  • My first scuba diving liveaboard 🚢 on the Dolphin Queen 🐬 (by Similan Diving Safaris) in Thailand. 🇹🇭 We dive Thailand's best dive site, Richelieu Rock, the Surin and Similan Islands, which had some really nice clear water and cool landscapes. We also got to go on on of the most beautiful islands (#4), which had soft white sand, clear waters and and was not crowded.
    Featuring moray eels, sea snakes, schools of yellow snappers, barracuda, triggerfish, and more! 🐠
    The Dolphin Queen liveaboard was 4 days / 4 nights and we did 14 dives in total! 🛥️
    Part 2 covers Days 3 and 4 and 6 dives, plus a visit to Miang Island (#4 in the Similan Islands), with crystal clear waters and beautiful white sandy beaches, plus my very first night dive. At the end I give a review of the trip and the Dolphin Queen.
    Travelled in April 2019, just after the Songkran Festival.
    Dive sites in Part 2:-
    1) Elephant Head Rock 🐘
    2) West of Eden
    3) North Point
    4) Koh Bon (my first night dive)
    5) Koh Bon
    6) Boonsung Wreck 🛳️

    I’m not big on diving but I do enjoy snorkeling. I went to the Great Barrier Reef which was an excellent place to dive and snorkel.

      Nice. That was one of the first places I dived, but tbh, I really don't think it's the best anymore. Definitely recommend even closer to tropics for better corals and fish :)

    Such a cool video, I wish I could get into diving its so beautiful but unfortunately I am terrified of sharks!

    • @XennialTraveller
      @XennialTraveller  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh noooo... sharks are cool. Also, if you are terrified of sharks then you SHOULD go diving. Even aggressive sharks pretty much never think of attacking us weird looking divers with big metal tanks strapped to our backs. We're always the ones looking out for sharks and they run away 😉 Swimming / snorkeling much more dangerous on that front.

      Congratulations on your Open Water! 🙌 I hope you have some amazing underwater adventures, and thanks for watching. Btw, once you've had some experience (ideally having done your Advanced OW) you should really look into diving Sipadan off the coast of Sabah. It's an incredible place to dive!

    Omg so many amazing fish! I love the stripey dudes at 1:15! The beach at 3:44 is amazing. Omg I wish I was there! Ooooh, I love diving wrecks. There's something so eerie about them that creeps me right out. I've only snorkelled around wrecks so far but would love to dive!

      I was so impressed with how abundant the fishes were! This wreck was quite wrecked 😜 I've been in others where you can go through them - those are very eerie especially if you get one which isn't crowded. Hope you get to try diving soon, I think you'll like it!

    Your underwater shots are great! There actually seems to be some living coral too (not overly common in Thailand these days). Milay island looks really nice, the water is beautiful and it didn't seem too crowded either! The wreck dive looked very cool!

    • @XennialTraveller
      @XennialTraveller  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was very pleasantly surprised. The living coral problem I think is worldwide 😢 so it's really nice when you see a good bunch of living coral and clear water. I think we were really lucky with Miang Island (maybe because it was the end of season). Thanks for watching!

      Thanks! Definitely best to go to these places off season (I'm usually not even so keen on going to fairly well established places normally as you might tell from the rest of my vlogs). Diving is certainly a whole new world, and considering that so much of the Earth's surface is underwater. Do you like snorkelling?

    There are some really big trigger fish on that first dive. Lol at the Baywatch scene. Too bad you did not get any footage of the shark. One of my favorite places to dive is Jupiter, Florida

    • @XennialTraveller
      @XennialTraveller  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah! Loved the trigger fish and how intricate they are. Yeah, sadly with the sharks and the rays they were a little too far away (and I had my wide angle on so they would have looked tiny). What are the main highlights of diving in Jupiter?

    • @XennialTraveller
      @XennialTraveller  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      We did 14 dives = 4 + 4 + 4 + 2! That was a lot of diving. Up until that trip I had never done more than 3 dives per day. And yeah, really well organised trip and partly because it was the tail end of the season the dive sites were not crowded. I've seen some videos of people doing day trips to the islands and they looked much much busier! Do you dive too?

    Amazing underwater footage, were you filming with a gopro? Diving looks like a lot of fun and the islands are amazing the sand is so light! It really looks like the place to be, will definitely put it on our list, that island life is goals! The night time diving is crazy, how do you see everything in the water? So cool, thanks for sharing!

    • @XennialTraveller
      @XennialTraveller  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was using a Panasonic LX10 (my former main vlogging camera) in an underwater housing. I think it's much better than a GoPro because of its large sensor and lots of settings that can be controlled. Night diving was really a revelation! It was actually a full moon, so actually even without light you can see a bit underwater (we weren't very deep - around 10-15m), but we all had torches and it was really magical! Thanks for watching!

      Tropical fish are the most colourful! The whole trip cost about EUR650 (twin cabin), plus I think another EUR 50 for equipment rental, which is really quite good for a liveaboard. The more luxury ones can be like EUR1,000+. Maybe you should diving a shot since I think you like fish and sealife too! It's an incredible feeling.
