Rain & gales for parts of NZ, we break it down for you

  • A complicated system moves into NZ this week bringing pockets of severe weather thanks, in part, to two power high pressure zones in the mix too. They will all work together to produce some heavy rain in both main islands (but it’s broken up) along with windy northerlies which will become sub-tropical and milder over the next 48 hours.
We take a look at what is driving this weather, the areas most inline for heavy rain and wind and when it clears away.
We’ll update this again on Tuesday as we fine tune the data further.

Phil continues to nail it with an matchable mix of data, expertise, science and personality: No matter the weather, there's ALWAYS good entertainment value from the man who's found his niche in life !!!

Thank you for the update. I think you need to give low a break, he's being squashed, hopefully like a full sponge. Lets wait and see what happens. Take care and wait patiently.

W - A - Y better than any TV weather report where presenters must speak machine-gun fast to get everything in as well as inserting their own "witticisms" into the mix.

Hi Phil, met service warning of up to 800mm for parts of the west coast south Island, in land 200- 300 in the mountains, thats a lot of water on a dry parched landscape.

So I'm confused. Auckland is apparently in for 30mm of rain - yet the rain colourings over us seem quite light? Is this just a symptom of the low not being totally locked in yet?

As an outdoor instructor here in New Zealand - you're the best weather forecaster, in my opinion! Thanks for the info. Keep the good educational nuggets coming!
