this video makes me miss home man i lived in japan 9 bloody years now im stuck in uni back in the UK..... thanks for showing me home again mate great upload
Just came back from Tokyo. It's funny because this crossing looks so chaotic but you won't find a more disciplined and orderly city than Tokyo. That's a dream city with a dream people. I love Japanese culture!!
One of the best experiences of my life. What you don't see in the video is the multiple levels of clubs, stores and restaraunts 5 floors above and 2 below street level. Then there's the tight alley ways packed full of the same. My fav are the tiny bars that you have to duck your head to get inside. I've been home a week and I already miss it.
i had to smoke a cigarette to stand your video... it's so hard for me to be beack in germany... Shibuya is just GREAT. i used to sit in the starbucks coffee house and just watch the crowd... oh god it touched me so hard...i nearly cried. :( AWESOME
i've lived in japan since i finished my junior education, that's about ten years although i live in Osaka of Kansai, but i do have a strong impression of shibuya in tokyo, endless wave of pedestrain, togther with the stream of countless vehicles and the man made sunlight fromed by numerous neon and digisinage that's why shibuya of today fright me, i never ever seeing shibuya so dim( but still many people),
amazing video. I love mega cities, like New York City, London, Paris, Sao Paulo and off course Tokyo. This video give you a awesome impresion of Tokyo.
i know the coffee shop you are talking about. i was there just the other day. you are right, it is so beautiful and cant be explained through words. thanks for your comment! you should come back to japan to visit!
LOL Looks like there are more people traffic then cars :) Looks real cool I want to visit, and I love how every one just takes care of there city not like here in the states where people trash it. I mean here is a city with millions of people in it and they can manage to keep it cleaner then a city with like Detroit with 800,000 some people.
It looks like a lovely and very exciting city, 'd like to be there some days too. By the way, what is the name of the song? Greetings from Mexico City!
in tokyo, its quite easy to get around without knowing any japanese at all as many people speak basic english. train staff in particular are also very helpful and usually will be able to communicate in english. signs and directions in train stations are in japanese, english, korean and chinese in most major cities in japan.
thanks senz for the comments! being american and having been to tokyo but not new york... seems like a sin... i love megacities as well! tokyo is such fun!
Actually, Toukyou is only 12 million people. The whole Kantou region is 32 million. That region, for a comparison, is about the size of the "Lower Mainland" of British Columbia. BC is about 2 or 3 times the size of the entire country of Japan which is home to just over 127 million people. And that intersection, while busy and crazy, does not feel as dense as it looks. People just... flow. I walked across that intersection nearly every day for 7 months for work ^_^
Was it easy to get around without knowing much Japanese (unless you speak well then never mind :p) I am staying at Shibuya Cozy Inn in May for a few days then taking a train to Himeji Another question if I may, how easy is it to catch trains and understand where and when you are going?
You most definitely should, I have been there 5 times, each in different areas and I'm still amazed and want to go back. However, their economy is really choking right now, so I wouldn't suggest living there.~
i think that thts actually a good thing cause it teaches u how 2 hav control at an early age and u wont go achohal crazy like we do in america wen we come of age
actually it used to be death in vegas- girls.. but it was removed cuz of copyright... so now the song is homeless club kids (Alexander Perls remix) by My Favourite
the current song is homeless club kids (Alexander Perls remix) by My Favourite --- but the first song i had - was *girls* by death in vegas... off of the Lost in translation soundtrack... but youtube blocked the song cuz of copyright... thanks for the comments!
i can't remember where i heard this, but i remember someone saying that "Shibuya lights are like Times Square lights on crack" with all the pretty colors :D i want to go there waahhh. (I feel like i'm missing out lol)
Tokyo isn't cheap by any means but it isn't that bad either. These price lists are based on US dollars and use NYC as the benchmark. Consider that. To get to your question... Survival Japanese is fairly easy. The grammar isn't too bad and most sounds in Japanese exist in English. It's only when you want to become truly fluent that it gets extremely difficult. Hope this helps.
i remember going there and i was like "holy crap so many people" , id love to go back to tokyo again and the tram system they have there is sawesome, i remember going to these like underground market places with all this good food omg i keep talking about it lol i jus wanna go back
@lance15d Thanks! Too bad a used copy of the album "Happiest Days of Our Lives" goes for so much. If the rest of the CD sounds like this, I'll be happy then!
I actually spend my exchange year in Osaka, prefecutre because of that i really like Osaka, Namba, SHinsaibashi really much, but tomorrow i am going to tokyo for 2 days, but i think I will still like Osaka, Namba the best.

I miss living in Japan so much. This video, however amature it is, really captures the intensity of the world's largest metorpolis.

Yes! Nothing has changed :)
MAN, that looks so nice
you can see a similar intersection in London now acording to today's yahoo Japan news.
Haha. I looooove Japan, but Shibuya was a bit much for me. I'm just not a fan of areas like that. Tokyo is a great city, though.
street musicians in Jpn usually dont play for money. even homeless dont collect money in Jpn. good players can sell their CD though.
reason why cities are cool give you 0.2 % chance more to find someone cool .
Yes, yes, yes, all very interesting but more to the point, what are the GIRLS like!
Going there next year. Cant wait!
Tokyo has a higher population than all of Canada.
