Appearantly when Anthony Hopkins first walked on set as Odin looking all badass in his armor and throne, he said "Well, no need for acting today." because they all looked so great it just came naturally. Kenneth Beanaugh directed, guy has a ton of Shakespeare experience.
You guys are very good but like most multi-reactors, you tend to talk over key dialogue and miss important info that would serve to answer your own questions. Otherwise, I love your energy and enthusiasm for these films!
agreed, I watched the Interstellar reaction first. That one was great! This is the second video I've watched, and they have indeed cut down on the talking over dialogue in comparison. Much appreciated, because I skipped a good portion of this one due to sidebar convos or them trying to crack jokes.
My family tree is Norse. When I traced the family back, it got insanely confusing with all their weird rules about adding "son" (or dotter) to the ends of names.
This was a fun reaction! Although the problem with watching the first Thor after the other movies is that it’s easy to assume malice behind Loki’s actions in the beginning. He’s definitely jealous, but he’s not wrong about Thor not being ready to be the king. He didn’t intend to get Thor banished, he just wanted Odin to see/realize that Thor wasn’t ready to be king. There’s a deleted scene where Loki and his mom are talking after Odin falls into his coma sleep, and she’s actually the one who has him take up the kingship while Odin is asleep - he’s surprised by it. So that was all above board. And when Thor’s friends approach Loki in the throne room, he’s right, he can’t just bring Thor back because that would make an already volatile political situation far, far worse. Think about it - the frost giants have just declared war on Asgard because of Thor’s actions, and Odin‘s last command was that Thor be banished. Punishment for Thor, certainly, but also possibly an attempt to placate Laufey and avoid war. If Loki goes back on that, it would make Asgard look indecisive and weak to their allies. Not to mention, Thor at this point is still a bit of a “well let’s fight then” impulsive personality - if he were to come back and assume the throne, he might welcome the war with Jotunheim, which could get civilians killed. Loki‘s logic is sound and he’s genuinely still doing what he thinks is best for the people of Asgard at that point in the movie. That doesn’t excuse him trying to kill Thor later, of course. Edit: at the end, Loki letting go was him trying to commit suicide. Edit 2: a link to the altered/deleted scene where Loki becomes king. That part starts around 2:05. th-cam.com/video/vUojZGq46qo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=jnFdVifmdQ7rnCa1
@@Stephanie-es7wv haha of course!! I know many people don’t actually put thought into things like world building and politics in movies, especially in early MCU movies - often there’s the idea of “this person is impeding the main character therefore they are wrong”, which causes viewers to overlook things like “ok but consider the actual political ramifications in this scenario”. And it doesn’t help that the first Thor is so very Shakespearean (which often expects the audience to figure out political machinations, character motivations, and even sometimes who the “hero” is on their own - see Claudio and Benedick from Much Ado About Nothing), so a lot of the political interplay isn’t made obvious or the real intention behind a speech is implied only through rhetoric instead of outright stated. (Such as with Marc Antony’s speech to rally the Romans in Julius Caesar.) I personally think they convey it pretty well, but I’ll admit it’s not obvious that no, actually, Loki reversing Thor’s banishment *would* be a terrible idea and *could* lead to war. At that point in time, Loki has legitimate and genuine concern for the people of Asgard if he pursues that option. It doesn’t help, of course, that the way he addresses Thor’s friends is so dismissive and arrogant. As mentioned, it also doesn’t help that they cut the scene of Frigga telling Loki to take up the mantle of king, AND of course Loki is rather desperate to do a good job and impress Odin - and bringing Thor back/starting a war would be the exact opposite of a “good job”. I think a lot of people are either too focused on the emotional connection to Thor or they’ve already seen Loki as the villain in other MCU movies to remember that clever tricks and subtle political machinations are often important in The Bard’s works. Much Ado About Nothing has its entire conflict started by underhanded scheming and then entirely solved for multiple couples by more underhanded scheming. Julius Caesar, Antony and Cleopatra, and Coriolanus all demonstrate the failure of the “warrior-king” ideal and how it leads to tragedy. Back to Mark Antony’s ability to rally the crowd of Romans against Brutus and the other conspirators - it was entirely down to him being a brilliant speaker, but also a devious and cunning speaker who repeatedly *says* Brutus is honorable while intentionally convincing the crowd of the exact opposite. And that’s presented as a good thing. It’s easy to see just how far Loki has spiraled by the end of the movie and just assume he was a villain all along and everything he did was malicious instead of realizing he basically went through whatever is the opposite of character growth lol. Again, not that Loki was like secretly the good guy here or something. Just that he had good and logical reasons beyond his own ego to do what he did for the first half of the movie or so.
It's not okay to hate Loki. If people would just pay attention to the dialogue and think about the backstory then you would understand Loki's motivation and how he feels. I always felt sorry for him. Thor was an arrogant prick, who was always treated better than Loki by Odin - "Know your place, brother" is just one example. Thors friends were bullying him probably his whole life, because he's not the typical warrior type. He is interested in magic and reading and is more a strategic thinker in battle. He was always an outsider and that Odin lied to him makes it even worse. They've always been told, that the Frost Giants are monsters, that Thor always wanted to slay down. Imagine now you find out that you're one of them. Loki only wanted to be equal to Thor. And even when Loki was hanging over the edge - physically and mentally - Odin could not show one bit of understanding and affection, so Loki let go, believing he would die. And I totally agree with @samanthaw3845 comment.

Hawkeye got his own TV show, not a movie. But its really good, heavily recommend it. Btw, Donald Blake is a comics reference. Thats how he was called in the comics when he was on earth. Difference is that Donald Blake didnt have memories of his life as Thor.
It will be awhile before you get to the Hawkeye show going in release order, but absolutely stick with release order and the Hawkeye show is worth the wait!
"Hawkeye" (Jeremy Renner, who recently survived a near fatal snow plow accident that should have killed him) is right-handed in this movie but is his natural southpaw state in the MCU going forward.
You guys are the MEn listenig to us fans and startiing this adventure/journey/saga . . . . you will NOT be disappointed. Just stay in release order, watch all through the end credits and keep an eye out for Stan the man Lee! he's in them all and he is like no one else! Someone has already mentioned, no doubt, that this was directed by Kenneth Brannagh. This had Shakespearean vibes all the way thoughit :) Good job guys, as usual. Sorry that I am late for the party. You just popped up on my stream. Keep doing what you are doing.
About Loki: "What is he a good guy now?" Loki is one of the best characters in the MCU. You need to watch Endgame and then the Loki TV series (at least season 1). Tom Hiddleston absolutely embraced the role. It's an example of an actor who took a role and went so much further than what was written on the page. He made Loki very complex. They also do a great job of taking the whole mythology of Yggdrasil (and the Byfrost) and making it "real."
Guys in these Marvel movies I can't tell if you are missing key elements because you joke over these scenes, while you pause at other moments? :P Either tell me that you watch the entire thing without jokes (so I don't get tics when you do it) or level up and put those attribute points into your pause game :D

From now on...if you are going to do this journey with the fans please don't skip around....let's go one by one. The context of everything and how it is connected is important in the MCU.
