An absurdly disturbing yet beautiful film. Puts it right up there with herzog and kubrick. not quite gilliam though. well... on second thought, i guess it really depends on the time of day.
@@ricardocantoral7672 Valid, but for me Herzog seems more 'man against self'...Aguirre? Fitzcarraldo? My first Herzog film was 'the enigma of casper houser'. He certainly concerns himself w/natural factors for sure (stunning photography) but... Loved the bad Lieutenant... Kubrick also seems predominantly concerned with the human condition. The master of course is Gilliam. And I only say that because my brain has been processed through a pppp...probability matrix. Fuck the bozos!
@@ern3901I have seen Aguirre and Fitzcarraldo. That was definitely man vs nature which featured both external (environment) and internal(innate madness) chaos. Gilliam is a great filmmaker but I would put him below Kubrick and Herzog; he has a grand imagination but he lacks the visual poetry of the aforementioned names.
Corky's character is often mistaken for being multiple personality, but he's schizophrenic, fats represents his dark side and his delusion that he's alive.
I just noticed something!!! At :38....Fats said "cut the migraine shit" when Corky puts his hand to his forehead indicating he was getting a migraine!!! How was Fats able to see Corky when he is just a doll!!! Fat's eyes are not alive!!! How was Fats able to know Corky was having a migraine???!!!!
Great script. Terrifying tension with sardonic one liners. "..on visiting day she can bring crayons and the two of you can color together"
Hilarious & eerie 😨😂👏🏾
In the novel, Fats first appeared in the form of a disembodied voice. Corky was about to commit suicide and Fats talked him out of doing it.
Didn't they do a similar bit in The Beaver, from Jodie Foster, and with Mel Gibson?
Great film, Anthony Hopkins brilliant as both corky and fats, should have won an Oscar for this
TWO Oscars; Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor..!
Anthony Hopkins Really Did A WonderFul Job Portraying Corky The Ventriloquist In Magic An I Just Really ♥ Him
I love this movie! I hope it's available soon!
Actually my friend there is Plex is a website and a app so you can watch the movie magic 1978 is on plex
Forgotten masterpiece.
Fantastic movie..!

And Fats The Ventriloquist Dummy He Really Looks A Lot Like Anthony Hopkins :D
I hope if DC ever makes a solo Scarface and Ventriloquist movie, they take some inspiration from Magic
Yup!!! Im so waiting for ventriloquist batman villain in any movie!!!
That would be interesting. Maybe one or two films that conclude with his death.

Not Herzog. He prefers films about man vs nature. Kubrick on the other hand would have made this film far more absurd and darkly comedic.

i was born to this movie
When Fats speaks without his lips moving......it's like he's being the ventriloquist himself.....!!!
Cut the migraine shit!
:53...Corky's voice is heard from Fats.....that probably was intentional!! Like Fats is an extention of Corky.....or could be a mistake.....
Corky's character is often mistaken for being multiple personality, but he's schizophrenic, fats represents his dark side and his delusion that he's alive.
Fats" replied - " its the Hat's for you" bcuz they think you are @ fruitcake" Damn what a response?

Why does it seem like Corky is fighting with himself when he argues with Fats (who is also voiced by Corky/Tony)!!!!
