People can play GTA 5 just fine as Franklin, or The Walking Dead as Lee and get engrossed in the world, but if you dare not make something that doesn't include them in the slightest then all of a sudden it's a problem. I don't know it's just this Bizarre 1st world issue where people cannot play a game happily that they are not wholly represented in, and fankly I just can't relate. I could play the Jedi Fallen Order games while not being a ginger, I could play Tomb raider while not being a woman, I could play GoW without being ripped or Greek. The more and more that I see it the more that I've just come to the conclusion that the US has a narcissism problem and it's making art and gaming and media objectively worse due to people being unable to remove themselves from reality and forcing fantasy to become reality because without doing that they can't enjoy an IP.

As someone who worked for a Customer service before, i can guarantee that was not an automated response. There are real people behind that feedback, and it is not ethical and acceptable to talk about matter regarding politics, religion or race with customers. And yes, players are just a bunch of idiots (no matter if they are kids or adukts), most of them cuz it is not unusual to find those complains in gaming companies. And over time, these kind of things kind of make you grow resentful against players.

I played GI and other Hoyo's games since 2020, but I never cared that much about PGs, gifts or and anniversary stuff like that. And have hardly spent something on them cuz I can be somewhat greedy at times (Primogems are like real moeny at the end of the day). I just play in peace, but seeing those people, really make you lose faith in humanity (just cuz they rant over a game that is just pure fiction) and challenge your mental state. Dark Web is a thing, but video game players i think are even worse (especially cuz of the idiotic demands they may ask to any company). I like how when Fontaine got released all the French ppl laughed and jokes about how there’s characters named basically Gravel or Pavement or the dog Baguette. I mean, Furina is basically Marie Antoinette with the pastries representation n such. And that’s a rather dark period of their history. Inazuma/Japan and the wall basically you don’t know what happening there. So yeah. They take inspiration from countries and make amazing stories. They borrow aesthetics and names.

There are so many ppl naming their kids names from different cultures. So, there’s no way you can name a person with a certain name only if they look like the person/deity of the same name.

They say "When it takes so much real life references to cultures and not make the characters black, is racism and colorism". Yes, that's a real thing that some freak was telling me in comments. Just like you said about French people making fun of it because although they may use names, food, music and clothing, it's still just cultural references to add themes to their fictional regions.
They think that the only way you can represent culture, is with skin color. When the cultural references in game are accurate and done is good taste. It also makes me laugh that people who get mad at anime characters, who are usually pale skin, get angry because most of them are just that.
They never stop to think that anime characters will usually be pale skinned because that's where anime originates from and that the Asian devs, in the Asian country would make characters that would remind them of themselves, being pale skinned.
But they think because they referenced culture, that it MUST include skin color, otherwise it's colorism and culture appropriation. The brainrot is real with these, I would be happy seeing my culture represented done so accurately and respectfully because that's what matters when representing culture, not races.

The issue is one of the fictional characters is based on another culture's diety that is black and he got white washed.
Mihoyo buffed a character named Zhongli because the CN playerbase was complaining he was too weak to represent China. If they don't want to represent other cultures fine, however make it consistent across the board

When Ariel, Hercules, Peter Pan, etc. were blackwashed the same wokies condescendingly said "lol, it's a cartoon showing a fictional story. why are you getting offended?" to anyone who brought up the actual blackwashing of already estabilished characters. Now that "a game with a fictional story" doesn't have as many black characters as they would want to have, all hell breaks loose. Not only that, but they consider anyone saying the same exact thing as they did in other cases, as "disrespectful and insulting".
The only thing these type of people keep proving is their absurd hypocrisy.
Firstly, fictional characters without any relation to a specific ethnicity, culture or whatever can be played by anyone, who is providing good acting skills. Their ethnic background should be the least concerning part about that shit.
Secondly, fictional characters with a clear relation to a specific ethnicity, culture or whatever should be represented correctly without issues otherwise it is plain disrespectful without honoring the actual people. If you can take everything from certain groups to put an identity for your so called „medium” but not other aspects than this shit is absurd.
Thirdly, characters like Ariel, Peter Pan etc aren’t based on a specific nation. However characters like Hercules, Queen charlotte etc are based on a clear group of people, that isn’t represented correctly. That is the huge differences between these problems one doesn’t justify the other thing.
Basically the same shit with Assassins creed the character yasuke, who isn’t representing the actual people of Japan or making false claims about that character to force this „diversity” nonsense. On the other hand it’s the same shit with genshin impact, who takes clear inspirations from diverse places such as West Africa and South America. They are even taking all the elements of these diverse groups but cannot represent the actual people correctly. It would be the same case for Avatar the last air bender. There are clear inspirations from diverse groups such as East Asia and Central Asia. That’s one reason why the first live action movie sucked ass because they couldn’t represent the actual people. Then the Netflix version came out without having the issues in the first live action movie.

@@alissonluvr First of all - those stories are based on specific folklore of specific people around the world. Playing it by a random race IS cultural appropriation and you know it. Snow White and Rappunzel are from Germany, the setting in which the stories are based in, also confirmed that - to add to that, Snow White was mentioned to have white skin and Rappunzel is a german name.
Peter Pan was a normal white baby who was dragged to Neverland as stated in the original work. Tinkerbell was a white pixie and Ariel (which comes from the Danish fairy tale) had white skin. All of that information are mentioned in the original stories.
You know damn well that Aladdin and Jasmin had to be potrtayed by actors of specific ethnicity. Same goes for the Genie even though he was originally blue and when he did turn into a human-like entity, he had white skin.
Your type of people will use this as an argument ONLY when you are trying to justify when colorwashing happens to white characters, but will be the first to whine when the opposite happens (like the same people whined about Lilo and Stitch cast not being dark enough, even though ethnically, they were picked correctly. But your types will whine only when the skin isn't dark enough and not the other way around).
Secondly. It's either both or none at all. You can't have the cake and eat it too.
To add to that, taking inspiration from a place in real world is not the same as using their people to represent them.
Genshin never called those places Africa like Ubisoft did with their game calling it Japan and failing to not only portray the era in a wrong way, but also f'd up with using Yasuke who isn't even acknowledged to be a samurai to the majorioty of the world (only the Western world used him as a propaganda and push that narrative out, as it was already proven by looking at the Western historian text about Yasuke - one written for awestern consumer while the other for the Eastern. Both being complete opposites of each other), yet alone a hero.
There's a plethora of games like Genshin that does that. The thing is though, the market normalized the European culture, architecture and folklore, so now some ignorant people aren't even aware that the type of the general fantasy setting (with castles, forests, kindgoms, princes, princesses, kings and queens with a crown and a throne, etc. derive from Europe) - yes, there are some branches of these things in other places too, but the combination used in the fantasy settings comes from Europe.
To add to that, the fantasy fauna used in these games also comes from the European belief systems and folklore (from giants, fairies, elves, sires, gorgons, dragons, etc.).
Again, not claiming that all of the above are individualyl exclusive to Europe, but in the combinations they are used in a fantasy story, they are clearly based on the European folklore.
You mentioned Avatar the Air bender, but how about we focus on the other Avatar - which is also inspired by an Earthly culture, yet, since it's a fantasy story, their people are aliens.
You need to understand that what you are talking about is purely a western idiotic ideological propaganda that is focusing on this to an absurd extend. The rest of the world isn't affected by this in such case.
The vast majority of people who are pointing this out, are pointing out the hypocrisy of the individuals affected by this western mentality. There's a reason why there's a huge decline in western-affected media (with the whole baby inc. influence bs) consumption while the eastern one is okay. The examples you mentioned with Snow White and Rapunzel is a clear example that they are fairy tales based in Germany. In addition, Snow White explicitly mentions what she looks like. In Rapunzel, her appearance is not explained more specifically, except that she has long blonde hair.
Nevertheless, it is a very strong indicator that she is German. Just the fact that Rapunzel's name comes from the popular "Rapunzelsalat", which would be lamb's lettuce in English shows certain hints, but it's not as meaningful compared to the other things in the story, but it's just a small funfact. Why should I dispute things here, please? No Peter Pan was never clearly described as a "white" baby or anything in the story, if he was then he would most likely be British, however it was only mentioned that he was born in London. He could also have another ethnicity besides being British. He could also be Scottish as his physical characteristics were kept very vague in the original story.
However, Barrie never really described Peter Pan's physical appearance in detail and left it to the reader's imagination. Also, this character has been played by different people over the years. I could go into a lot more detail about Neverland, that it's a very imaginative place with very diverse characters. The same thing I mentioned about Peter Pan's appearance also applies to Tinkerbell, the author never gave specific details about her appearance so it was left to the reader's own imagination. In the original work she is described as just a bright light, making Tinkerbell very difficult to see with the human eye.
No, in the original work the little mermaid was never really described as "white" or anything like that. The same thing applies to the original work of the Little Mermaid. In the story, no reference is ever made to her specific external features. Exactly the same thing, it's in the eye of the beholder... If we're talking about the Disney live action movie of Ariel, then of course she doesn't look like the animated one.

Genshin impact always made it clear where the regions are based on. It's a work of art literally taking inspiration from real life cultures, music, clothing, historical events, religions, etc. Naturally speaking, the people part of said cultures should also be included too, as seen by the desert characters in Sumeru so the whole "Work of Fiction" argument doesn't stands

The sky of Teyvat is fake. This is a known fact. The stars in the sky and the sun may very well just be artificial constructs or holes into another reality. There may not be light of a conventional style shining down on the world. This could be magical light that, while plants and animals can live under it, it doesn't react with melanin in human skin and therefore will not cause the darkening of the skin whether through tanning or generational evolution.

Middle eastern person here, the genshin region that is based on the middle east is called Sumeru, and I have to say, while I agree having more diversity in the skin color of the cast would've been obviously been better, Sumeru had better representation of our culture then %99 of Hollywood I've seen, its not just 'da funny cat man in egypt' or just 'middle eastern bombers am I right fellas?' And never anything beyond that, while Sumeru actually inserted parts of middle eastern culture that hollywood activley ignores. sumeru was a great region to explore, honestly loved it more than Liyue which is based off China. Liyue feels familiar, reminds me of home. But Sumeru had so many elements of a culture Im unfamiliar with. And the skin color is the least of my concerns, I agree it wouldve been nice to have more diverse skin tones so it is visually stimulating. But the environment and the story is the most important to me. Music was great too.

Id prefer if you didn't generalize. I'm not pleased with Genshins representation but quite pleased with fire emblems. I'm aware this isn't a big deal and is just a small criticism I have of the game. Loud dumbasses are simply blowing it out of proportion and I do not support race swapping existing characters. I simply hope that when Genshin does visit a region with primary black people, they include a black character in their game. Some actual black hair would be cool too. No diversity quotas, no story or creative restrictions, Simply include a black character when you take inspiration from regions with black people. That's all I request.

Sadly i know quite a few in a small genshin discord sever im aregular in who are both long-term players and r regularly posting this crap (funny enough otherwise they are normal funny ppl). To be fair, there is some truth to the issue. Like, Natlan and Sumeru, if u have 2 braincells minimum, you can tell they're inspired by irl cultures and locations, which if u go look at the actual people living in said zones, they are predominantly of darker skin tones. So yes, in a sense, it's weird that when all that inspo gets posted in game and everyone is as white as milk, it raises an eyebrow. However on the same note, it's a game, by a chinese company, like what else do we expect lmao, they're gachas too, their point is to sell and we know dark skinned characters just dont sell well in their main target audience. tbf the real places that natlan is based on traditionally have darker skinned people, so they technically are "whitewashing" by taking elements of the culture but not the people from the culture. but at the same time I get why they do it, darker skinned characters don't sell well in asia

Genshin impact have never promised us any accurate representation of any culture/country. They take different elements form different cultures, and mix them together.
Also I find it funny that people are throwing tantrums now. But when Inazuman, and Liyue characters came out, no one complained that none of those characters looked Asian. They are white skinned with huge stylizied eyes, with blonde/green/blue etc hair colors. This is how much thought hoyo gives about representation as far as skin color goes. ;P

You know what's crazy about it? Most of these characters aren't even white. The idea that characters are either white or black is a western thing, and I guarantee you, the East Asian audience automatically perceive these characters as having East Asian features (mixed-race AT MOST but still mostly Asian), because guess what, Asians tend to find Asians more attractive. Most do want a different eye/hair color though, as dark/dark brown gets old when everyone else has it.
I love how by calling this whitewash, they are being very racist towards East Asians. Chinese people can have very pale skin, can also tone easily which is why fair skin has been associated with a higher social status (thus beauty) for thousands of years. So they aren't trying to whitewash anything. They are just making "ideal" E. Asian characters. Ignore character names. That's just for flavor.
Another fun fact: Chinese people don't generally think white people are paler, just pinker/having a colder undertone. Because we are competing with other East Asians not with white people (so what skin colors they have are irrelevant), and also because ideally, East Asians can be just as pale. In reality though, you can only hide from the sun for so long, so you wear 10 layers of foundations.
