Tamiya Rising Storm - RPM Up and Gear Ratio Down | Tamiya DF-02 Collection Test Run Part 2

  • Second GPS Speed Test, Comparison and Test Run of my 2023 Tamiya DF-02 RC Car Collection (or Madness?). Here's my old 'bling-blinged' 2004 Tamiya Rising Storm Assembly Kit 58334 ... with a few (silly) upgrades.
    Last year the car felt too heavy, clumsy and too slow in acceleration with the LRP standard "silver can" coupled with the highest gearing (22T pinion and 67T spur). So without a need to add more power (voltage) to the fragile DF-02 chassis, an alternative medicine-injection could be to gear it down or increase the motor's RPM. Or do both.
    This video was recorded in the dry spring of 2023. It's late summer now and Denmark is green again.
    Full specifications and list of parts, electronics and upgrades down below!

    Goddag again, Mikael! Great improvement, I'm loving the LRP motors at the minute, coincidence that we both just uploaded videos featuring LRP! Looks like just the right amount of power for this DF02. A little bouncy at the rear though, methinks! Great video as ever, take care, mate! 😎💙👍

      Goddag igen, Mark my mate! Ha ha, yeah, I know you do. They saved your day. Great motors. And yeah, not too slow and not too fast (don’t want anything faster with this chassis and all that alloy). But yes, GPM shocks. Too hard. But don’t want to mess too much with it since I got the others with better shocks. This set up runs good on road though. Best wishes my friend

    First you showed me how epic the DT 02/03 were. Now this!

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ahh, the DT´s sure are epic! Not too sure about the DF-02. It's more like a TT-02B with a lot of mistakes :-) But non the less I have fun with them. The DF-02 and DT-02 were my first Tamiya buggies, getting back into the hobby again as an adult.

      Thanks bro! Missed RC’ing! But a long rainy summer with three kids and then getting back to work took all my time. But hopefully back for good now ☺️

    Nice speed improvement, but why do Tamiya makes some of there cars slow. I have been working on a Baja King slow at the best of times but it has Tamiya plastic cancer. The shock mounts have gone but fixed fingers crossed, but they are part of the chassis.

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Mal! Yeah, I think they make these entry-level cars to suit kids and beginners. Especially Japanese. Us old people buying them is just a bonus I think. And yeah, on the DF-02 the suspension mounts are part of the chassis. What a pain 😅

      @BasBoyRC ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NordicRC All In one mounts are a pain, the TL01B really needs a new chassis.

    Great improvement on the speed, Mikael, and welcome back to TH-cam, a joy to watch one of your videos again!
    In case you missed it, the whole RC community has gone crazy on TT-02 speed challenge this year, Poorboys RC got us all tricked into driving Tamiya TT-class cars as fast as we possibly can, it's crazy! It runs until end of September, so you can still join if you feel like.

      Hi Mads! Uhh, somehow your comment escaped me. But I'll say this: Thank you so much for the long lasting support. Wish I had more time for the community. But well, kids, house, work ... well, you know how it is. Uhh, yeah, been watching a few of those runs. Would love to get on board but spare time is so rare, and right now my TT-02 and TT-01 are bone-stock, so it would require lots of time with bearings, turnbuckles, gear ratios etc. Must watch some of your runs instead though :-) But well, the idea sounds a bit stressful too. Trying to keep a touring car TT-02/01 going straight with 50-60 kph and above :-)

    Hello. Great video! Are you satisfy with the GPM dampers ? Are they really an improvement compared to the original ones... compared to the 3racing ones ? (beside the looks😊)

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! No, both the GPM and 3Racing shocks are set up too hard. I got the 3Racing to work on a DT-02/03, but needed new oil, o-rings, springs, spring containers.

    LRP stuff is pretty sweet, looks like a monster ESC you've got in there ready for a smoking motor :) Or maybe it's a good thing for driving in the grass without a meltdown...

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, too bad they aren't around anymore. Love this ESC. If I remember correcly it's a 120A. So yes, will certainly handle all high RPM brushed motors :-)

    Hi there Mikael, the DF-02 madness is looking great. 27mph is very respectable speed. Great electronics too and it looked very stable 😊best wishes to you and the family 😊😊

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi John! Yeah, around 40 kph is where it feels neither fast but not slow. It’s a good speed. Very stable and very fragile indeed ☺️ Best wishes to you and your right back my good friend
