    There should be a Board of Operators to test out bus features like blind spots or comfort before the agency decides.

    Every city should have double-decker electric buses just because they look so damn cool. Edmonton's eastern suburb of Sherwood Park uses the diesel version of these currently, but has plans to electrify their fleet with these ones I believe, pun intended... Great video, btw!

    Though the upper height of the bus is 5'7", it actually helps out still since the majority of people aren't 6". The taller people stay on the first floor and the folks 5'7" and down go upstairs. Nice buses in the building overall, too.

    The AD E500 Double Decker is a beauty.
    Wish more American Transit Agencies would warm up to the idea of having more double deckers around. Would work wonders for capacity issues.
    But alas the struggle continues. Wonder which cities might get to have it running in their streets.

    • @BusDriverLife

      It’s normally due to clearance height issues in some places. Here in Sacramento some bridges are quite low. The Gillig BRT buses are just under 12ft and they barely clear some bridges. Lol. There probably some routes that could have double deckers as long as there are no detours.

    Foothill Transit in east Los Angeles County has deployed a double-decker EV Bus for their Silver Streak route. She's a beauty.

    • @nathanielw8234

      Two of them in fact, #3000 and #3001. Rode both many times going east and west and frankly, not only are they amazing from the outside, but also the inside. The ride quality compared to the Silver Streak's usual bendy buses/articulated coaches is far superior both on the freeway and on local streets. Getting into downtown LA though, it's a definitely a bit scary at times. Tree branches (for those on the top deck at least), jaywalkers sprinting across the road, the typical city crap. As a daily Foothill Transit rider for many years now, I was shocked when these first came into service. Amazing work by Alexander Dennis and American Seating, seriously. Along with my transit agency, I couldn't thank them enough for producing and putting such a magnificent coach bus into service.

    • @Unknowner01

      I heard they will get 24 more of these, hopefully these kind of buses to be exclusive to Silver Streak route while they should put Artics in lines 187 and 280.

    we got the same model in a different configuartion in berlin, tho I'm hella surprised how different the us spec version is. the cockpit looks like some 1960s iron factory workbench or subway cabin, compared to the eurospec all digital and well disgned cockpits that look more like automotive interiors. also the black bumpers 😬🥲

    • @BusDriverLife

      I believe the bumpers are a requirement here. I see a lot of people outside of the United States who hate the bumpers on American buses. I guess I’m used to it. Lol. Also..that cockpit is extremely modern compared to a lot of other American buses. Most have looked the same for decades…extremely outdated!

    I used to drive the Enviro 500 and older Tridents for a tour bus company in NYC. Those 500s are nice and run well. As long as those buses are properly cared for. They require a little bit more car than a transit bus. Love how the controls for the driver are almost the same as the ones I used to drive. Some of those also have that trademark sound for when you take your foot of the brake when driving.

    I wonder how this double decker would handle in snow,the center of gravity,hopefully it has anti luck breaks to stabilize the bus in the event of slippery conditions.

    • @texasabbott

      There are places in Europe where bus drivers train with double deckers on a drifting track. They handle very well in the snow, on drifting track and have plenty of resistance to roll-over due to a well-engineered low center of gravity. It has a bit more sensitivity to crosswind than a single-level motorcoach. Overhead clearance for bridges and tunnels are a major concern.

    I don't like the low floor concept for express buses. Just wait for the lifts, ruins the ride. Otherwise the MCI bus is pretty nice.

  • @TheBadCivilServant

    I used to work for GO Transit in Toronto and drove the three versions of the ADL Enviro 500s (each version getting progressively lower in height). The passengers liked them. They were a nice ride. When they worked.
    The trend towards electric buses (and my current emoloyer - a charter ooerator - has dozens on order) is going to turn out to be a catastrophic boondoggle.
    There's a reason why consumers are turning away from electric cars now. They are expensive, impractical and dangerous

    Whhhaaat? No more NOVAS? I love those buses over the flyers we have here in Chicago. I hated them at first, but grown to love them. The New Flyers have too many issues for me, especially poor turning ratios, thats the worst 🙄

    • @BusDriverLife

  • @BlownMacTruck

    God we need more bus innovation in the US. We basically have one major manufacturer, and no competition. That makes things bottom of the barrel for passengers AND drivers. Nova leaving is awful news.
    Get the word out there man! Those busses you like are awesome and need to be deployed in the US!

    • @superbrownsheep3777

      If New Flyer leaves, we will have nothing. Articulated buses as a whole will no longer be available in the US unless Gillig steps up to the plate and provides an articulated version of their buses. We need bus manufacturers in the US and Canada more than ever

    • @natefrom828

      Yes, other than school buses. They require a license endorsement of their own. At least that's the case in the US.

    • @dougbrowning82

      Here in Manitoba, it's based on seating capacity. A bus with 24 seats or more (school bus with 36 seats) is class 2, anything smaller is class 4. Class 5 can drive an empty bus. Of course, if the bus has air brakes, you need an ABE as well.
