I have a 95 year old narcissistic father. I would have been out of the picture years ago but I have a lovely mother that is still married to him. He definitely is a force to be reckoned with. He knows that I will not put up with his shenanigans and stand my guard. He is quite shocked that I do not accept his manipulations.

Spot on. I knew my ex for 25 years and didn't care about achievements or anything as we were longtime friends, but he had to constantly tell aggrandized stories about his work as a welder. He'd always say he was the only one who could put out that quality at his job. There were so many lies from small to big. They are such a dichotomy, the mask and the reality. I had no idea he was who he was, he always showed up as a solid friend but I came to see it was for show. The last lie was a woman who was "just a friend" and turned out to be much more.. now the mother to their two year old son. I cannot imagine lying even a quarter of the amount he does.
