Multi bit screw driver (you can unscrew screws from tyres and its useful to have for general things) Small adjustable wrench.(I once re-attached someones trailer mudguard they had ripped off, with just this tool) Small set of pliers or a locking grip plier( I have used this also to save tyres, break seals) A small box that you can fill with universal bulbs for headlights and trailer lights. (untill everything switches to LED this is still useful. Box Tape, you can repair a slashed trailer curtain or attach a side mirror that someone has knocked off while you parked at the side of road. A length of rope is useful to have, its handy if you can just leave in the truck. Mallet. . . .you can manage with out this but if you use the same truck throw one in the tool box. If you struggle with closing container door latches use a short length of scaffold pipe for more leverage on the handles or improvise with the mallet. Hi Kev. Helpful ! Yes it is. I have got more or less the same stuff in my truck, but let me add something essential a aid kit. With diverse drugs to fight headache, stomach ache, toothache, something to clean burnings, wounds and eyes and of course condoms in the case of.... Have good road...
Don't know if you still use that stove but, as a secondary one or new, look online for a Terra hiker..I use one for night fishing it's brilliant and comes in a strong small case to keep it safe 👍
Very interesting video, Kev. Only one thing to add, and it’s something I heard from a Canadian. Always chuck a couple of tea lights in your car/truck. The heat generated from a tea light can keep you warm in a confined space for hours at a time.
Tea lights are dangerous in a confined space, they will soon burn off all the oxygen in your cab. When I was trucking many years ago, a young driver lit his camping stove and fell asleep, Police found him dead the next day. Also a candle burns carbon molecules. If you sleep with a burning candle in a closed cab, it will have limited amount of oxygen. The Candle will continuously consume oxygen and convert it into carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide. Slowly the amount of carbon dioxide and monoxide will start increasing in the cab. You will start inhaling air having high percentage of carbon gases. It can also lead to death, because they are poisonous.
Yes you highlight a very good point regarding naked flames in a confined space. Always good to maintain ventilation and never fall asleep without extinguishing first.
Agree with Andyb, that was a cracking list. Head torch is useful, it leaves your hands free, gaffer tape also got me home. I found a stainless steel thermos flask was useful, any hot water left over was put in it for later use . If you can get hold of an army ration pack they offer a better alternative to pot noodles due to their high nutritional value. Outdoor equipment shops and web sites offer a vast range of useful gear. All the best for Christmas.
+paul cabuche some great tips there mate, I'm going to add a head torch for sure. I use to have ration packs but more often than not they would go out of date before I used them, might look into getting some more though 👍
I know it's older video, but taking some "emergency" food is smart no matter. I know here in the States, you could get stuck at a shipper / receiver most of the day. Or stuck out on the road behind an accident, and having something to eat so you're not starving. Even seen others asking truckers if they have any food or water, for elderly people. They might need to take it with medication, or they are getting low blood sugar. I like the tuna / chicken salad snack packs, not as bad on the salt levels. Compared to a lot of the soups and noodle cups.
Cheers Spencer, you never know when your will be thankful you packed some extra food or drink and I was very thankful when I got stuck out in the snow for 36 hours 👌
Hi Kev hope you and your family are all well well this is really a great vlog of yours i wonder if all truck drivers carries everything like you do that is a great thing to do has well keep up with the great work that you do and keep them great vlogs coming has well driver carefully and stay safe my friend
That's a cracking kit. I really liked your bag by the way with a pocket to have a maglite. I carry a Philips trucking atlas. Or I should say keep it in the cab as it huge blasted thing but very detailed. I always have two head torches, one in cab & one in bag. But as I say great kit - water is vital for me as my old girl overheated a few weeks back due to a leak rad pipe. Gaffer tape & water got me home 😀😉
+Andyb2379 yep I had a blown intercooler last week that was drinking water like it was going out of fashion, you can never carry too much water. I also have the Philips atlas but missed it out of the vid as it was in my drivers door. Great shout with the head torch, I have a spare in the garage and it will be going in my kit bag 👍
Andyb2379 need a special anti taliban torch, it’s the next model up from Kevs, about 25cm longer, carries more U2’s therefore heavier, for maximum purchase and so you can see them better.👍🏻😂
I was about to mention did you have the 24v cigarette lighter splitter but you pulled it out of the bag lol. You could invest into an garmin or tomtom fast charger cigarette lighter which has additional usb chargers also
+Southampton Fan84 yeah the HELLA socket splitter, I forgot the name when I was doing the video lol. The fast chargers are handy, the one I use just gives me the extra 12v socket for charging cameras and stuff 👍
Great stuff Kev, very useful and all makes sense. How many go out tramping without a lot of that. I used to carry all that stuff for the same reasons, other boys used to take the piss a bit but screw it, I was well prepared for most things and therefore you are happier in your head and more comfortable .👍🏻🎄
*What do you make of the essential new trucker book kev. I always carry it have it sectioned out just for quick reference stuff like Driver time or working time directives or signage thats not the norm. *I run the exact same set up just in a different bag slimmer in width so it fits down behind the drivers seat nicely, One thing Ive added is a measuring tape(i know most your loads are same sized trailers but might be handy for the abnormal or oversized trailers out there) dream job 🤞.
It won't be long before truckers start taking a portable solar panel for eg if it was to snow heavy and no power in truck a solar panel would charge phone etc and there are solar showers than can be heated naturally and portable toilets are common in the states now and it won't be long before truckers start using them over here But as truckers are starting to take drones with them in cab etc they will soon be able to send their drone to a local shop to get groceries alternatively could be good to get amazon prime so that a trucker that knows where they will be parked up for the next 2 hours etc could even order amazon fresh (groceries) to be delivered to the gatehouse of the drop they are on the way to and or a deliveroo takeaway to be delivered to truck Technology is making all this possible it only needs a few truckers to experiment such ideas to see if it's possible etc and comment on time ordered and time food arrived etc And you can get a portable solar panel and a portable toilet for truck for about the same price as a good truck satnav etc
+numberplate guy great comment mate, solar panel isn't a bad shout, I already have a solar power bank that works very well. I have been known to order the odd pizza from the cab whilst staying on an industrial estate although I don't think my drone is quite up to collecting my shopping yet lol.
numberplate guy A friend of mine in America has full solar panels on his truck, and a inverter with massive battery backup but it does have something like a 14' (foot) sleeper on the back.his last truck had a onboard 5kva generator. But it did have a larger sleeper he downsized on his new truck for this year?
Stephen Green Exactly The uk is miles behind the truckers in the states They have the lot A good youtuber to watch for solar ideas is a youtuber called Will prowse He know a thing or two about solar and what it could run etc It won't be long before uk haulage companies put 8000w of solar on the trailer roof per fridge trailer so it can use stored solar to run the fridge when on daily rest etc If all trailers had solar panels on all of the roof eg 30? Solar panels etc The trailer could run the truck via solar instead of the truck running the trailer etc
numberplate guy solar would be a excellent idea on a fridge trailer. American trucks in the sleeper department certainly have us beat, but we just don't have the room for bigger cabs I know you can get a scania long line !
All that tea, coffee, pot noodles and super noodles and 1 bottle of water! How about a survival blanket and some Kendal Mint Cake. A multi tool and maybe a road map would be useful. Lighter fuel if you’re broken down out in the middle of nowhere and your gas runs out or you have no power you could take a phone battery booster, charge it up at home through usb then plug into your phone to charge up the battery if needed.
+Edd Herring one water bottle??? Did you miss the 15L water carrier 😂😂 Great tips though, I've got a battery booster that will now be going in the kit bag 👌
Hi just watched your video and found it very interesting. However around 2:43 you took your car keys out then a small bottle but I can't hear what it was?! Sounds like sickness juice. Regards Luke
+gary63693 yes, by law you must have a roll in the tacho and at least 1 spare. If you have an analogue tachograph you must carry enough to carry out you duties, although there is no set amount its advisable to have a few with you.
I think you are getting a bit confused. The tacho roll he's referring to is what you stick in the printer. Your probably thinking of the old paper discs???
Do you have any decent recommended iOS apps for driving related work. I've been out of the game for the last 12/13 years and getting started again. Wanted to make good use of anything new that's available.
Just passed me theory test so next step is cpc 2 and class 2 after i pass them finally will be doing cpc 4 and class 1 just can't wait to get behind the wheel I've passionate about truck since the age of five and love long drivimg and staying away from home I've subscribed to few trucking magazines every year any tips off passing my tests first time will be appreciated kevtee thanks once again
Hey mate, congrats on passing your theory. Not many pass first time so if you don't then don't be too disheartened. Just take your time, listen to everything and don't let your nerves rule your actions 👍
We'll have to start calling you "MacGyver the truckie"! Took me a bit to work out "HGV". That, "Lorry" and "Artic" are foreign terms to an Aussie! I wish you Poms would speak English!!! Haha. At my work (not in the trucking industry), we call maglights "Yoube sticks"......You be f*cked if we hit you with one! Loving the videos, by the way. My stepson does long distance trucking. Stay safe (and warm-I feel for those experiencing British winters. 36C here tomorrow).
Hey Don, Glad you're getting to grips with "proper" English! Hehe. Love "Yoube sticks" my Maglight now has a new name 😂 It's a good job I'm familiar with the "semi" term, I'd be a little scared typing that into google 😂 All the best to your stepson in his "puddle jumper" (feel free to look that one up too lol) You can keep your 36c, too much for me and my sensitive skin, I'll stick to our max of 3c today brrrrrr. Thanks for taking the time to comment, love hearing from my international viewers, take it easy mate 👍
Well kev tee you have for got something very useful AN AA ROAD MAP AND YOUR sat nav warm clothes microwave in your cab and your usb cable so that you can charge your mobile phone a writing pad and pen incase your work changes and some tea bags a jar of coffee sugar milk spoon your run sheet and your hi visibility coat and waist coat hi visibility loaf of bread a kitchen knife for paste or jar of Jam and a lap top for games and work diary
The only thing that you might want to add is a small amount of extra cash - just in case you empty your wallet or leave it in the car. It's better to have too much money on you than not enough.
Many drivers dont carry simple tools and multiple times I have helped them because I do.
Retractable utility knife(very small, no reason not to carry this).
Multi bit screw driver (you can unscrew screws from tyres and its useful to have for general things)
Small adjustable wrench.(I once re-attached someones trailer mudguard they had ripped off, with just this tool)
Small set of pliers or a locking grip plier( I have used this also to save tyres, break seals)
A small box that you can fill with universal bulbs for headlights and trailer lights.
Other things I can think of, not mentioned in video:
Travel mug, spare charging leads in case one fails, paracetemol, sunglasses, spare gloves: you can put a dry pair on instead of gloves you used 10 minutes ago in the rain.
Do love a man who is prepared.
Just got my Class1, Kev. Your vlogs are proving very helpful in getting my stall set out. Cheers for the help pal 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks Kev, really helpful for a newbie

Use the webasto for heating and led for light.

Good video for the newbies. How about doing one about the types of food you take if you have no fridge or indeed a fridge?
Have you a link to purchase that bag?

Hi Kev, needing to update my work bag. Yours looks spot on. Could you tell me where these can be bought from please? Many thanks

Technology is making all this possible it only needs a few truckers to experiment such ideas to see if it's possible etc and comment on time ordered and time food arrived etc

very helpful kev nice one 👍
Thanks for the info. Just to make you aware that your Amazon link is no longer working. Has it been replaced with a newer one?
That flashlight is for going through Calais.
It would certainly do the job 😂
Hi just watched your video and found it very interesting. However around 2:43 you took your car keys out then a small bottle but I can't hear what it was?! Sounds like sickness juice. Regards Luke
It was e-cig juice mate, obviously not applicable to everyone 😂
Ah I see. I'm old school and still smoke fags! Take care out there. Regards Luke
No emergency chocolate?! A space blanket would be good. Just in case you get stuck without any heating and temperatures plummet.
Where did you get your bag from mate? Lol sorry, I see you put links in.
+Michael Davidson Amazon link is in the description mate 👍
Really good video but do you carry a map book?
+Josh Lines yeah I missed It, link is in the description thought 👍
KevTee Ok no worries mate
Very helpful mate thank you and have a good christmas
+Adam P And yourself Adam, glad you found it helpful mate 👌
I was waiting for the kitchen sink to appear from that tardis bag. Never can be too prepared
+Jay B ha... It is a bit of a beast but ideal for what I need to carry, I could probably fit a kitchen sink in there also 😂
Super video - thank you. Merry Christmas.
Thanks mate, I’m only 16 but will help me and 2 years haha, thanks once again
+Official_ Trucker glad you found it helpful mate, will hopefully of done a update by then 😂
Why did you leave to go on picking cars up mate.?
More money, less stress and better life 😂😂
@@KevTee can’t say fairer than that mate.👍
"tacho rolls, legally have to carry them" even if you drive a digital tacho truck?

I think you are getting a bit confused. The tacho roll he's referring to is what you stick in the printer. Your probably thinking of the old paper discs???
ah yeah
gary63693 always carry one because the other lads wont and expect one in the printer, I do to do print outs at the end of the day for my record.
Where do you put your PPE? I put mine in my backpack.
When I was cab hopping it all fit into the black bag I use in the video mate.
Ahh Cheers 👍
Cable ties ?
+jason antigua agreed, will be adding both 👍
Where did you get the truckers handbook please?
Links to everything are in the description dude 👍
Thanks Mate Much Appreciated 😊
Multi tool ?
+jason antigua yep good shout mate 👌
No condoms???
Cracking video really helpful.

KevTee very true buddy. Always plan for the unexpected. Never know what can happen. Anyway great video as always Kev.
In light of yesterday's video, you may want to add "battery powered sawzall" to the essentials. :D
I'm trying to find one small enough for the side locker 😂😂
