You should have planted much closer than 2 feet. I have planted mine 1 foot (30cm) apart. I was recommended to plant them 40 cm apart but I decided not to.
I would assume so, but the problem is that they don't get more than 3-4 feet in height... At least in San Diego. Maybe a type of ficus would be better? Very cool idea, let me know if you try it out.
Hi! If you get a large enough root ball, they should survive. If they are mature, prune them back hard and then get a large rootball and they should make it!

I agree. I think they'd do fine closer together. The label recommended this spacing.
