Nice test Rich. Still thought the sound from the Rode was better. We are big fans on our channel of the Rode Wireless Go2, works so well with the Insta 360 One X2. Range and battery life are brilliant. We use it to get duel audio from two motorcycles onto on camera.
I’ve only got the Rode Go1 but would love to get my hands on the 2 at some point. I was very impressed with the Go1 on every test in my video a year ago. The M18 is aimed at those on a budget. Thanks for the comment 👍🏼
@@TerryWindell News to me but you're welcome to check out our vids to see if you can find it. All of our Madeira series was filmed using the Rode system
have you tried mounting the M18 to a smallrig case? Does it remain invisible or do you specifically need the PT-20 for that? I use my X2 on a motorcycle and would not dare mounting it without my smallrig case around it
This would be a good alternative for some use cases, especially when the unit would be at risk of damage or loss. The primary reason I'm considering the Rode is for the stereo pair option.
buying this or the m18 for my x2....is there anything else needed to buy, hardware - battery/mic mount etc? or does this connect right to the camera and do whatever we do?
You’ll need the mic adaptor for one x2 or whichever camera you are using. There are compromises with this budget camera as shown in the video section just be aware before you buy.
I might be blind but do you hav links to the mic and the holder for the onex2. Got my camera looking to get started on some vlogging and stuff and def need good audio. Over all great video as usual
The link for the mic is in the description, you have to use the Aliexpress link if in UK otherwise you can use the Amazon one. For the pt-20 bracket you have to buy direct from insta360.com, I can’t find it anywhere else.
Thanks for the great review, one question though, can the reciever be plugged directly into the Insta360 One RS with the supplied USB C cable or is the external Mic option still necessary?
What’s the best way to attach the mic to the One RS? I’m assuming if attached to the official accessory connector that it won’t be invisible, I’m wondering whether the PT20 could be installed upside down? Thanks again!
Hi again Rich, do you think the Dji would work with the Ulansi clip also and keep out of view? Really like the mic, it looks a better option for using with a smart phone as well as a 360. The Sarmonic ones are expensive too and hard to get it seems.
Yes but you’ll need an external mic or a controlled environment as the internal mic isn’t very good. It’s more work with the one x2 as you have to reframe. If you’re doing a lot of blogs it’s worth investing the money in the best mic you can afford.
@@EatSleep360 Ok thanks. The one X looks great for vlogs. I read others saying it adds to content rather than is good enough alone. Do you agree or disagree with this?
If usu camera accessories and cable usb c to usb c is not working, i have not adapter insta , and when come out new insta rs , i can't find adapter for one r, and not sure it will working...
Hi rich, sounds interesting, and good for using out on the bike especially if the wind muff stays on, I've lost one of the one's for my rode go wireless and can't find anywhere that does replacements (any ideas). Range wise for me as long as it's going to work ok at the end of a 3m selfie stick, then that's good enough for me
Hi Martin, if you have the rode already then I wouldn’t replace it, the Rode is more expensive and better overall for insta cameras - the m18 is aimed at those on a budget. On amazon Uk you can buy these compatible wind shields amzn.to/3sjkFSI - I use a small elastic band with mine across the mic. Crazy really that I need to do thst but it works.
@@EatSleep360 , Cheers Rich for the tip on the mic muffs, I'll order some and give them a go, yeah i'm well happy with the Rode, but as you say the M18 looks good on a budget
I’m using a Synco G2 A2 radio mic set up and it’s visible on the stitch line irrespective of how I try and position it. It’s 17mm thick the same as the Rode. Not sure why I’m having this issue, but googling this I’ve found the same issue with people using the Rode set up. Yet you guys on TH-cam don’t have a problem. The Cold Shoe mode in the editing makes no difference.,
I have an insta 360 one R, and when I use an external mic (tried rode, movo, and a lav mic) I get a lot of background noise. I can clear it up within the insta 360 studio, but that's an extra time consuming step exporting it to my pc, and then to my editing software. Any idea why that is happening, or any other solutions???
Make sure you use the official Insta360 adaptor - the audio just isn’t that good with the one r adaptor - a bit inconsistent. Try selecting voice focus on the audio setting. Position the mic higher so it’s nearer the mouth when you talk. The levels are auto so these cameras suck up all the background noise when it can’t hear your voice. Try and eliminate as much background noise as possible by moving location, switching things off when possible etc. These are basic tips but hope they help.
@@EatSleep360 thank you for the reply!! Yea, I've done all that you mentioned. It's definitely the camera, cause I don't have an issue with the mics, on any other device u used them with... Just wanted to make sure I wasn't the only one with that issue. Thank you!
Very interesting results Rich! Is it worth me playing devil's advocate here, by quoting the old saying "you can be forgiven for bad video, but not bad audio!". There's not much difference in their system, when compared to the Rode 2. The only major difference is the DJI system can connect to a smartphone, which increases its flexibility
Thanks Ray. Yes I agree, I work in TV and you can’t compromise sound or pictures and the radio mics we use are £500 upwards. My first tripod was £5000 but lasted 20 years and then it was still worth £2k - prices in TV used to be crazy you paid it so it would last.
