  • Chesapeake Light Craft's Jimmy Skiff II is a 13'2" skiff for sailing, rowing, and motoring. If you're looking to build a super-versatile utility skiff you'll be hard-pressed to find a better design. The Jimmy Skiff II rows beautifully, sails fast on all points, and handles an outboard engine with elegance.
    Built stitch-and-glue style with okoume plywood, fiberglass, and epoxy, the Jimmy Skiff II is suitable for novice builders. It's rugged, stable, and handsome.

    The off center daggerboard is an awesome feature. As in ‘why aren’t they all built that way’ awesome. Opens up a lot of room. It would be great to offer plans/kits with that as an option whenever there are side seats.

    Jimmy Skiff II w/ sailing kit is just the boat I need. I like to sail and also like to spend 2 or 3 days with motor on rivers, camping nights on the boat. I will be building one this winter. Also thanks for not having the noise in back of the naration in your video.

    Nice looking skiff. I especially like the CNC puzzle joints joining the planks, integrated flotation, and removable thwarts. I have camped in small boats and sleeping on board can be handy.

    Sweet. I think this would be a great winter project, but first I need to build a heated workshop.

    Very nice looks to be full of function-like the option to motor- Maybe Jimmy skiff could have option to be stretched a bit to about 15'8" for Larger persons & small families- Thanks for video.

    Great job on the video for this one. I think it would be great if you could find the time to go back and do videos like this for some of the other designs,including those that were first filmed back in ye olden days before 1080p on TH-cam.

    Hello, John! My english is very bad, sorry. I'm russian engineer. You can close the depression in the deck with a wide board. In these case two people can sleep into boat. Вuring swimming the board will lie on the bottom and not interfere. I hope you understand me.

    I not only love all the changes you guys made to the boat I actually like the overall look of her in the water better as well ive sailed on many small sailboats through out my life and even taught both my children the basics of sailing on them the new and improved Jimmy would be a improvement over any of the commercially sold Sailing Dinghies that are available and ive owned almost everyone of those because A) I grew up in South Florida and B) i had a small lake next to my home of 20 years and one other reason is ive owned 17 or 18 boats in my lifetime many of which required a Dinghy or Tender but in all honesty most of them were pretty boring and kind of ugly as they were usually just a plain white Plastic looking thing obviously Fiberglass hulls and another hobby of mine is actually sewing Marine Canvas and Vinyl as well as Vintage Automobile interiors for my personal collections and i bet the Jimmy two would be easy to build a Camping Canvas pretty easily for doing overnighters onboard for a very reasonable cost of materials plus with the outboard motor it would be easy to get to many remote areas to do a overnight thing as well heck with the right outboard setup you could probably out fit the boat with a small battery that can be charged with the motor

    I'm looking for a skiff that sails and that if we wanted we could take an average 30km trek in with a 5-10 hp Honda. The run is inshore, behind the reef for the most part. Like to hit around 10 knots - is that possible with this beauty?

    It is scenes like this that help me divert my brain away from Covid 19 concerns, at least temporarily. Can you tell me the sq. footage of the sail carried by the updated J.S.2 ?

    I've always laughed when Americans pronounce buoy 'boo-ie', but I never realised you also pronounce buoyancy 'boo-iancy'! At least it's consistent XD

    Stupid questions, but can it be sailed on salt water or just for calm lakes? Does it handle well enough on some mild choppy waters? At What wind speeds can it be sailed?

    • @ChesapeakeLightCraftBoats
      @ChesapeakeLightCraftBoats  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good questions. Yes, absolutely the Jimmy Skiff is good for salt water. (All of the video is on salt water.) It can handle fairly nasty chop, subject of course to the skill of the crew. We've sailed it in 20 knots or more. If those were your habitual wind conditions, adding a reef to the sail would be a good idea.

    What is the weight of your boat? And what power do you recommend to install the motor?

    • @ChesapeakeLightCraftBoats
      @ChesapeakeLightCraftBoats  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Jimmy Skiff II weighs 150lbs/68kg. We recommend a maximum of 2.5 horsepower.

    • @ChesapeakeLightCraftBoats
      @ChesapeakeLightCraftBoats  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, this boat is cartoppable. It would require two strong adults for the lift, but we've transported ours that way many times.

    What is “booincy? Could he have meant “buoyancy?” Maybe I’m crazy, but I think that a guy representing the “increased buoyancy” of a boat, should, (at least), actually be able to pronounce the word!

    • @ChesapeakeLightCraftBoats
      @ChesapeakeLightCraftBoats  4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I grew up in South Carolina. That's not the only word I absolutely butcher.
