    I love videos like this, finding great new to watch movies is a real kick. Best blind buy I found amazing for me is ‘Mansion of the Doomed’ - took me by surprise it was so good. Available on 101 films on Blu-ray with a special edition black box here in the UK.

    Great list. I blind bought Tombstone and watched it for the first time today. Amazing movie! Maybe even in my top 20 of all time now. Val Kilmer as Doc delivered the performance of a lifetime!
    I also just recently watched Sorcerer for the first time as well! Another amazing movie! Some of the scenes had my jaw on the floor in suspense and shock!

      these are old films 🎥 😅 I would have never thought as a kid in 90s that in 2024 these films be classics..... technology way better now however I guess it still cant make up for Style, grit and story telling.

    • @TheOriginalFuzz
      @TheOriginalFuzz  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@ReggaebeatmanYeah most of the films I talk about on the channel are older films. I grew up in the 70s and 80s, and I much prefer old-school film-making with practical effects to the whole green screen/CGI thing. While the technology may be better now, I still don't think CGI is a good substitute for practical sets, set pieces, effects, location shooting, real explosions, etc. CGI is still a little too sterile for my tastes. I'm not anti-CGI, as I do believe it can be an effective tool in augmenting practical effects and sets, but CGI will never be a complete replacement in my mind.

    Enjoyed, thank you Fuzz. So glad you highlighted Friedkin's Sorcerer. It's a true hidden gem, and the backstory on why it didn't do well when first released is for several reasons, number one it was released the same time as Star Wars and its explosive hype, audiences confused over title Sorcerer, sounded like a follow-up to The Exorcist or that horror genre. In interview (on youtube somewhere) Friedkin states that Sorcerer is his most personal satisfying film, says that he is most proud of it and wouldn't change a thing today. Sorcerer is a remake of the classic original Wages of Fear by famed director Clouzot....I like it too, and Sorcerer remake improves on it in some areas and a rare remake that stands on its own. And while you're interested in Friedkin catalog, I HIGHLY recommend Killer Joe...wow, totally unexpected and great performances from Gina Gershon and Matthew McConaughey...the chicken wing segment if unfamiliar, uh you'll find out, no spoiler:)
    Unfamiliar with The Guest, but definitely will warrant further research, maybe possible buy per your review.

    • @shadowaccount

      Killer Joe stinks and is pure shock value. Horrible performances and weak script. Friedkin was clearly off his dementia meds.

      Interesting stuff about Sorcerer and its release. I was only about 6-7 years old at the time, so I wasn't really aware of much of anything except Star Wars LMAO! But it totally makes sense that Sorcerer would've had some problems. I do think the name was indeed misleading, and I would've hated to have been a filmmaker trying to release basically ANY movie post-Star Wars in 1977... rough gig! LOL!
      Thanks for the tip on Killer Joe! I will definitely check that one out. There are a couple other Friedkin films I'm curious about as well... Rampage and Bug, which I believe are bothe also coming to 4K, along with the Hunted (that one I have seen and will definitely pick up on 4K).
      Yeah you should definitely give the Guest a try. I found it to be really entertaining. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts! I very much appreciate it.

    I just ordered Righting Wrongs from Vinegar Syndrome earlier today. 😊 It’s one that I’ve had my eye on for a while now, and when I recently got 20 bucks in rewards points from VS I decided to finally pull the trigger on it. I even got the limited edition slipcase; they had about 170ish copies left when I placed my order

      Oh right on! I wasn't sure if there would be any limited edition boxes left. But I'm glad to hear there are still a few left as of this video release. It's a fun film. And one thing I forgot to mention in the video is that this VS edition also includes a cool 90-minute documentary on "The Best of Martial Arts Films," hosted by John Saxon. As someone who is relatively new to this genre, I found the documentary to be a great little crash course in getting me somewhat up-to-speed on the genre. So yeah, great bonus features in Righting Wrongs. I hope you enjoy it! Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Hey Fuzz, great video. Blind buys that pay off are awesome. 100% agree with the Beekeeper. I not a big Statham fan. Before the Beekeeper, I would say Homefront was my favourite or The Transporter. One of my favorite blind buys was actually mentioned on Mid Level Medias latest video, Chronicles. What a great superhero type movie starring a young Michael B Jordan. I know I have also mentioned to you as well that I am not a huge horror fan, but The Ring and The Witch have to be my favourite blind buy horror movies. I am looking forward to my copy of the Ring 4k next month. I recently just purchased Oblivion with Tom Cruise, but haven't watched it yet. It was a bit of a sleeper behind Edge of Tomorrow which i really liked. Have you got around to watching Ninja Assassin yet. Revenge of Ninja may become your second favourite Ninja movie. Lol. 🍻

    • @TheOriginalFuzz
      @TheOriginalFuzz  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Dwayne great to see you! I will definitely have to check out Chronicle when I get the chance. The only reason I haven't watched it yet is because I heard it was a found-footage type film, and I tend to not really get into the found footage genre as much. But if it's that good, I'll have to give it a try at some point. I've heard others mention it's a pretty decent movie too.
      I too am looking forward to The Ring on 4K... I have it pre-ordered myself, and I plan to talk about it on the channel during spooky season (I'll probably do a 4K review on it -- like a 4K Takeaways spooky season edition or something lol). I do like The Witch as well, though I don't have that killer deluxe edition that Ken over at Mid Level has. Mine is just the standard blu-ray, but I've heard the deluxe edition is much better because it has the director's approval and looks a little different with the color timing, etc.
      I also have Oblivion as well... that's a fun film. I actually liked it a little more than Edge of Tomorrow. I haven't checked out Ninja Assassin yet, but it's still on my list to pick up at some point (I think I even still have it in my saved cart on Amazon, but then it kind of slipped my mind). Thanks for watching and chiming in my friend!

    Sorcerer and To Live and Die in LA we’re both great blind buys for me. When I’m confident in a director, such as William Friedkin, I tend to chase up their other work and make plenty of blind buys. I did that this year with John Sayles after watching the amazing Lone Star in 4K (my current watch of the year) and was then blown away by City of Hope and Matewan staring the amazing Chris Cooper and the late great James Earl Jones. So my blind buys are based on confidence of director, cast and knowing what I look for in a film.

      Yeah I'm the same way with directors... I'll definitely pursue their other works if I like what I see in a couple films. I'll have to maybe check out those films you mentioned... @TheOriginalFuzz  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah I have to agree with you on Enter the Ninja. While I don't necessarily think it's awful, it's definitely not nearly up to the same level as Revenge or even Domination. It's certainly the weakest of the 3 by far. Plus they dubbed in a different voice for Franco Nero in Enter because his accent was too thick and they wanted a strong American voice - LMAO!! Revenge is definitely where it's at. Although I do also have fun with Domination. Thanks for watching and chiming in Ryan!

    Thank you, this was interesting and nicely personal list from you. There is one of my top all time movies - Live and Let Die in L.A. I saw it few years after it was released - And I love it. It is both beautiful looking and same time rough movie. It is hard to say, is it a drama, anarchistic movie, nihilistic movie, action movie or comedy... I have seen movie maybe five times during my life and and I´m quite sure that movies is combination of everything I mentioned before. I also liked movies Righting wrongs (my version is from 88 Films), From Beyond (also 88 Films), I got simple dvd-version of The Guest, but I also loved that film. Years ago I also liked a Revenge of the ninja (I´m 80´s teenager) and Blob a lot. Thank you for mentioning the Censor. That is the movie I´m planning the buy from Second Sight. I also would like to see Beekeeper, thank you for your recommendation about it!

      @TheOriginalFuzz  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey thanks so much for watching and commenting. I appreciate that! I was looking at the Second Sight edition of Censor, and it definitely looks like an even better release than the one I have. I noticed the bonus features on the 2nd Sight release are more expansive... you get a making-of doc on the film, which was not included in my version (although I do have the 2-part feature-length doc on the Video Nasties era, and that was pretty interesting to watch). So yeah, I would definitely recommend the 2nd Sight version, just for the bonus features alone.
      I was a teenager in the 80s too, but for whatever reason, never got into a lot of films that others grew up with, like Revenge of the Ninja or the Blob. So it's been a lot of fun discovering these films for the first time all these years later. And yes, you should definitely check out the Beekeeper... such a fun action film!

      @@TheOriginalFuzz Thank you for your thoughtful message, I appreciated it a lot! We seem to be in about same age. First thank you for you comments about Second Sight´s Censor-version. I haven´t seen this movie and after your spoken and written comments, I´m quite excited about it. By the way I live in Finland and funny enough, I was very influenced about the Finnish video censor -activities in our country during the years 1985 - 1999. I think the hysteria was almost at the same level that it was during the days of Video Nasties in England. During that time especially horror movies very heavily cut (to people over 16 years and over) or banned completely in Finland. So movie loving teenagers and young adults started a real hunt for all these horror movies that we couldn´t get our hands on. So paradoxically this Finnish video censor -law really made me an horror movie fan. :) So with all these wonderful restorations (both bluray- and 4K-movies) nowadays, I really live the best times of my life as an movie lover. And yes, Ninja-movies! I should get back with those lovely 80´s movies as soon as possible. Thank you for your great channel!

I bought Goodbye Uncle Tom from Blue Underground. It's an incredible film. It's about slavery. It's an exploitation film that will leave you asking, "How on Earth were they able to film this? How does this exist?!" Exploitation films are especially enjoyable on Blu-ray and on 4K. Instant time machine.
