    This was very helpful. Bought several pieces of Howlite recently. Interested in buying turquoise and know (suspected) that Howlite could easily pass it dyed.

    also u can rub a bit of nail polish remover with acetone in it, and if its fake the blue green color will come off of howlite, revealing the natural white with gray marbling color underneath.

    I found out something recently, while at the Stanford powwow, they use horsehair baked into clay to imitate the webbing of both howlite and turquoise. Fortunately, I came across an honest vendor, that warned me about this practice. She said that if they are selling turquoise, ask for the name of the mine it came from. If it is truly natural turquoise, it should have a certificate that names the artist as well as thr mine it came from.

      @ChrisyBossie  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Unfortunately you're not going to get a certificate from mines for every small piece of turquoise they sell. Alot of the decent turquoise on the market is old stock where they just didn't do that, and even if they had certificates they'd get lost over time. To get a provenance on stones isn't always feasible, financially or otherwise. If you have any doubts that your turquoise is authentic take it to a mineralolgist and have it tested.

    It would be nice if you put together a video showing how OTHER stones/minerals are used to pass off as turquoise.

    I can't still tell the difference. Am I dumb or am I missing something? In my town there isn't a place that I can buy stone beads. So I have to settle for online. But apparently everything is subjective and controversial. It sucks.

    Yes, but not all natural/real turquoise one finds in jewelry has matrix showing in it, right?

    • @ChrisyBossie
      @ChrisyBossie  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Correct. It can be straight turquoise blue but there are a lot of different looks to it depending on where it's mined.

    Same as with Magnasite. Even if the turquoise in bead form is done with turquoise it is still turquoise and might have other turquoise put in with it. It is still turquoise but a cheaper price.
