This is one of the best rich guy/poor girl stories I've seen. The main reason is that Sa-rang is extremely confident in herself and doesn't feel inferior to anyone, even the guy. And the second is that the guy didn't care about others' or his family's expectations of him, so there was no unnecessary drama between them. They also communicated well.

Nahh.. She studied Mandarin before coz she starred in a Chinese drama years ago. She even appeared on some Chinese shows unaccompanied by a translator.
She studied it as a trainee and then studied more in ~2015 when she had a C-drama. She has many videos being interviewed, delivering speeches, and just talking to friends in Mandarin. My fave vid is Icono-clast with Sun Xiao Xiao (and Lin Geng Xin) where she only had her manager and it was a 23-minute talk show. There SXX said that at the start of their drama filming Yoona went to her and cried because she couldn’t communicate well, so they all helped her and she studied hard. By the end of filming, she didn’t need a translator. When she goes to a Chinese variety show they talk about how she understands everything and would respond faster than the translator could translate. She even translated for Jasper Liu when they were seated together at an awards show haha
Oh and i forgot to say she has an intermediate conversation level certificate for Mandarin. She talked about getting it in an interview with entertainment weekly iirc, after confidential assignment 1.
