    Nice job. Yeah beer can cold might have been the method of 20 years ago, but not today. Units have much tighter tolerances. I've always used superheat or subcooling methods even though I have analog gauges. May take longer, but I get them dialed in. At one time I worked for a franchise owner of McDonald's stores he wanted them beer can cold. I told him you never change a unit that way. Long story short I did 3 stores his way, and 4 stores my way. When it hit 117°F. All ac at the three stores quit working. Mine ran fine. He called me in a panic about the 3 stores, and I reminded him I charged those stores his beer can way. I asked him about the other 4 stores and he said their ac is wonderful. I reminded him about our bet of $500. He told me go ahead and do the other stores my way. Went through the 3 stores and set the proper charges. All were over charged. When I got back to the office that day. There was a note apologized for not letting me do my job and a check for $500.

      George W sweet. I loved handing turds to the ones who earn it. I had an electrical engineer stand over me and tell me what to do. I put my tool bag on top of the unit and told him they were for rent. Apparently you know how to fix it you just need the tools. He stepped back at that point. I said if you want to ask questions please do but don’t tell me how to do my job. If you knew how to fix it I wouldn’t be here now. His run cap was bad lol an electrical part.

    Stop beer can cold first heat pumps Coleman came out 1977. Charge with temp probes by superheat, on cap tubes and sub-cooling on txv which not many had them back then.Also Lennox had approach method they used with tube on LL.

    I got burnt a couple times coil cleaning a couple condensers, contacts at compressor got a little water or the disconnect was near the bottom and water got in, let dry for 30 push in disconnect or started unit pop! so cover everything electrical disconnect & compressor lugs/condenser molex with a dry rag and cover with a plastic bag. know that's way too much but coving my back side. appreciate the video have a cool one.

    as long as it in the 70 to 78 range on the low side it will be ok head can be from 220 to 280 and be ok as well cause the indoor could be dirty and as well as out door full of salt are corrosion so beer can method does work in bad conditions and does not relly matter if unit is on last leg its going to go out any way in a year are so

    • @TandNServices
      @TandNServices  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Beer can cold does not work and here's why. Let's say the unit has a dirty outdoor coil and is low on freon. The dirty outdoor coil will hide the fact that the unit is low and your line will be cold. You will also find by checking super heat and sub cooling you will find other problems such as a dirty indoor coil. If your not checking superheat and su cooling and the indoor coil is dirty and you try to set the charge to 70- 78 you will extremely over charge the unit. You can't walk up to a unit believing it's going to die next year so I really don't have to check it properly. That's insane

      Robert Coonrod I was standing on a platform working on a box cooler for the controls of a 55 gallon drum stamper. It was punching the lids. The noise was unbelievable and the platform was bouncing up and down about an inch. I was trying to weld a leak at the time. Yes the dog was annoying but not so much lol.

      On this unit the indoor temp was really high, at 8 to 12 degrees superheat the unit would have been overcharged. This unit had a piston in it not a TXV. Invest in a slide rule that will give you super heat according to indoor temperatures and humidity.

    • @robertcherry4971
      @robertcherry4971 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That would be for a txv and evaporator super heat.He was charging to total superheat and it has a piston do the super heat could be 5-25 depending on his conditions inside wet bulb and outdoor temp.

  • @haljordan9160
    @haljordan9160 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great vid! I seem to find myself REMOVING refrigerant alot considering (it seems) that installers think that firing up a change - out forget about the whole "above 80*/who cares what meter" specialty routine. TXV systems are charged by s/c but TESTED by s/h. Piston/cap metering is charged by evap W/B & entering cond D/B via S/H calc.

    When you wash down the condenser coil like that, make sure you inform the homeowner that you are doing that, especially if they have a dog. Sometimes they will take a quick drink. Unless you want to stop it barking permanently.
