I love the reward system you created! So many people live like hermits, doing nothing, having no fun and even limiting their diets just to pay off their loans fast. Your approach is so much more realistic and proves you can still have a life and deal with your debts.
You are doing a great service with your videos on budgeting and it looks like it is paying off, not only in reducing your debt but increasing your subscriber count and expanding your influence. I only discovered you from your “I’m broke” video and I’m so glad I did. Love your variety of content and your authenticity. 👍🏼 🌻
Why don't you look for photographers at local colleges looking to do creatives to save money on the photographer. Being on your insta could provide them with great publicity to build their future business.
Hi Mia, I know you mean well, so don’t take this as me being angry of something. coming from a creative industry, we get asked to work for publicity A LOT. Unfortunately publicity doesn’t pay our rent, and most of the time it doesn’t give us a lot of new projects to work on/people to work with. However, when you want to hire a photographer that is still in school, you don’t HAVE to pay full price because obv the haven’t graduated yet. So in that way you CAN save money, just don’t expect to get it for free :)
Thank you for being so transparent and open on TH-cam. Often times a lot of other TH-camrs use their content as a way to flaunt or create an idea of how fancy their life is. It’s refreshing to see someone who is real and similar to their viewers who don’t have the huge salary.
I’m so motivated by you and your budgeting. I just got paid today and by this video I can figure things out and feel motivated. I’m the same way about having things over my head like my 55k student loans. I’m also doing the snow ball. Although I don’t buy clothes or things like I used to since doing it I’ll get to be soooo happy in the end. Thank you and for everyone else WE CAN DO THIS WE GOT THIS!!!
YOU CAN DO IT AJA! You are boss woman, ambitious, & woman with intention. When you put your mind to it, you can do anything. Your circumstances & situations aren’t what makes you, you are in charge of them! Much love to you Aja plus the puppers & Brian on this journey💕
I really appreciate your transparency on paying off debt. I probably wouldn't have learned of the snowball method if I didn't randomly come across your video. But I did and I'm now two months from paying off my student loans and then I'll tackle my credit card debt. Hoping to have one card paid off by the end of the year and the other two cards within two years. I can't wait to be debt free
I love how straight forward and informative this video is! I also appreciate how real you are with your budget, no fancy lists or editing - just a spreadsheet and real numbers. I’ll be starting to pay off my student loans at the end of the year, and it’s never to early to start preparing. Thank you! ✨
I began my budgeting journey about the same time as you and watching these videos has been such a great help because I feel like I'm doing it with a friend. Thank you so much for being transparent and real. Cheers to a debt free future!
This series is actually so helpful and it motivates me every two weeks to stay with my own goal. Please continue to do these, because I feel like this year will be my best financial year so far. Also, can't wait to see your video on travelling hacks! Have a great day xxx
What an inspirational powerhouse you are!!!! To have this kind of discipline at such a young age is amazing! I am so proud of you! I love how transparent and candid you are about your income and debt. I don't have student loans but staggering medical bill debt. I've been working hard to get it in order but a lot of time I just feel overwhelmed. Your smiling face gives me the motivation and confidence that I can do this! Thank you Aja!
Honestly this is SO important what youre doing here bc my friend had to put school on hold bc she couldnt pay back her loan and wanted to transfer but she cant transfer bc she owes its a mess. Im so thankful that I went to city school and accrued no debt but its REAL out here. Student loan debt is incredible and lots of people don't even use their BA's their job has nothing to do with what they went to school for. And you feel trapped and don't know how to overcome it. I wish kids going into highschool could see this and try to figure out going to school with the least amount of debt.
I home cook my dogs food. You control every ingredient and know exactly what your dog is consuming. I cook a variety of carrots, broccoli, chicken or duck or an egg for protein, and sometimes steamed kale/spinach. It's basically like a meal prep meal but for my dog.
A tip for how at the end you said you feel like your missing something in your budget: You should make a list of every single thing you spend money all year, from monthly rent to subscription services to annual dues for anything and also write down when they're due, whether its something you pay for monthly or weekly or annually etc. Not only does this keep you from forgetting about a payment, but it also lets you see everything you're paying for so if you decide you want to cut things out it's a lot easier to see it visually.
It is so important for people in the public eye to not just "flex" but also show how you should do things responsibly! I think there are a lot of misconceptions about what "normal" is these days. The truth is we're all just figuring it out!
YES THANK YOU. AJA you for real be saving me from in to OUT. saving me from skincare to finance youre the realest and I feel like youre an acutal person unlike 70% of youtubers!!love you!
Aja i love this budget series! For me my brother introduced me to dave ramsey right out of high school and I've learn to cash flow a lot of things since. The biggest budget goal i have is to move out on my own in a few month and watching your vidoes is giving me a lot of motivation :) Thank you and you can do it!
I LOVE your budget videos! After your first one in January, I decided to create my own budget spreadsheet and it has helped me so much with budgeting in 2018 so far. It's making me feel more intention on where I'm allocating my income and becoming more realistic with the numbers I set out. Thank you for sharing! :)
You could totally cook your dogs food without it being so time consuming! We do it with ours because we don't trust the industry either. We give her leftovers (fruits and veggies) and we cook her some rice with protein (chicken, eggs or whatever we have). You can cook enough rice with protein for a week and put it in the freezer. then you can warm it up before you feed her. Good luck!!
Aja maybe if you made it so it read down (so not 2 columns) it may make more sense to you (it's hard for me to read the separate columns - it's not how my brain thinks. Also, for your dogs - great, less work way to cook their food is to get chicken breast from the market and put them in foil in your oven on 350 for about 75 minutes. Then you can blend it all (it shreds it in my vitamix). Then just steam some green veggies, steam them and then freeze the excess and you have food for the week! Love your budget inspiration. Thank you for being so real!
Thank u for the update! These videos really motivate me to budget and save more. I do prefer it when you break it down on your notebook, because theres some visual aid!
This is great, thanks Aja ☺ after doing my taxes, I realized most was going to interest. I'm going to try and give more to lower the amount and interest.
Aja, have you thought about just feeding raw to your dogs? We give raw to our dog plus simple veggies like broccoli and carrots. Its quite easy and no hassle. Also, i love excel. I just do a data dump of my bank statement (no manipulation) to excel where i created data validation list for the budget categories. Super easy! one tab has a pivot which shows ytd actuals that you simply right click and refresh. The budget tab shows my budget by category and next to it, i pull in actuals to compare. I already worked in a drop down so you can chose the month you want to look at and all the formulas will do the work for you!
Hey Aja, could you create a tutorial on how you made your spreadsheet budget? I have a basic spreadsheet budget--but your budget is more detailed! Have A Great Day! -R
I love your videos Aja! I can’t ever seem to stick to a budget, but your videos inspire me to do so. I’m writing this as my spending app sits at -$183 because I charge everything to my credit card. And like you, I feel the need to pay off my credit card/what I can afford each month! So that’s a start. Lol
I'm so glad you labeled going out to eat at as 'dining out' when most people say 'eating out' lol. I say the same thing! I also find this video refreshing, as I owe +$240k in student loans myself. The idea of paying it off is very intimidating, but I'm going full force! I love your reward system!!!! Going to come up with something similar for myself 😃
Thank you for these useful and inspiring videos!! Ive got loans to pay off but your recent videos has helped me so much to get myself together back on track!
You should look for a local college student to take your photos! Lots of great talent on campuses and you can pay them a fraction of the price of a real pro. It would also help them out with building a portfolio!
I've commented it before but YNAB!! and I love the post-its idea!! I might try that. I'm trying to pay off my smallest student loan out of the 66k i owe (fml) which is only about 6k, so I might use the post it for that one. Thanks for keeping it real :)
I would love to see a video on homemade dog food. I asked my vet about this and she told me that by the time I supplement the food with the necessary vitamins etc, it would cost the same as buying a bag of good food in store? I didn’t look too far into it but I’m curious. My dog’s food is expensive!
So happy I found you! I’m rooting for you and your financial freedom. I Just transferred my law school loans from nelnet to MyFedLoan... I’m currently on the 10 year forgiveness plan....3 years in and have to stay non profit/government!!they are just so daunting... LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOO
Use the EveryDollar app. It’s the easiest to track use and keep up. We have a variable income and it works fine. It takes a couple of months to get used to it but it works. Some of my friends use the Mint app and like it
Congrats on NO CAR PAYMENTS! I also recommend Dave Ramsey's EveryDollar budgeting tool that you can access on the web or on an app. It's very user friendly!
Girl I feel you on the student loan debt.. I have about 50k right now and it’s daunting. Can you do a video on what you do for work? I know you said you freelance but what is it that you do exactly?
I love you for sharing this and inspiring me to get my ish together too! I haven't caught up on your other budgeting videos, but are you trying to pay stuff off first vs. saving for an "emergency" stash? I'm conflicted if I should pay off a couple bills vs. keeping it in my savings....what would you do? And have you done any research about investing?
I love the reward system you created! So many people live like hermits, doing nothing, having no fun and even limiting their diets just to pay off their loans fast. Your approach is so much more realistic and proves you can still have a life and deal with your debts.

she said to save money, not get for free
Aja Dang my boyfriend is a professional photographer who is still in school! I'll DM you more details on instagram if that's okay with you! :)
Love how candid you always are about your budget! ❤ These videos are so informative.
When you said the price of your ticket!! 😳 can't wait for your next video

Love, love your post-it idea! It's just like a to-do list, but visually-stimulating and much more satisfying than crossing something off your list.
I began my budgeting journey about the same time as you and watching these videos has been such a great help because I feel like I'm doing it with a friend. Thank you so much for being transparent and real. Cheers to a debt free future!
Love this series!! Also it reminds me it's that time to budget again.

these are my favorite videos of any youtuber! Thank you for sharing this intimate look at your finances. it's so motivating

I agree. Budget videos without real numbers aren’t as effective. Keep up the great work!
It is so important for people in the public eye to not just "flex" but also show how you should do things responsibly! I think there are a lot of misconceptions about what "normal" is these days. The truth is we're all just figuring it out!

This is great, thanks Aja ☺ after doing my taxes, I realized most was going to interest. I'm going to try and give more to lower the amount and interest.
Absolutely love 💕 these budget videos!!! They are so aspiring!!
Wish more YT would do this instead of doing all the hauls and make up videos etc.
I love this series! I subscribed because of it and I have no regrets! I'm looking forward to your traveling on a dime video!!! AHHHHH!! :)
love the incentive for getting to the stars on your visual board! thank you for your advice
Loving this series! Thanks for being so honest with us; these videos are very inspiring and informative!

I’m the same! I like paying off things so I’m not constantly accumulating debt
Thank you for being honest and vulnerable.
Congrats.. I love watching your videos but now it’s a topper that you started talking about debt because I live in LA as well.. 🎉🎉🎉🎉
I'm not independent yet but I always make sure they not spend too much for me. Anyways, you are so inspiring!
Hey Aja, could you create a tutorial on how you made your spreadsheet budget? I have a basic spreadsheet budget--but your budget is more detailed! Have A Great Day! -R

Hey Aja! Love your videos! Spreadsheet help: Try Airtable. It's awesome and simple and visually way cuter than a normal spreadsheet. Hope you like it!

You should look for a local college student to take your photos! Lots of great talent on campuses and you can pay them a fraction of the price of a real pro. It would also help them out with building a portfolio!

You're doing well with the budget. Keep it up girl!
Have you looked into raw feeding your dog? I'm hoping to start once I can convince myself to meal prep!
I can’t wait for the travel video! Need to know how you got that deal.
I've commented it before but YNAB!! and I love the post-its idea!! I might try that. I'm trying to pay off my smallest student loan out of the 66k i owe (fml) which is only about 6k, so I might use the post it for that one. Thanks for keeping it real :)

OMGosh Aja! I love this! I definitely love this! Thanks so much!
Hi, I love your post-it idea. Thank for sharing. Have a nice day.
I would love to see a video on homemade dog food. I asked my vet about this and she told me that by the time I supplement the food with the necessary vitamins etc, it would cost the same as buying a bag of good food in store? I didn’t look too far into it but I’m curious. My dog’s food is expensive!
AJA Your lashes look so much better now and in this video!!! than the most recent one- did you do something different?
So happy I found you! I’m rooting for you and your financial freedom. I Just transferred my law school loans from nelnet to MyFedLoan... I’m currently on the 10 year forgiveness plan....3 years in and have to stay non profit/government!!they are just so daunting...
LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOO
thanks for using real numbers. It actually helps alot! How do you account for the minimum monthly payments in your budgeting and spreadsheet?
I love your videos and your talks!!!
Question about your student loans. When you pay off $1k and remove a post it, is that excluding interest or when $1k off the principle balance?
2:00 minutes in, Steve Jobs😂you’re hilarious! Serious topic & you still offer comic relief 😉
This was super helpful!
Also one about acting and SAG, too! I'm more on the modeling end of the spectrum, but am looking to get into more commercial acting!
I love these!! Keep it up boo
Your videos are very helpful! Gonna take your advice on board and see if it works! Thank you xx
Girl I feel you on the student loan debt.. I have about 50k right now and it’s daunting. Can you do a video on what you do for work? I know you said you freelance but what is it that you do exactly?
I created a spreadsheet and have been using it for a while! I love the idea ;)
Cant wait for your dog food video! I've been struggling with my dogs diet too :(
I wanna fly first class! Can't wait for that one!
I also am conflicted about not contributing to an IRA until debts are paid...what about compound interest?
I can't wait to see that traveling video! $34 for first class tickets?!
waiting on that flying first class for $34 video haha. Congrats on paying off your car! Keep at it =)
Can I see a Eurotrip plan in the background of the board?:D
Loved it, gonna try it out todayyy
Try Newman’s own dog food. It’s on amazon and at Whole Foods and it’s both natural and affordable!
