I can not be more happy to see Musescore just continue to improve over time. It is unreal what you guys have achieved and millions of musicians thank you!
I remember the first time I used Musescore back in 2011 when I was in 8th grade. I was arranging a piece for our middle school band concert and found this free software. To see how far it’s come since then is absolutely amazing! I appreciate you all so much for your efforts! The end result of my scores keep sounding better and better, yes because I’ve learned more in composition, but because Musescore has achieved greater things too! Thank you!!
The improved performance in this update is greatly appreciated, I have noticed that Musescore 4.0 has been quite slow with Muse Sounds enabled, even on good hardware.
I'm so appreciative of MuseScore and the team and community behind it. There's so much needed product innovation within this sphere which has grown stagnant over the past decade, but you're really bringing it back to life and are building something that will truly shine. Great work, and keep it up!

Since I was very young I loved composing music. I'm from a poor background so I couldn't afford instruments or even afford somo or other DAW that would allow me to express myself freely. Musescore has provided me this opportunity. I finally have a very good idea what my composition sounds like when played. I cannot thank the musescore team enough.

I have been searching for a way to notate my harp music more easily and MuseScore popped up - the pedal diagrams look awesome! So so excited to try this out for creating arrangements! 😄
Amazing! The only thing that is missing is a real-time MIDI input/transcription function (like Logic/Cubase/DP, etc). I switched from Finale last year and Musescore is better in every way except MIDI.

I love the amount of customization and accessibility that's been added in the new update. The customizable reverb makes compositions for specific ensembles sound a lot more realistic. Hopefully in the future there can be more musesound instrument soundfont/vsts to make it easier for composing for different genres.

Musescore 4.0 was real pain to use. Stopped using it after trying editing just two songs as frequent crashes and lags made it literally unusable. Was forced to revert back to 3.6. I really hope this new update has addressed those basic concerns. Will come back with an update soon after trying 4.1.
We're sorry to hear you experienced these issues. Addressing the app's performance has been a major focus for us in this new version. So far, we've calculated approx. 60% improvement on the CPU load when using Muse Sounds (compared with v.4.0), so hopefully this makes for a smoother experience all around. A ton of crashes has also been fixed in this release, so we hope it runs better for you and we look forward to your feedback on 4.1!
Nice, but I still can't re-size the window to fit my vertically-oriented monitor. (The pallettes column won't go thinner.) I need the vertical orientation to see all the parts simultaneously, so I'll have to stick to 3.6.2 for now. Maybe 4.2 will allow for better re-sizing.
Although I haven't had much experience with MS4, one thing I struggled with in version 3 was repairing measures that had been scanned by other software and contained errors, particularly errors in the note occupancy of measures. I wanted a way to turn off ALL the rules governing how many notes there are in a measure and just let me set the measure correctly, without new rests and such appearing. This was especially true because some rests appeared to be undeleteable or something. As I would attempt to repair things, they just got worse and worse. Even just deleting these measures and starting over proved difficult because of effects on neighboring measures and such. Quite the struggle.
I believe we are all hoping for the tempo alteration texts to work. Regardless, the reverb option is a huge improvement for us who have an average to below average laptop or PC. Kudos to the team!
I am really struggling to find the setting in MS4.1 which allows a fluid MIDI input, i.e. the notes are entered as I play. The program recognises the keyboard but I am unable to get passed either individual note entry or notes being stacked on top of each other as a chord. I'd be grateful if anyone can tell me what I am missing or where I am going wrong. Thanks :)
@@musescore adaption to the idea of „fingering mode“… what if the left right arrows shift notes horizontally and with up down i can shift through voices (vertically… for example for chords)

Did Pipewire support get added back on Linux? Last I checked (several months after 4.0 release), many modern distros are still stuck on late Musescore 3 without destructive tinkering as this is the last version to have functional support for the audio server the Linux world is moving to.
Been having problems, Started a new comp yesterday and when i saved and closed it , it wouldn’t let me open the file again as apparently its ‘invalid’ and now im locked out of my score

You can use MuseScore 4.1 on Windows, macOS and Linux. The mobile app product is actually an entirely separate product used for reading scores (not writing them).
@musescore Obviously. But musescore 4 SHEETS are still incompatible with the android app. When I upload them, they do NOT appear on the app. So I'm sticking with MC3 until the app is compatible.
when are you guys gonna add the option to choose the sound of an instrument from a soundfont list? it's one of the features i use the most in musescore 3's mixer and its also what's keeping me from moving to musescore 4
Scores made in the MuseScore 4 (Windows, macOS and Linux) can't yet be viewed in the mobile app. The mobile team will have a new version out soon, which fixes this problem. The issue is that the MS4 engraving engine is entirely new and the mobile version is upgrading to support it. Good news is that scores on the mobile reader will look much better!
I have one annoying bug, that seems to persist even in the new version. When creating a new score and I'm in the windows to select key signature, time, tempo, title etc. I can't switch between the different buttons and text fields using the Tab key. Pressing tab only goes from key signature to title to cancel and back to key signature. It's very annoying having to click every single thing with the mouse. I'm using MuseScore on Windows 10 if that is important.
Thanks for your feedback on this. It is in fact a product of our keyboard navigation system, which adopts more of a hierarchical structure that allows you to move very quickly between different areas of the app using TAB before navigating through individual sections using the arrow keys. While it's generally a much faster way of navigating around the score view, I appreciate it can feel unintuitive when considering this the "New score" dialog on its own. We'll continue to collect feedback on this and review our design for a future release. Many thanks for your message!

Not exactly, I'm afraid. It's a known issue that - unless I'm mistaken - can occur when using Muse Sounds. It's certainly something we are going to address though. Thank you for raising it!
Is there any news on when further musesounds libraries may be expected by? such as guitar or drumkit? Even if not, great 4.1 update, 4.0 pretty much revolutionized what I can do with musescore and each update is even better!
Just as an additional note after some messing around, the time to export tracks using musesounds in 4.1 vs 4.0 is greatly improved, which was honestly one of the biggest problems I had with 4.0
Does it actually load up at all on Windows 11? 4.0 stopped loading on Windows 11 at all, and every time someone posted a bug report about it, they were told to "describe the issue more" or "include log files"... except there was nothing else to describe (it just didn't open at all), and the log files indicated that it was a user-initiated close.
For me, MuseScore 4.1 is an excellent update, for one reason and one reason alone: when I click a note in my massive Bolero score, it no longer takes multiple seconds (yes, it actually took multiple seconds to select a note in MS4.0 when your score was large enough). Runs like butter compared to the old version, I love it. Just one question: still no high D-flat for my beloved trombone solo?
So happy to hear it's running better for you now! Thanks for the trombone feedback. Percussion notation is one of our next priorities to improve, but in the future we hope to dive deeper into brass and woodwinds.
I still can't find a metronome count-in feature in Musescore 4.1. This feature has been in version 3 for a long time, so why has it not been implemented in 4.1 ?
The play back count in feature don't seem to have been added yet . It's probably on a to do list. As a work around, you could probably insert a empty bar at the end or if want a section looped so you can practice a difficult section, you can add a empty bar at the end of that section.

I have absolutely zero skill with music and very miniscule interest in composing in the first place. But this app is a shining beacon for open source UI/UX design, and I'm all for it
I've recently noticed some minor problems when using multiple staves for one instrument(not really problems, just things that limit how I want to write), pizz, arco and similar things affect both staves even though I want it to affect one of them, this is also true for instrument changes. I feel like it would be nice if the staves were more like individual instruments so that they could be affected individually.

is it possible to go through the notes with the arrows and apply fingerings with the numbers instead of rhythmical changes (like a fingering mode) ?

It's been implemented for 4.2, for which the release is aimed towards the end of the year.
I transcript exercises and music so I can hear what I'm playing. As a dyslexic, it is a great way to become familiar with what I'm playing faster.

Why you can't press right arrow key after selecting Key signature with TAB?

How do i create ties that connect notes from the end of a measure with the D.S symbol to the measure with the Coda symbol?

I've recently noticed some minor problems when using multiple staves for one instrument(not really problems, just things that limit how I want to write), pizz, arco and similar things affect both staves even though I want it to affect one of them, this is also true for instrument changes. I feel like it would be nice if the staves were more like individual instruments so that they could be affected individually.
when can we expect to import a video into musescore for scoring....?
