  • Multi Objective structural optimization grasshopper - parametric architecture (explained easy)
Optimized for minimum weight, minimum deflection and minimum bending moment using octopus plugin in Grasshopper.
This video explains how to use the parametric design for structural optimization. The outcomes are not the best possible solution. Automatic optimization is extremely difficult to achieve. Always check if the outcomes make sense and prevent proving the obvious. Stay rational, and explore the great possibilities of this tool.

    Hi,
I have several questions about using Octopus:
    1. At 11:43, you selected "Pareto front", while at 12:17, it shows "Elite" was used instead of "Pareto front"
    2. How long it took to finish the optimization? I have been running the optimization for more than 5 hrs, it's still searching.
    3. Could you show me a complete setting in Octopus?
    Thank you

Hello! I've got a problem at Analysis node (7:30), I've checked so many times and can't understand where is a discrepancy
    Node is orange and writes:
"1. There are 22 rigid body modes in the system. This means some parts can move freely without causing deformation.
Try to use the 'Eigen Modes'-component and activate the display of local coordinate axes: The first eigen-mode will be the rigid body motion.
If this does not help, check whether you have a pinned support directly attached to a hinge. A hinge introduces an extra node which may cause the problem.
When analyzing a flat shell structure one has to lock the rotation perpendicular to the plate in at least one node."
Does anybody have an idea what's wrong?
Thanks for your great work! ❤❤❤

Hi! Thanks for you question. Although it's hard to say what you can do without looking at the script. Please send me your .gh file. computate.design@gmail.com
