most everyone i talk to tell me to sell it cause its too big for a 9mm. It fits my hands like a glove.
The only advantage the smaller & lighter guns have is they are easier if you carry every day. Full sized guns shoot better. The extra weight reduces felt recoil making follow up shots faster & the longer barrel increases velocity a bit. I don't understand this smaller = better mentality. For a carry gun yes, smaller has advantages but if it's for home defense or range fun a full sized gun shoots & feels better.
shananagans5 .... I carry my M9 everywhere with no complaints although having said that it's the only one I've ever carried so have nothing to compare it with. I conceal carry and always wear a shirt loose outside my pants and it hides fine there. I've put around 3000 rnds through it without one blockage unlike my pal who takes his 1911 to the range and it hang up sometimes 3/4 times. I'll never part with this M9, yeah it's big but it just felt right in my hand from day one.
Richard Jarvis I carry mine too. I am a woman & it's easy to carry under a skirt with a drop leg holster. Back in the 90s I had a Sig 226 & my friend had an M9 & we shot every month while we were in school. It was rare to miss a month & we shot 100 or 150 rounds depending on budget. We both put new springs in our guns but neither had any real problems for the ten years we were in school. We figure we had a minimum of 12,000 & probably closer to 15,000 rounds through our guns. A few years after his locking block broke but that is a $30 part & easy to install. My understanding is Beretta has improved the locking blocks too.
Richard Jarvis I have a glock 26 and i would never carry the m9 having that thing and a glock 30s to carry they are both so small i dont even notice i am carrying anything sometimes - that being said i have an m9 and im seriously thinkg about getting rid of it because it is so big - but i figure i have three carry guns so whats so bad about having another full size range gun
RedNosePitbullMT .... Different strokes for different folks as they say. I find my M9 a comfortable gun to carry but then open carry is legal in SD too so it doesn't matter that much if it's spotted but if it didI'd probably go for something a little smaller.
The first pistol I shot when I became an adult. The only problems I ever had with it was when Navy Security issued me a beat-up M9 that the armorer hadn't cleaned properly would lead to stove-pipes or failure to go into battery. (They would issue the weapon at "The House" before we went on watch, so there was no opportunity to clean it myself.) Also dropping magazines on the ground constantly for years (speed reload drills) led to the butt plate on one of my magazines to pop off and spill my rounds all over the deck. But as for my own 92FS, it has been consistently reliable and highly accurate. The only "break in period" the gun needs is to smooth out the trigger pull. Other than that, it's good right out of the box.
I own colts, hks, sigs, berettas, glocks. But my weapon of choice is my Beretta M9 I bought used at a pawn shop. I trust my life and my families on that thing.
The M9/92 doesnt do very well in water/muck tests, but they do shoot pretty well. I never could get used to the grip being as wide as it is, but it is a decent pistol. You can get some really good deals on them now with all the wonder polymer guns making up most of the market. I wish they would have stayed with the original design that allowed for cocked and locked carry with a thumb safety like the 1911. That was a cool gun.
Great review! I am buying one of these as a second pistol. Right now I have a rock island 45 acp. Love it, but ammo is expensive. And I am keeping it though, because its a great gun.
very true, you never have to worry about jams with revolvers, but as long as you clean down your automatic properly, the odds of a jam (especially with the M9) are so low. I just really like the 15+1, 17+1, and 32+1 capacities that I get with this weapon, because I double tap a lot, and it's just an added peace of mind
I always took my M9 on watch. Before I joined the Navy one of my fellow recruits and I tried out the M9 to get some practice before bootcamp. I also rented us a 1911. I always wanted to shoot both. To be honest the trigger of the 1911 is far superior to the M9 with it barely-need to pull. However after earning my Expert 9mm ribbon the M9 has grown on me and I was taught how to make the double-action trigger work for me. Call me crazy but I consider the M9 to be the AK47 of 9mm. Awesome review and HOOYAH!
Thank you for your service I went into the Navy in 1982 and retired in 2003 I used the 38 spl revolver 1911a1 and the m9 I was a cook with a side job as a gunnersmate guns. lol along time ago the reason the 1911 trigger is a little better is because its a single action where the M9 is a double action it has more to do ! LOL i managed to get my sharpshooter ribbon missed expert by 1 lousy point using both the 1911 and the M9 requalified before retirement the very old LSD i was on used the 38's we had both some Smiths and Rugers I used all 3 on watch at one time or another. the long trigger pull didnt bother me too much on the m9 because i sooo used to the revolvers. I shoot competatively in IDPA and i use the revolver as my primary Thanks for listening to a old man relive the past shakes ur hand
I carried a 1911 for about 11 years..It was extremely reliable but in truth I couldn't hit anything past 25 yards. I had the opportunity to shoot a Beretta at our range and the 9mm was extremely accurate; I would prefer it in a combat situation!
The 92FS also has a U.S. manufacturing plant as well as one in Italy. You can buy either model at stores like Cabelas. They also come in a polished aluminum and steel version that is really sharp.
i'm thinking about the INOX compact version. The compact is a bit stubby and not as pretty as the original but the INOX finish is just stunning. I didn't know the 92 was also made in the US. Interesting.
Loved this vid Sootch! Long time fan of the 92 but got back into them again recently. I've recently owned a M9A1 and now have a 92A1 with dovetailed front sight. I'll attach a video response that shows how to do a simple & effective trigger improvement in case you're interested. Please never stop making vids brother...love all the great info!
my dad has a 92f and have have a .40 cal elite 2(96g)!iwe both love our beretta`s!i actually got mine because i always liked his!i believe he got his in 1987 and it has a low number of rounds through it!enjoy yours!great review!
I had a 92FS not long ago, and the pins on the right side of the safety lever started working loose when I'd fire it. Beretta never had any in stock and I was told to contact the nearest authorized service center by the Beretta rep when I contacted them about the availability of the pins. The local service center rep said to bring in the frame, and I reminded him that the safety lever is on the slide. He said "Then we can't help you..." then hung up. I don't care how wonderful a pistol Beretta 90 series may be, I'll never own another one.
I think it's a good idea to cross train with the beretta 92/96, glock 17/22, sig P-226 and S&W 5906/4006/4566. They're very common among law enforcement so in a SHTF situation you're very likely to come across these weapons. It's just nice to have a feel for them in case you have to scavenge for weapons and ammo.
I love these guys who spend all their time making youtube videos. Why don't you just SPEND TIME with them instead of worrying how you'd protect them in "what if" scenarios?
This gun also replaced the .38 revolver in military inventories. I went to Desert Shield with a .38 because the base I was assigned to in the US did not have the Beretta pistol and had limited 1911s.
@Primeda I concur, It has alot to do with the firearm that you are shooting the 45 ACP from. Military 1911's are very smooth, and I think that It's very controllable. I'm 16, and I think the 45 is a joy to shoot. Then again, I shoot the M9A1, the S&W Model 15 Combat Masterpiece, and some other pistols.
Hey Sootch00 just FYI (and of course I thought the same thing like almost everyone does, untill I got corrected) The Hague convention actually mandates the use of specific bullets "Which Expand or Flatten Easily in the Human Body"
Thanks for the video I'm retired military and I everyday carry my m9 I love the thing. I do fancy the 1911 still to this day, I do like to carry more rounds, that's in case I miss, lol
I don't know why or how anybody could ever bash the Beretta 92FS. This is the most reliable and smoothest 9mm to ever be built. I just recently bought a Glock in .45 and I do love it, but for a 9mm, there is no better than the Beretta, period. I would put my life on the line with this gun any day of the week.
i have a 96 in .40S&W that is double action only and it is also fantastic...heck i even have a 950 jetfire in .25acp that is awesome too...gotta love the beretta...thanks for showing it
I carry Beretta 96 as my EDC weapon. it is styled just like the 92F or M9 the only difference is it is a .40 caliber. I love this weapon, very accurate and the recoil is minimal. whether I am shooting at a stationary target or moving target it is the most accurate weapon I have ever owned.
Great Channel Sootch. I love the Beretta 92fs. Great weapon. I bought one brand new a few years back. I had to part with it. But I'm looking to add a new one to The collection.
The front sight is not removable but the rear is removed with either a drift or preferably bench mounted equipment. Mec-gar make a very high quality flush fit 18 round mag that functions better than the origional mag. A plus 2 is also availabe.
I had a Ruger P95 9mm , it cost me $320 and came with a life time warranty . I had my first stoppage at 26650 rounds when the extractor broke . Accuracy ? I qualified with a almost perfect score with it . I just purchased a M9 I hope it's as reliable as the Ruger and if so I'll be very happy.
did you have your local Smith fix it? do you still have the Ruger I am interested in purchasing it from you please contact me at mda2172@yahoo.com subject line please state your the guy fron youtube with the Ruger p95
6:49 or so. Judging by the carbon mark on Sootch’s fingers, he’s been using his M9 quite a bit now to leave that much soot on his fingers when touched the barrel.
Nice presentation. Bought a 92F in 1990 to replace the standard .38 military aviator carry. Felt much safer with the Beretta while flying. We used to joke that if avoiding capture with the 38 revolver, if used against the bad guys would just piss them off. Then you'd be out of rounds. The 92F made you much more capable of defending yourself.
Price/unit. Two guns made it through the selection: Beretta 92 and Sig-Sauer P226. The Beretta was cheaper. In retrospect the Sig would have been less expensive because it hasn´t had a need to be modified. The Beretta on the other hand needed changes in the slide to not blow up in your face after extended use (and the frames cracked too). Those problem are now fixed. The problem today is that the gun itself just doesn´t fit well in most peoples hands, but if it does you have a fine gun.
The Beretta 92F survived exposure to temperatures from -40 to 140 °F , being soaked in salt water, being dropped repeatedly on concrete, and being buried in sand, mud and snow. Additionally, the 92F proved a MRBF (mean rounds before failure) of 35,000 rounds. That number is often touted as the equivalent to five or six times the pistol's service life. While this is normally true in European militaries, armed forces of the United States normally subject sidearms to much more extensive use
Stephen Maurer And I love it Cat-Dog. Yes, it is big for a 9mm. Yes, it is a bit heavy. But who cares? Keep it cleaned and lubed and it will never jam. Ignore the two dot sight system and just line up the posts (equal height, equal light) and you will hit the bull's eye every time. The lines are as appealing as a twenty year old girl in a bikini. Sometimes I lay it on the table next to my Walther P08 and marvel at how the Italians improved that innovative German design. A keeper for any collection.
I have some older Berettas with a similar design (a 1934 .380 and a 943 .22), so the general design is quite old--talk about "tried and true". The 92 is definitely on my list.
When he cocked the gun back after he pulled the trigger, I thought a bullet came out the bottom of where the magazine inserts but then seen it said it “fell off the box “😂
Their service life is superb. But don't let your emotions and personal preferences get in the way of a good argument. Sigs are in the US military inventory as well.
@mathnerdm I have a Beretta 96A1 (its in 40 S&W) that i use for Home defense, but i also carry it when im hunting in a shoulder harness. It's alittle heavier than the 92F, but i hardly notice that it there. If you carry it under a vest or a jacket you could do it very easily. If you want a railed version of the 92 (which i would highly recommend) get the 92A1 its in 9mm, but has a weapons rail like my 96A1
A good overview of this firearm. I inherited one of these and this video has inspired me to pull it out of the closet to get acquainted with it. May even consider carrying it; will save me from carrying a spare magazine on-body.
well its difficult to line up the rear fiber optic sight with the front fixed if you can't see it in low light. Still, comparing the M9 with the 1911 9mm, the M9 seems more high profile unlike the 1911 when you hold it both hands its hard to tell if its a single or double stack.
this gun copied the Walther P-38 as far as a open slide and barrel as far as the dropping block the Walther p-38 has the same thing also the first double action . Mine is the 92FS is this the same thing as a M9 or 92F? please advise
Slides did not crack because of a problem in the gun, the 9MM NATO ammo that the US government was having manufactured had pressure levels WELL above the specification. Beretta designed the pistol to operate within a certain pressure level, you can't blame that on them. The only gripe I have with the Beretta is the position of the safety. If you perform immediate action on it, you can too-easily engage the safety
sootch, first time viewer. Thanks for the Beretta review. Looking for a decent 9mm for home protection plus to train daughter w/firearms (she's going into criminal justice). Beretta review left a positive impression. Looks to be very sturdy & durable. Already subscribed. This will be my first handgun & will be looking for safety training plus home gun safe.
I have this gun, great gun, but I've never really understood the notion that the open slide prevents stove piping. I've never seen a casing causing a porblem when the slide is going rearward as opposed to going forward.
Nice video. I love the 92 series. In fact, I carry one everyday. For me, even concealed carry isn't that big of a deal. But everyone has different opinions. :) "That's some serious "stuff"' you carry." -Murtaugh "Be my guest" - Riggs "Hm, 9mm Beretta, takes 15 in the mag, one up the pipe. Wide ejection port, no feed jams." - Murtaugh "What you got in there." -Riggs ''Four inch Smith."- Murtaugh "Six shooter huh? A lot of of timers carry those." Riggs :)
Yeah,me too.The movie "Lethal Weapon"(1987)influence me tobe interested in this pistol(even though I was a young teenager at the time). @:36,I just luv that sound.
This is a home defense firearm, NOT a carry weapon. This is a great firearm. It IS very reliable. It got a bad name because the militray never took care of their inventory. When I was in I never had any trouble with them, and own one now for home defense. It was a great sidearm for the military but the open barrel is a nightmare for clogs and debris in the middle eastern theater, so not upset they went to the Sig to replace it, although I think Sig's are GROSSLY overpriced.
Those early pre 1987 M9's that had issues with frame cracking were at the +30,000 round count. In other words they had been used past their recommended service life. Navy Seals are great at breaking things.
False.
@wehrewulfx9551 great imput...😜🤪😝
I love my Beretta 92FS. 👍❤ Its definitely an iconic pistol.
The beretta 92FS they put the beretta weapons comppany and years later in 2005 beretta they will create a beretta px4 strom.
my 92fs is the only gun i will never sell... Amazing !
Just bought this for my guy for his birthday gift. He's been in love with this particular firearm for a very long time, but it wasn't anything he'd ever buy for himself. That's an amazing gift. He's lucky to have you as his SO. He'll love it. :)
He did love it :) Thanks!
Dump him. Bring me the Beretta.
Victoria range haĺqormi
You’re a great SO, he’s lucky to have you.
Most reliable pistol I've ever owned. Smooth, also.
Thanks Sootch I've applied ALOT of your tips to my everyday life! I just purchased my Beretta 92SF today. look forward to shooting it.
A lot is two words.
I found a 92f today with adjustable fear sights.... Other than dings and scratches is was in great shape. Manufacture date 1989... After 31 years to is still going strong. The barrel appears to have been replaced. Great gun.

Always a pleasure to watch your videos. The time you spend planning, recording, editing, encoding and uploading is much appreciated. Good job!
I love both my 92fs and 1911

As always, your reviews are very informative and instructive. Appreciate as well your love of country. The 92FS is indeed a superb firearm.

It was Bruce Willis in Die Hard that did it for me! Had to have one. Zero regrets. Beretta make very reliable firearms.
It was in lethal weapon too
For me it was Jay Hernandez in the movie Hostel, Ethan Hawke in Training Day, and a small army of LAPD officers shooting at the infamous Bank of America robbers back in 1997.
For me it was a Mission Impossible 3 :)
Martin Riggs did it best with the Beretta in the Lethal Weapon movies!
@@punchy740 ...bought my 92 the day after saw Lethal Weapon 1986, $579 and still have it 😎💪🏼
Thanks for the good review sootch. Just purchased a used m9 in great shape with 7 mags. Looking forward to firing at the range. Great reviews keep them coming!

Its the right handgun, for the right war!!!
The 80's movies had made this handgun a culture icon! Martin Riggs perfected its handle of it!
RIIIIIIIGGGSS!!!! Lmao
@Stefano Pavone ummmm…..🥴……You wanna kill somebody?

I've got a old Beretta model 102 (.22) that looks just like the 92F. Its probably 30 years old, has been used extensively and still works great.
FYI: Hague Convention. Not the Geneva Convention.
I love the sound of the Beretta 92F when it fires.
Great review! I am buying one of these as a second pistol. Right now I have a rock island 45 acp. Love it, but ammo is expensive. And I am keeping it though, because its a great gun.

I became a fan of the 92F after seeing John Woo's "The Killer" and "Hard Boiled" back in the 90s!

Such good movies! Some of my all time favorite movies!
Just picked one up for 600$ in Nov 2021. Love it!

I don't care how wonderful a pistol Beretta 90 series may be, I'll never own another one.
You could have found a nail of the right size and pushed through and bend it over, guaranteed not to work it's way out.
Best pistol I got that is over 30 years old and still going strong'!
This gun also replaced the .38 revolver in military inventories. I went to Desert Shield with a .38 because the base I was assigned to in the US did not have the Beretta pistol and had limited 1911s.
my favorite handgun
@Primeda I concur, It has alot to do with the firearm that you are shooting the 45 ACP from. Military 1911's are very smooth, and I think that It's very controllable. I'm 16, and I think the 45 is a joy to shoot. Then again, I shoot the M9A1, the S&W Model 15 Combat Masterpiece, and some other pistols.
I cannot wait until I'm old enough to buy/carry one of these!!
Glad to see my main handgun shown on here! :D Love me some itallian steel! lol
Hey Sootch00 just FYI (and of course I thought the same thing like almost everyone does, untill I got corrected) The Hague convention actually mandates the use of specific bullets "Which Expand or Flatten Easily in the Human Body"
I fell in love with it after watching Lethal Weapon as well!
I would put my life on the line with this gun any day of the week.
i love these old videos
Although, there is an external indicator that tells you whether a round is chambered. It can even be felt in the dark if required.
i have a 96 in .40S&W that is double action only and it is also fantastic...heck i even have a 950 jetfire in .25acp that is awesome too...gotta love the beretta...thanks for showing it
I carry Beretta 96 as my EDC weapon. it is styled just like the 92F or M9 the only difference is it is a .40 caliber. I love this weapon, very accurate and the recoil is minimal. whether I am shooting at a stationary target or moving target it is the most accurate weapon I have ever owned.
I've shot my uncles 96 it was sweet
Great Channel Sootch. I love the Beretta 92fs. Great weapon. I bought one brand new a few years back. I had to part with it. But I'm looking to add a new one to The collection.
I have the 92f from 1989 I love it its so smooth
The front sight is not removable but the rear is removed with either a drift or preferably bench mounted equipment.
Mec-gar make a very high quality flush fit 18 round mag that functions better than the origional mag. A plus 2 is also availabe.
@sootch00 .45 is definately the way to go. Always good to see you.
Love the Beretta 92's, I've got 3 and a Taurus PT92 AFS reviewed on my channel
I love it and I just get one ( 92 FS ) for my self today. God Bless America.
i like the way it looks better then a glock.
Heck yeah it does! 😎👍
I bought the 92F instead of the Glock 17. The Beretta is a classic beauty, The Glock is ugly but my son loves his Model 26 and 21.
I find it funny how most people can't talk about a gun without comparing it to a Glock. It must be tough living under that shadow.
@@scooterbob4432.... The Glock is not ugly. The Beretta 92FS is definitely the better-looking gun, but the Glock isn't ugly.
Just inherited one... its now my new favorite!
I was held at gunpoint by one of these once when i was 13, im 14 now.
Thank you for a job well done. I own one of these and love it. I now know how to do a quick clean.
Just got my hands on a service pistol, usgi. Sweet shooter. Love the bloopers btw! Cheers
I went CZ75b but I love the way my dad's M9 feels in my hands. Great gun. I just wouldn't recommend concealed carry unless your like 7' tall.
Love my stainless 92 with the factory Beretta 30 round mag. ;0)
Excellent! 🙂
I've wanted one for awhile, perfect for my big hands. Works well with +P ammo too.
Hague Convention, not the Geneva Convention deals with types of ammunition used by the military.
Good video. Nice little history lesson on the the Beretta.
just shot this thing today at a range and it was awesome!!
Looks so much better now that it's clean there Sootch!!!
Nice video. Just picked my M9 up today. Will shoot tomorrow.
18661873 How do you like it?
Stephen Maurer And I love it Cat-Dog.
Yes, it is big for a 9mm. Yes, it is a bit heavy. But who cares?
Keep it cleaned and lubed and it will never jam.
Ignore the two dot sight system and just line up the posts (equal height, equal light) and you will hit the bull's eye every time. The lines are as appealing as a twenty year old girl in a bikini. Sometimes I lay it on the table next to my Walther P08 and marvel at how the Italians improved that innovative German design.
A keeper for any collection.
Thanks for all the details. Havnt come across a video this thorough 👍
As always, another great review. Always wondered about the open barrel, now I know. Thanks!
I have some older Berettas with a similar design (a 1934 .380 and a 943 .22), so the general design is quite old--talk about "tried and true". The 92 is definitely on my list.
Thanks for the informative review. Really smooth presentation. Think I need to get one now.
If you want a railed version of the 92 (which i would highly recommend) get the 92A1 its in 9mm, but has a weapons rail like my 96A1
seems pretty big for a 15 rounder. I actually feel for it before, the only thing that turned me off was that the sights weren't replaceable.
Effective range of 50m and a maximum range of 1800m
Very nice handgun, Beretta m9
sootch, first time viewer.
"That's some serious "stuff"' you carry." -Murtaugh
"Be my guest" - Riggs
"Hm, 9mm Beretta, takes 15 in the mag, one up the pipe. Wide ejection port, no feed jams." - Murtaugh
"What you got in there." -Riggs
''Four inch Smith."- Murtaugh
"Six shooter huh? A lot of of timers carry those." Riggs
:)
Just picked up a 92FS Brigadier.
Great video. Good to know about that special tool for the mag release since I'm a lefty.
