It's a key point that he mentions his ACL injury and how fortunate the timing of it was. Injuries are rampant in MMA (and all sports), many fighters on the rise have been derailed by them, while the fans have no idea.
GSP's acknowledgement of the stars aligning is probably why he decided to retire when he did, which was excellent timing.

@@bobbye4731luck is when preparation meets opportunity. If you haven’t prepared, all the “luck” in the world will only be opportunities you cannot capitalize on.
So calling it luck is worthless, because realistically all it actually is is incredible opportunities. And if these guys we’re properly prepared for that opportunity, then they become famous, and bitches like you will call all their hard work “luck” for the rest of time.

Your a legend GSP for not saying it's only my hard work that did it cause it's not .. khabib kinda puts it the same way , except that instead of luck he considers it blessing from god ... You always need that little bit of luck or that blessing to make it to the top or even to achieve some level of success that is uncommon ..

Like George said only in other words: the path was opened for me, I was lucky. You should think about this.

I think what he means is, the other guys that didn't make it, they work just as hard, but they just had different paths. Sure some didn't work as hard as him. But there are many who work just as hard and we're in the wrong era so didn't make any money or never got the opportunity.

My understanding is that, top UFC fighters get paid much less than boxers but, the lower tier fighters on UFC contracts get paid much more then lower tier fighters in other sports, to ensure a future crop.
They also pay 'feeder' organizations. If you see any clips from smaller organizations you'll most likely see the 'UFC fightpass' banner on the canvas. I would hope, some of this money they pay to have content on their streaming service, gets to the up and coming fighters.
I think the UFC operates much more like a league rather then just a fight promoter.

This is why GSP is one a Hall of Famer. One of the most intelligent fighter who can control the fight like what he wanted to. More like Khabib. Very clever on & off the cage.
Actually he is totally right no wonder some of the athlete tried to balance their passion even they are at the top they are still doing their studies. Perfect example is the Portuguese MotoGP rider Miguel Oliveira who has finished his course & actually licensed Dentist at the moment. Although he can practice it because he is trying to compete at the top level. That goes to show that it's possible. Also the former MotoGP rider Karel Abraham who has finished Law School as a business Atty.

    i once met georges at an airport in montreal in like 2004 i was 14 or maybe 2005 and i was 15, we were all standing in line and i just lift my heads up and on the next row behind me, there he was, tha baddest man on the planet, im 31 years old now and ill always remember that moment, i was a little fuck and i asked my father out loud;
HEY DAD! IS THAT HIM??! IS THAT GEORGE ST PIERRE?!?!? my brother went nuts hes 2 yeasr older than me and he couldnt believe it so my father looks him straight into his eyes and georges knew hed have to sign autographs and shit, back in the day no one knew who gsp was in canada, my father said yes, yes son thats him, we had the conversatipon in french and george understood every single words, my father said; please dont bother him, youve already made everyone aware that hes in the airport so just leave him be.
14 years old and i was in freakin awe and i listen to my father, i was just shooked, georges just smiled at me and my brother and shook our hands (and the 100+ people after me who werent as respectful), hes just such a great human being.
looking back i wished my eyes didnt catched him in the waiting line because no one else knew he was there or who he was before i screamed like a 14 years old lmao.

Olivera would have lost over 2 million on the PPV portion of his contract if Dana had not agreed to overlook that he was not technically champ.
So I think the champ still gets PPV points.

GSP will always be number one in my opinion, but fighter pay is like anything when you get a job you accept a salary or rate of pay, in UFC you sign a fight deal, win loose ect, its on the individual to make that deal and dont complain about it after fact , go out there and win make a statement get what you deserve or just shut up and accept it

Many people like to compare ufc pay to nba or nfl pay. But lets be honest, i would say theres alot of over pay in sports. I think these guys deserve good pay for sure but i kinda agree with the idea that the biggest stars and biggest draws deserve more money than the rest

no matter of how good fighter you are, you have to stand out like big time. You either have to be Conor Mcgregor or you fight good asf and not boring and have a characteristic/personality.

bunch of crap. gsp, khabib, jon jones all are huge stars and multi milioners because they was great fighters. look at bisping lost his eye and didnt get rewarded for it and he was never in a boring fight. same with tony ferguson who have huge personality but nobody gives a fuck about him. conor was great fighter coming up and now he is washed up

@@assassin7250 agreed....you need to have the 'it' factor or 'star' quality about your personality to stand out in order to attract the casuals, other celebrities and for the UFC to care about you. Being a journeymen or just another cookie cutter fighter won't get you paid fairly by the UFC brass.

  • @ronp6009

GSP is full of it on this topic. Fighters will never advance as long as fighters like GSP don't tell exactly how much they made. he talks vaguely about pay but he can easily state exactly how many millions he made on the Bisping fight. But evcen here when the door was opened he sidestepped away from disclosure.
