    I just want to say sir, your reviews are an absolute pleasure to watch. I have always been a fan of a nice timepiece, but have recently decided to take up horology as a hobby. I have been combing forums and reviews for a Swiss timepiece that is affordable for my budget. The classic looks of the Squale, the price, and quality make it top choice for my baptism into the Swiss watch world. Putting away money for the 30 Atmos GMT starting today. Excellent review, keep them coming.

      Exquisite is how I would describe it. I would like it even a little more if it was a 44 but I love this watch. Allot of that is due to wearing a 50" Suunto Vector for several years. Takes some time to get used to a smaller watch. This thing is beautiful. If squale comes out with a coke (red/black bezel) version of it I'll have to get one

      The only thing I don't like would be the lume. It's just not very good on my watch. If I wake up in the middle of the night it's very hard to see what time it is. Other than that I love this watch. I'm currently researching tritium watches for my everyday watch for this reason.

    Toyed with the idea of buying this for over a year and finally pulled the trigger yesterday (should be here in a few days). For me, the appeal of this one is it, in my opinion, being a TRUE all-round traveler's watch. I definitely wanted a GMT one day, but also wanted the option of being able to dive with it if I went on a boat / scuba trip while away. It blew my mind that higher-end offerings like the GMT Master II and Explorer II were limited to 100M resistance. As far as my research goes, this is the ONLY GMT I could find that had the versatility of a diver with the GMT function. (please correct me if I've missed anything). I'm not a fan of the Rolex style hands mind you, but other than that the bang per buck of this thing can't be denied. I guess now the GMT box is filled I can concentrate on looking for something higher end (Speedy come's to mind) without having to worry about it's water resistance. Awesome vid as always. Been watching you for a few years now.

      In addition, the Squale gmt also have anti-reflective and done correct because it's only in the inside. I wish they also make a new ceramic divers in this case and in ceramic as well

      HADES Christopher Ward C60 GMT 600, in 38 or 43 mils, comes as strong competition here if you want GMT+true diving capabilities (60 atmo) and more of its own style, at similar price point.

      hervé Chretien Nice, love the look of that CW. May be one for a future purchase. Not a fan of the polished center links, but it doesn't have the ugly (imo) cyclops, plus the original design, which more than makes up for it!

    I know this video is a bit old, but I just wanted to say that I now own one of these GMTs (though at a bit of a steeper price now that they're out of production), and I love it. I have a larger wrist (7.5" - 8"), and as such the steel bracelet fits either a bit too tight, or a bit too loose. So, naturally I have installed a NATO strap and all is classy. Great video, and thank you for putting this on my radar.

    I know this is an older video but I just purchased the Squale 30 Atmos Alpine GMT Ceramica which is a Gnomon exclusive. It’s basically the exact watch in this review with the exclusion of the cyclops, different handset and brilliant green sunburst dial with yellow GMT hand and font. Great review as always TGV.

    TGV need I say you ALWAYS do a super review, THANK YOU!! I heard Squale and drawback in the same sentence and am shocked!! :) I do like the GMT however my only drawback is the dial indices..seems a bit cartoonish to me, just my thoughts..I wonder if there are other dial options for the GMT..other than that this watch has everything! I sadly paid almost $600 for a Citizen Navihawk all in all a great watch however a Squale for only a $100 or so more?? wow!

    I was going to purchase a Steinhart gmt but when I saw this video, well lets say I changed my mine, and what changed my mind was the ceramic bezel on the Squale is much better than on the Steinhart, especially because the Squale bezle is ingraved and painted much like the Rolex sub. I will be picking up this watch soon but first in line in Steinhart ocean 1 vintage red, I just love the look. Great review as always.

    Very impressive Squale GMT though for me it strongly echos a copy of the Rolex GMT. This is why I am hesitant in pulling the trigger on this one. What do you think of the military style Memphis Belle 50 ATM helium escape time piece?

    Hello! Really loved your review for the watch. I'm looking to buy my first watch, and I was wondering what would you recommend getting for the most bang for my buck? I like the price ranges for the Squale 1545 collection. I really liked their new ceramic Bezel watch that you just reviewed, but is it worth spending the extra $200 for it, or would the Herritage be just fine? Also, since their 1521 collection is a bit more expensive than their 1545 collection, is it considerably better? Please let me know. Thank you so much!

    The GMT hand is a bit off. This seems to be a recurring problem with watches having the ETA 2893-2 movements. I'm thinking of the watch forums concerning the Steinhart Ocean Vintage GMT... Thoughts? Love your videos, by the way.

    Hi TGV, First comment on a video since our 'comment conversation'. Squale seem to be a well made watch and at a price point that would not scare many of us off. The ceramic bezel, fitting nicely into the current trend of ceramics. I think for me, would look great on the bracelet(I'm a bracelet guy) or a good quality silicon strap. Tasty!!

      Stuart Lomas Hi Stuart,
      Welcome to the channel. yessss a quality rubber strap would look great with this, tasty indeed.
      Thank you for the comment, very appreciated.

      The Urban Gentry Hi TGV, Very nice Aeroplanes. Never flown a Taildragger (plane with a rear wheel if you did not know that term) something I will have to try, different take off skill and of course the pilot can'e see over the nose. Good to hear from you.

    • @theurbangentry
      @theurbangentry  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stuart Lomas Fascinating, I was just wondering how on earth the pilot would see forwards! Thank you.
      I am quite ignorant of the terminology, I must say, I am very envious of your knowledge, I feel I could pick your brains about these beautiful machines for hours. I must learn this stuff, so little time!
      I see it purely from an artistic perspective, I just love the lines you see, anyways, I must not pester you about such things, thanks for the feedback!

    • @StuartLomas
      @StuartLomas 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Urban Gentry The pilot has to swerve from side ti side occasionally to see where they are going, tricky stuff. Long live the Spitfire & Hurricane boys?

    @mlinder2000 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Everyone wants to complain about a 42" diameter watch but frankly watch diameters have been growing for years and as someone who has an 8" wrist I wish there were more 44 or maybe 45"sub homage watches available. The Squale GMT would be my next watch but I'm probably going to get the 44"Steinhart Ocean instead. Just a better fit for me. After having worn a 50"Suunto Vector for the last couple years anything will take some getting used to. Great video as always!

    Dear TGV
    I love your channel and really enjoy your well done content. Your ongoing enthusiasm for the Squale brand and this video in particular convinced me to order a Squale 30 ATMOS Ceramica. As part of this process I have some new information your viewers might find helpful that was not in your original video(s).
    First, I have to admit, if I hadn't had a problem with the watch, I would never have opened the user guide and found this information. But I did, and through this process discovered:
    A) That the manual is generic to all Squale watches, and has no content or instructions whatsoever regarding the GMT (it only covers the standard auto and chrono watches). You can reach out to your dealer for a PDF of the instruction page, and eventually the manual will be updated, so no big deal.
    B) That the Squale “International Warranty” specifies that all service and support for you watch comes solely through the dealer or distributer you bought it through. Don’t expect any meaningful support from any other dealer/distributer or Squale itself. If you bought it traveling and have issues at home you’ll have to reach or ship back to wherever you bought it. If you bought it at home and have issues traveling you have to reach or ship back home where you bought it. If the dealer or distributer decides to drop Squale or goes out of business, you have no easy way to get any service or support. I’ve confirmed this by reaching out to a different distributer and Squale themselves, only to be pushed back to the original dealer (even for answers to general questions not specific to my particular watches issue). FWIW, Squale USA is not Squale itself but the US distributer. I feel this is very important important to any potential Squale customer. If I had known this, it would have prevented me from considering any Squale product but this information does not seem to be available on line or in your reviews and is only available in the manual you get with Squale a product you already bought.
    The defect with the watch I received was that is was not hacking. So it either did not have the specified movement in it or a defective movement slipped through Squales quality control. Such an obvious defect should not have slipped through but such things sometimes happen. I’ve never seen this failure mode on a hacking movement though.
    The only other issue I had, was with the cyclops implementation. The magnification was so high and the glare so bad in normal daylight that the date was almost always completely illegible. I had to work really hard to get perfectly soft lighting to make the date as clear and nice as it was in your review. Not sure if Squale changed something or if you just happened to have ideal lighting to avoid this issue.
    I’m still going through the return process so I’ll let you know if I learn anything else. I hope you and your viewers find this useful.
    Regards

    TGV, I always enjoy your shows. I have a Baume & Mercier Classima and i am looking for a sports watch to add to my collection. For years i had the Breitling Superocean A17045 with a blue Dial. I grew tired of it and sold it last year. Now i am considering either the Squale 1521 with a blue Dial or the Squale GMT 1545 that you review here. Which of the two would you recommend for an all round sports watch? My wrist size can bare both I think. Thanks and keep up the good work.

    I really cannot get over those beads.... it almost called my attention more than the watch.... which by the way is a beautiful watch. At first I believed it to be a homage to a GMT master II but in reality is its own thing. Funny how I have a that same Zulu with a Seiko SKX007J. Hey I recently acquired a Vostok Amphibia on a blue dial, I swapped the bezel for a aluminum insert on blue and a blue/white/blue nato. it looks gorgeous. I mainly got it because of the history of the watch. Have you seen those? what are your thoughts? Great video as always TGV.

    Hi TGV, great review! Gorgeous piece! Wanted to ask if you know the weight of the GMT? with and without bracelet? Might be because it's so new but I couldn't find that online. That might be a small way to improve future reviews too, especially if weight is a big drawback. I thought the dial was blue but looking at it closely now it looks black, hard to tell in the light. Looking forward to your future reviews too. Best, David.

    It's a nice looking watch, but I think the most important thing to take away from this particular piece is the ceramic bezel. I think they did a nice job with it and I would be very excited if they introduced it into some of their other models; mainly the 1521 black pvd...

    Thanks so much for the review. I'm going to look into getting one of these.I'd like to ask you, where did you get the military green Zulu strap from? it looks like it is thick. I've had trouble finding a site where they have thick Zulu straps with a high thread count. I ordered a couple and they are very flimsy. But I have one that I got as a gift from a seller in japan and it is very thick.

      +hdp82 You are very welcome. The Zulu strap is from a seller form the UK. I bought it yolks ago and I don't recall the name or store unfortunately. Best of luck, thank you for watching,

    I agree with your assessment on the GMT, it needs scratches. Wearing it as a beater watch for a couple of weeks should do it. 42mm wears nicely on my wrist. I am keeping it in my sight, or another squale, for a future purchase. Keep up the good work. I am a subscriber.

    Hi TGV. Yes! I love the look of these watches. I had a question and you are the man to ask. :) I have a mid-sized Omega Seamaster as well and have it on the bracelet.I am about 5' 7". You note that the bracelet was a little heavy (Sorry if I am misquoting you) so you have 1521 on the NATO strap. Does that apply for the 1545 or are you more comfortable with the 1545 on the original bracelet. The heritage looks great... though I seem to be drawn to the "Root Beer" one. :)

    • @theurbangentry
      @theurbangentry  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bagpiper California Hi, Actually, If I recall correctly I was referring to the new 1545 GMT (at 42mm) being very heavy with its bracelet. The 1521 is fine, as is all the other 1545. I tend to wear Nato straps as I love the look of them, they are super comfy, much lighter (obviously) and the ability to change colours etc is always fun. Plus I like the security of know if one of the spring bars fail it is still attached. If you are worried the Root Beer is going to be too heavy, please don't worry, I simply meant the GMT version. Hope that helps and please keep me posted on how you get on.
      The 1545 are great, well as you would expect!
      Thank you for watching and supporting the channel
      Best regards,

    I love the style of the Rolex GMT and I'd like to wear it every day, it's a sports watch after all. But at Rolex's prices and my daily routine (I ride a bike every day, 12 months a year) that would be a serious hazard. This Squale provides an acceptable alternative at what seems like a above market value to put it mildly. Some argue the value on resale is excellent for Rolex but simply hitting break even is not good enough for me, certainly not with the markets performing as well as they have in the long term. Don't get me wrong I do spend unacceptable sums on my sports car but I have to draw the line somewhere. We all have to have a balance in life. I've ordered this watch from Gnomonwatches it should be arriving in a day or two. I look forward to having a watch with some excellent lume for once. I plan to wear it on Bulag & Sons leather NATO. Thanks for making this excellent video.

    • @jaime4022
      @jaime4022 9 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Werner-my thoughts exactly! The answer, I guess it is that they were just trying to copy the GMT. If only they had decided to do this GMT based on their 50 at is case, different hands, and no cyclops, they would really have something truly. I think all these homages they make just devalue the brand.

    Hey TGV one question I would have is how would this Ceramica Squale compare to the Christopher Ward Trident C60 GMT? Have you seen that one in person? I am really curious because the Trident C60 looks like a beast with a deeper diving depth, better stainless steel with 916L, a diving/gmt bezel in one, and a 3D dial. I would love to hear your imput on that since by the pictures, it looks amazing!

      Nshan Muradyan Hi Nshan,
      Excellent question and I would LOVE to get my hands on the CWard GMT to compare it. I have in fact talked about it in various episodes of WWT (just check the archives) but I certainly will keep an eye out.
      Maybe I should reach out to CWard and see what they say? What do you think?
      Thanks for watching,

    • @rxliftz
      @rxliftz 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the reply! I think that would be great if you get the chance to review that watch. It looks one heck of a watch! I love the hybrid Dive/GMT bezel. Sorry one thing I noticed is that it does have the 316L steel instead of the 916L. Which is still great. I still do not know why Rolex chooses to use the 916L steel since they have the same hardness, and it just has more Nickel in it. One thing I would really be curious about is the performance of the watch and how well it keeps time. If it's really accurate I will purchase one. It is a new company! My search for the best $1k watch continues! Keep up the great work TGV and can't wait for your next watch review!

    Squale is coming back in a fierce way. These watches are a pleasure to own.
    I missed the Batman release which was just beautiful. However I’m still a doubter on GMT divers just to remind one the time at home. Otherwise a stunning piece.
    For basic diving under 100m it just seems more prudent to use a very good quartz. So many hate quartz, but they really are for using and having no issues. Plus if they are damaged you don’t stress as much.
    Coral and other gear tend to scratch the watch with ease.
    However, go Squale.

      Simon Crane recently got an SKX007 (I think). There are certainly less expensive watches that seem to have long-lasting and wide appeal, even to folks acclimated to more expensive pieces. I think the SKX series as a whole is in that category.
