      Only spend what you already have, it's really that easy. When you make a purchase with your credit card you would have already made with a debit card just pay it off right away. You don't get charged interest fees or things like that when you pay them off right away. You just receive the added benefit of security because like he says, if your debit card is stolen then you're SOL until that money is returned to you, or in the off chance your bank is really being a jerk that day you may just lose the money forever. Credit card companies 99.9% of the time will just wave the lost "money" and everyone moves on with their lives. If you really hate Credit cards and you know you can't trust yourself to not put yourself into debt, at least use Google or Apple pay. Those two systems don't keep your debit card information on them so there's no way for a thief to get your account information from them

      @@warehawk the reason the wave it is because they force business owners to pay for it. Which is why someplace won't allow credit cards.

      Hate it, but I had charge dispute with BB&T and it took me a year to get it ironed out. I had. to contact Attorney General. I had false charge on credit card and takes a 5 minute call, and they placed in dispute. Do not go in debt. just pay credit card like any other bill. Many have rewards and no fee.

    Don’t debit cards also charge substantially less fees to the merchants though? The added fees from credit cards ultimately fall on the consumer.

    • @SillyOmega
      @SillyOmega 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes they do. Also credit card companies refund you by taking money from the business owner you're charged at. That's why some places won't let you use them at some stores. The ones that do charge you more per sale to cover fees an advent that credit companies come after them. Which is why places like WinCo are typically cheaper.

    • @granitemoss1451
      @granitemoss1451 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The problem I personally have with this is that while you can dispute charges on your debit card, the money is gone, and stays gone, until the bank gets around to putting it back, which can be a problem if you need that money for bills and expenses. Two days is a very good turn around time, it can take far longer. With a credit card, no money leaves your account while the dispute is reviewed.

    • @BarlowJacob
      @BarlowJacob 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@granitemoss1451 Yes, the money is gone temporarily and that's the downside. I've never seen it take two days - it's always been an instant credit for me. But it's still gone until you notice. I wasn't trying to say a debit card is better, just pointing out something I thought was inaccurate.

    • @granitemoss1451
      @granitemoss1451 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on the user. Some folks are so terrified of credit cards, the risk of having their bank account fraudulently accessed is worth the risk and clean up hassle to the them. Some people do not have an issue running up debt with their credit cards, and they feel far more secure using their credit cards within their budget and paying it off each month. I fall into the latter category, but I understand this is not what some would choose. To each their own, weigh the advice and choose for yourself.

      @@MikePowlas Well thats where I was getting at. My bank told me when I use it as a debit card its not covered by visa. They said when I use it as a credit card it is. They said when I use it as a debit, the bank is in charge of doing the investigation and getting the money issue solved. With my bank you can use your card as a debit and put your pin in or as a credit and use your zip code. Thats where the above reply comes into play.

    Instead of a separate bank account for your walking around debits, why not just buy and use a prepaid debit card?
    Are the fees for prepaid debit cards really that awful compared to the fees that banks for charge for low balance accounts?

    • @granitemoss1451
      @granitemoss1451 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, as I know it, the fees on those prepaid cards really ARE that awful. The solution is to avoid fees in both places by finding a free checking account or keeping the minimum required to avoid fees in there. My bank requires a minimum $100 balance to skip paying monthly account fees. I don't like parking that money there, unused, but I like it far more than paying a monthly fee.
