THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU DID IN THIS VIDEO FOR ME WAS TO SAY AND SHOW THAT IF THE RELAY IS BAD YOU CAN SHAKE IT AND HEAR ITS BAD, THAT'S GREAT INFO . THANKS FOR THE VIDEO.
My old Sears chest freezer was not cooling and I replaced that relay with an extra I had a month ago. It cooled fine after that. Now it quit cooling again. The replacement is now almost $200 instead of under $20. The solenoid I'm told, is no longer available. I just disconnected it in case it was activating when it shouldn't. The repairman said it's only purpose is to activate a heating element. Perhaps that was the case because it manually flash thaws with a switch. Anyhow it's good to see that you didn't get ripped off. It's hard to find an honest repairman when it comes to anything, auto mechanic, plumber, doctors and lawyers.....most are crooks in my experiences, especially doctors and liers. Good job sir. ☕🙂👍
I work as a repairman and I never lied to my customers. This problem would have been solved on the first visit. If I misdiagnosed a problem, I would apologize and not charge for the extra visit. It is good of you to share your knowledge to others but you dont need to vilify all repairman who are actually honest and are true to their job
Allanb1743: Unfortunately, honest repair Tech. such as yourself are a dwindling number. Thanks to Extended Warranties many less scrupulous companies have seen this as a way to maximize profit, by fitting unnecessary parts, and regrettably this has also become the norm for the regular paying customer, not covered by a warranty. Equally, the level of diagnosis skills of many Techs. is questionable, to say the least; many have become nothing more than fitters, whose idea of troubleshooting is to simply swap parts over and see if it works. Now I don't know if that's due to the pressure of completing a set number of calls per day, or simply a lower level of knowledge, but either way, the poor unsuspecting customer is the one holding the over-inflated bill! I really don't believe "Another" was intentionally branding all repairmen the same, but simply relaying (excuse the pun!) his own true experience, and that of people he knows!
But most of you repairmen are scammers though, especially if you can tell that the customer has very little knowledge about the appliance or device that they are trying to fix. And not just you guys, but auto mechanics, auto dealers for sure (lol), and a whole host of other "professions." It's a very dog eat dog kind of world. 😌😎
It's best not to be left in the hands of a service company. If you can do it yourself, do it. That's my motto in life. It is very rare that i call a repair technician.
I LOVE YOUR ATTITUDE. I had a tech come out for a failed ice chute drop and in 5 minutes he said "your main panel is bad" , I paid for his service call and dismissed him. It was an $8 part and 10 minutes work, he was going to charge $500 plus whatever else he found. PEOPLE. The panel is the last thing to check on a list of 20 other items, the panel rarely gives out unless something else shorts out and fries a capacitor.
We found the breaker thrown on our fridges circuit when we got home yesterday. When we reset, it immediately threw it again. We ran a drop cord to another room and plugged it in in place of the washing machine, it came on and appeared to be working again. Around 2:30 am my daughter reported it was out again. When I reset the breaker, I heard a pronounced clicking noise, sounded like it was coming from fairly high up on the back of the fridge, about one click per second. With each click, the lights would dim momentarily, After about 20 seconds, it threw the breaker again. I pulled the fridge out from the wall to see if i could see anything, reset the breaker again, and it came on and appears to be staying on, no more clicking. It seems to be cooling, but not cooling quite as well as it should be, freezer at 34 degrees. no sign of trouble before then. What are the other things I can chevk that may have messed up the board?
Thank you very much I am a woman alone and I'm having the same difficulty with my refrigerator. I did not know what to do I am gonna try that 1st I appreciate people like you helping the rest of us.
Thanks for the video! Ordered the correct relay on eBay for £5, fitted as per your instructions and now fridge working perfectly again. Saved me £300, and saved a perfectly good fridge going into landfill.
My chest freezer stopped working during the weekend. I watched your video, ordered a relay on Amazon, for 16$CAD and it is fixed! The part replacement took 10 minutes! Thanks a lot for this video, it really helped me diagnose and fix the problem!
I concur on the integrity of many appliance repair men. We had an ice maker which cost $500/year in repairs for a few years. Finally bought a new one for just a little more than that. Same repair guy charged $1200 to get our subzero fridge going again. I am hoping your video will lead me to a $10 solution as my symptoms are similar.
In my case compressor not turning on at all. Removed relay but there was no rattling sound. Stuck the relay on wall several times and plug it back. And yup in no time compressor start working. Thanks a lot man for your video. I am network technician and love to search and fix everything maximum myself. U saved me a lot. Be blessed 🙏 and keep sharing

My 3 year old fridge/freezer broke down. I followed your instructions however the relay had 6 wires attached so I took loads of photos before dismantling, ordered the part, put it back together & hey presto now purring like a kitten. Thankyou thankyou!!!
I just want to thank you for your video. I'm a single, disabled person on a fixed income and would have never been able to afford a new fridge. I followed your instructions and ordered a new starter relay. I just installed it and it worked! Thanks again for your video, you saved me a ton of stress and money!
Omg! Used this info and just fixed my fridge! Luckily I found a place that had it an hour away and was able to get this fixed in the nick of time. You are a lifesaver! Thanks!
Hi. I'm form Malaysia. I can relate with the things that you said in your introduction. I've experienced that too. I can feel your anger. That's why i don't trust any repairman and thats why I'm here. Thank you for the video.
Bless you sir. You are providing a service to your fellow man worth its weight in gold by way of the the satisfaction of saving a ton of money and having accomplished this yourself. I am through with service contracts and having techs come out. We had a service contract with Sears and they were late on one or two occasions and on two other occasions, they were no-shows. Sadly, this seems to be the new normal with some services. Gone are the days of reliable and affordable service. Now it's gouge the customer if and when you even decide to show up. Peace and blessings to you my friend.
Excellent work and you explained very well everyone understand, you just saved me Dh 400 and lots of time from a technician repair guy. Spend only Dh 5 a new relay and did this myself. Your are legendary for us. Thanks a lot.
I own an appliance repair business and depending on the problem with the refrigerator, they are the single hardest machine to diagnose as far as appliances go. They have so many components and there’s so many different styles. Also I don’t know why but most techs will NOT replace that part and will just install a hard start.
Dont tell this schmuck about anything involving repairs he is taking food out of your mouth if you own a repair company. Morons like this that figure out how to solve the simplest problem a refrigerator can have and then bad mouth technicians like they know what they are talking about piss me off
You just helped me diagnose our old Montgomery Ward Freezer,it may just need that Relay Replacement, because I hear that clicking on and off from Compressor, since my Superwomen just defrosted it ,but this time is not freezing anymore. You are now Fridge and Freezer police busting those crookeds ,I am glad not to be in that kinda business. Of course there are always some honest ones out there too.Appreciate it!
Thank you so much for your video! You nailed our problem exactly. I could hear the clicking sound, and was able to trace it after hearing your description, to the relay. Our 15 year old Kenmore (Amana) has a different, and expensive relay, but same basic setup. The relay was broken into a dozen pieces inside. Works great now! Thanks again!
Great video!!! I had a similar situation and was planning on buying a new refrigerator before I found this video. Ordered the start relay for my fridge and replaced it and fixed the issue for about $14.
I'm single and disabled on a very limited income. So glad I came across your video. Will be trying to find a relay and installing myself. Thank you so much for sharing.
TY. I used to be a rental property owner and had a rental tenant use a fire extinguisher in the laundry room. According to the tech, he could have fixed both the water heater and furnace that were affected by the ABC fire extinguisher dust for "just" $1608 USD. I used a spare piece of plastic tubing which fixed the furnace and vacuumed the vent on the water tank and fixed both for $0.00. Tenants, no more, thank you very much.
@@AnotherOverTaxedTaxPayer I gladly reply to quality videos that are well done, contain common sense and clearly explain what's happening. In fact, your flick was all the above and you're probably keeping money in my pocket, what more can I ask for? Subbed and bell. Keep at what you do!
Our lg needed the works! It was covered from lg and home depot... So everything got replaced. I was there for it all. Firmware, compressor, relay, dryer.. good after
Thanks for this video. I was about to throw out a mini-fridge thinking that it was beyond repair when I saw this. Now it's up and running pretty good!!
I am so hopeful that what you just showed me is the issue. I have been without a frig for 3 mo bcuz I couldn't afford another rip off technician. I just wanted to thank you in advance for giving me the courage to do this myself! I'll let you know how it goes. TY Juli😊
My fridge and freezer stopped cooling. U can hear it turn on then it clocks and turns off. I'm hoping it's the relay switch. I will try this soon. Praying it works. Thanks for the info. Stay blessed
Called "Sears" to look at my fridge,,,same problem He told me the same thing,,but called it a compacitor,,,wanted $700.00 bucks to fix it I took the part off a buddy stopped at a hvac store and picked one up for 35.00 bucks been running for 15 yrs now
Great video. I am in the midst of diagnosing what is likely this problem. My husband works out of town a lot and a long time ago I learned that many "reputable" repair men try to take advantage and sell unnecessary things to "repair" appliances. I even had an HVAC guy turn my a/c fuse upside down when I literally just turned my back (because I watch everyone like a hawk) and attempt to totally disable the unit in an attempt to sell an entire brand new a/c unit for our home. I do almost all of our repairs now - whether microwave, dishwasher, a/c, furnace, refrigerator, gutter guards, heat tape; you name it....
Greatest ever video came across TH-cam,,,, much much appreciated,,,, We as community need to help each other out this way, please guys upload every little this kind of tricky things, sooo we can learn and lessen the hassle
Oh man thank you so much for sharing your knowledge! I really hate seeing people getting ripped off. I really appreciate you for taking the time to help others.
Have a similar issue with my wine cooler, after a power outage it started clicking, some research shows it's the exact same part. Removed it with a flat blade screwdriver and although it didn't rattle I am hoping that the new part will start up the compressor. Thanks for taking the time to do the video.
Awesome video! Make sure the wires are re-installed correctly. I have the same refrigerator and accidentally had the wires reversed. It started and ran for about 30 seconds and shut off. I put the wires back the way they are supposed to be an it works correctly. Again, great job!
Thanks for this video . My fridge when I plug in the wire the fridge light inside the fridge working but the fridge compressor and the little cooling fan the one next to the copmressoer not running ?
I have a French door refrigerator with the bottom freezer. Most of the time the refrigerator thermostat is correct but the freezer fluctuates up and down. On the thermostat setting the recommended setting for the freezer is zero and the recommended setting for the refrigerator thermostat is set to 37. When you need to adjust your temperature settings, it shows you the actual temperature of the freezer side and the refrigerator side first. Then if you want to change temperature you press it again and that lets you set a new temperature. I probably should’ve let you know this refrigerator was manufactured in 2008 so it is old and has lasted a long time but has begun having problems over the past six months. However, for the last couple of months, it has been clicking very frequently maybe twice every 5 to 10 minutes. So today I pulled it away from the nook in our kitchen, took off the back cardboard panel and vacuumed out the dust. The coils were covered with dust. The canister was clean, and the copper lines did not have dust buildup on them. it was mostly on the coils. The fan that blows hot air away from the coils is working, fine. so I sucked out with the shop vac & got what I could "my hands are kind of big, and it’s very tight area to work with ”tomorrow I’m gonna bring in an air compressor and really blow it all out and get much more of the dust off of the coils. It has a computer board that sits a little higher up behind a removable panel. I’m not sure if the reley is on the computer board or down below where yours was located!!! I don’t know if it’s on the computer board or if it’s somewhere around the canister that holds the Freon but I noticed that it was blowing very very warm air coming out the front of the fridge down where your feet are there’s a little vent. However, since I’ve taken it off and cleaned everything it is running cooler but it’s still clicking, so hopefully I’ll be able to find the relay. Maybe if I can find the model number you’ll know exactly where it’s at. But I really appreciate your video!!!!! Mine is clicking very very often and it’s the freezer side that is having the most fluctuation in temperature from 0° to 19 or 20 which is thawing food. If you’re able to get back to me or this video is still active I’ll definitely try to give you a model number and maybe you’ll know exactly where it’s but either way I really appreciate your video. We honestly started checking refrigerator prices at Home Depot and Lowe’s and we really didn’t want to spend over $900 because we can’t afford a $2500 refrigerator. It would make me so proud. If I could fix this for my mother for under 20 bucks. I don’t know really how to use multimeters on all these electrical connections and know the set readings and voltage they should be kicking out so worst case scenario if I have to call a technician, I’ll save some time for his labor since I’ve already removed the covering so he should he can’t charge me an hour for taking off the coverings to get to the problem lol!!! I’ll just ask him. Where is the solenoid switch that’s causing the clicking and then I’ll send them on his way. Unless it is something much more expensive, I’m a little worried because the copper Freon lines aren’t very cold at the moment and they never were dusty to begin with it, all the dust was on the coils. However since cleaning it’s definitely not blowing out hot air anymore. bBut the clicking is still permanent and kinda loud to honest. But regardless Thank you again, sir!!! I’m thinking that our problems were identical, so I’m thinking your video it’s going to get me in the right direction. Get back to me if you can but I understand it’s probably been many many years since you’ve made this video. Very helpful video!!! I just wish you would’ve had the same model as mine. She’s been a good refrigerator almost 20 years old.😊
I do agree with you on the difficulty in finding an honest appliance repair technician, however, we honest tech are out here. I would also agree with going with a smaller business but, you must also be careful traveling that road too. Duane's Appliance Tech Solutions, LLC out of Greensboro , NC can be trusted to correctly diagnose the issue, as well as be totally honest. It's the way we roll out here!
I never meant to imply that every technician out there was a thief. I guess what you were hearing was my frustration at the situation. However I do know that there are honest people out there who run honest businesses.
It’s all good! I too have been there so I know how you feel. You have a right to voice your view, and we appreciate that fact you took the time to share. Folk like you help some of us technicians to become better at what we do when you provide feedback. We love happy customers and that’s what motivates us to perfect our skills. Thank you for making the video we need your feedback.
Thank you for that video, that shortened my time to figure out what was the issue by like days in advance as well as $$$ it would cost me to get someone to look at it. Due to the fact that I'm in Canada, it will cost me more than what you paid for yours just in shipping cost but still worth it as it was a freezer found outside at a house that was going for sale. $25CAD vs $220CAD brand new.
wow. thank you. I just pulled the back off my garage frig, magic chef. I'm pretty sure it's the freakin' relay too. Can't thank you enough. Oh, don't apologize for shaking hands. I have them too.

Thanks buddy. You just saved me a ton of time and money. Chest freezer kept clicking on and off and so I did a little research because I think it's crazy to spend money on having someone look at anything if I can find out what it is myself and get it done myself and in doing my research your video popped up under Google and sure enough after checking the relay switch it rattles like a baby rattle toy so I ordered one on Ebay for $3.99 with free shipping (I prefer Ebay over Amazon any day) and it's on it's way and it'll be fixed soon. Thanks so much for this video cause I'm sure it's helped/helping tons of people who think they need to replace their entire appliance. You just got yourself a new subscriber. **UPDATE** Got the new start relay switch in the mail and installed it and my chest freezer is up and running like nothing ever happened again!
Thanks for that - I'll give it a try, and let you know how it turns out. This is the 2nd fridge I've had go south - I too got stung the first time around by a repair guy who did a cursory inspection of the back and declared that the computer board was bad, and it would cost $800. to fix it. I declined, but still had to fork over $100. for the service call! Crossing my fingers that your fix works!
So I have a question about a wine cooler fridge. From other videos I watched, we replaced the relay and overload part but when I plug in, it clicks, then gets cold, then the compressor gets hot the the temperature warms back up inside. Suggestions?
I used to be a wine collector. My favorite is Bacio Divino 1996 thru 1998 vintages, but also appreciate Amarone and Petite Syrah. Depending on wine cooler size, they are cheap. Sounds like a bad compressor or one that needs a refill of freon, but honestly I must admit that I don't know.
This is the best video on electrical appliances I have ever seen. Hopefully I will fix my American style refrigerator not cooling up by myself. I will post here the video of my refrigerator
They fixed my fridge yesterday, cost me 120 euro's but later that day it did exactly the same like before. They will come back and for free but I just don't trust it anymore. If I still have a problem with my fridge after they check on it again, I'm gonna do this and hopefully it works.
THANK YOU!! Have a GE side-by-side and it stopped Friday. Saturday I saw your video and ordered the relay. Tuesday the part came and ... it's running/cooling!!I I was glad to see on your video the cover and the relay did not come out easy. They don't. But I pried them off, again after watching you struggle a little. Had you not shown the difficulty in removing I might have given up.
Here goes...our Fridge went out, I looked up a repair video on TH-cam & found yours. THANK-YOU!! While the parts for my Kenmore were $135, I am sure I saved a lot more by repairing the Fridge myself. I’d offer to buy you a drink to say thanks, but this is all I can do: 🍹!!
Thank you. My 18 (approx) month old GE refrigerator is doing exactly what you described - starts for 5 seconds, then off for a minute and on 5 seconds - and it cycles like this continuously. How did you find the correct relay part number?
@@AnotherOverTaxedTaxPayer I had a GE tech come out and check it. He says the compressor locked up. It draws 12 amps continuously during the 5 seconds it tries to run. He replaced the start relay - didn't help. So, looks like I'm getting a new refrigerator as it costs more to fix this one than to buy a new one. Thanks for the help!
@@dalesupertramp9234 might be computer board. So easy to fix if it is board. Did tech check board?? After all, he was wrong about fridge not working due to a locked up compressor.
@@AnotherOverTaxedTaxPayer The tech put an amp meter on the compressor. When it tried to start, it pulled a steady 12 amps continuously. If it had been the control board, it wouldn't have done that. A locked up compressor will do that. Anyway, that fridge is gone and a new one replaced it this past week - mostly paid for by the extended warranty fortunately.
Great video! We feel the same way about many servicemen and we really try to do it ourselves a lot of the time! We really appreciate the information and hoping this is It! We're going to check and buy it tomorrow. Have a great one!
I have the same problem my fridge it turn off and on without cold yesterday I call defy shop they said i must buy the new compressor with ralay, from south Africa thanks very much.
OOOOHH!!!!! THANK U!!!! THANK U!!!! THANK U SOOOO VERY MUCH!!!! I Have 3 Refrigerators That Had This Very Same Problem..Watched Your Video "3" Times...Pulled All "3" Little "Do-Dads" Out...Was Able To Get The Parts (Locally)...Replaced Them....Guess What....I Now Have "4" Running Refrigerators!!!!!!! So Glad I Didn't Get Rid Of The Poor Things...SIR!!! You Are A Blessing In My Eyes...A Real Hero To Us Ladies...Again...THANK U!!!!!
Replaced this an hour ago, still have the short cycling problem. So now I spent $22 on a new relay and I have two good relays and food going bad in the freezer.
The relay’s purpose is to tell the compressor when to start and stop based off of voltages. When the relay breaks there are little metal contacts inside that it will either break or become flimsy (which is why you heard something shaking inside when you shook it) and won’t pass voltages properly resulting in the compressor shutting off to prevent damage. I’m an electrician and more often than not it’s the smaller things that break first. I’m no fridge technician but I had a repairman that was actually very helpful and helped me figure it out over the phone free of charge.
Thanks for your honest straightforward video. Our freezer thawed tonite at dinner time, and by 7:00pm, I had found your video, my husband had removed the defective relay switch and had verified he could get one in the morning. I found you just by searching our problem - so easy! Thanks for your help!
i have the same .. that my relay is clicken .. but i replaced it with another (same model) cooler... and again the same click .. and the previous part i used in the other cooler and works fine ... so in my case its not the relay.... any other sugestion please ?
I cannot find that piece. Mine looks very different. I have a undercounter fridge with small freezer compartment. I removed the metal clip and also the black cover.. There are too many wires and different colors not sure where the relay is thanks
I hate to say this but I used to work for a repair company and believe it or not most of the repair techs were new and really didn't know what they were doing. When you call In for a repair claim tell the company you are willing to wait for their most experienced tech. Trust me it makes a big difference especially when it comes to correct diagnosis.
I could use your input, my LG french door refrigerator/ bottom drawer freezer has no cooling but the compressor is running perfectly, the compressor and evaporator fans both work, no problems on the main panel, so I'm thinking a temp sensor or thermistor? Please offer your opinion. Thanks much
Mine did turn out to be a bad compressor, I didn't know they can work "partially" (compressor only mildly cooled it)..but surprisingly LG covered my new compressor well past the warranty expiration (I'm talking years) and we bought our $3000 model from one of those no-name warehouses on craigslist for a big discount
You are the true MVP champ. Put this on Facebook. It’s quite entertaining, besides being helpful. I like how you spoke like if you were the one at home watching with all the commentary. #Priceless
Thank you so much for providing this video. After watching this I gained enough knowledge and confidence to fix my own refrigerator. It did take a bit of effort but your instructions were very good so I had no problem doing it myself. The capacitor was a bit expensive, around $55, but I imagine if I had hired someone else to do it, it would have cost four times that. And it's not just the savings on the money, in the process I learned a lot and gained a lot of confidence, so thank you!!!
Great job! I have a Kenmore Elite that developed a freezer issue that caused the freezer coils to be completely frozen after only 4 years and it stopped the fan from cycling air. A very cool tech told me how to fix that but now the fridge goes into a shutdown mode every 8-10hrs. I just reset the circuit breaker and it keeps recycling the main board and or the defrost timing board for another 8-10hrs. Also resets the lcd display. Have you run into a problem like this or heard of problem like it? I'm sure it's something very simple. It's just the labor of taking the freezer apart that takes time. Anyway thanks again. God bless.
I have a problem with my fridge that goes off and its running for hours then it turns off by itself them about 9 hours it goes back on again. There times i heard like a cracking nose. But so rare when that happens. Inside the fridge where the light bulb is theres the knob to adjust the temperature and sometimes it dosent work i pad it with my hands about 5 times and it works but it turns off about in 2 hours. Another thing that when i try to set it up in the lower cicle 1.2.3. It dosent work. Only the highter cicle but it continues to turn off then after so many hours goes on
Great video. One suggestion: you might want to add make and model of this fridge into the title, so people will find it quick by googling. Judging by people's comments, I'm guessing it's a common problem for this fridge.
You are very perceptive... this is an older Kenmore Elite as many of the newer Elites are made by LG and use linear/inverter compressors. They don't use relays.
@@rickeykeeton4770 it was a problem but single speed compressors are rarely manufactured today in other than the most basic refrigerators. Most current and upscale models use inverters with variable speed compressors due to their efficiency.
Bought a new defrost timer that works perfect but, the coils are "always" frozen up!? Also, both the freezer and fridg settings has to be on the warmest setting!? This is a whirlpool top freezer. What causes this? Awesome video. Thanks so much. GOD bless.
Thank you. I fixed a small chest freezer with a replacement compressor start relay off EBay from China for about £2.50. (Inside it's just a PTC resistor - the noise is when it has disintegrated.)
My broken relay is a two prong, not three, and 4.7 ohm White is on prong 2 and black is on 3. There are no prongs where one and four are numbered. Can I get a three prong relay like yours and move wires straight across to the new relay where they were as two and three on the old relay? And as you show here there will be one unused post? Thanks.
Awesome, thank you for this video. You helped me get the relay switch out. My Igloo 3.5 Freezer has the same Compressor and Relay set up and my Relay was broken. Wish I would have seen this when our Refrigerator stopped. We tossed it and bought another. Should have known it was something easy to fix! Thank you again, Angela B
I wonder if you can help me I have the same exact model. It is not really that old maybe six months old Basically the switches are working... It works exactly as it's supposed to accept the prongs that make the ice and get frosty do not get frosty.. I did check the overload for the compressor.. it read 1.0 ohms when it was cold or room temp.. The only thing I can think of is the compressor is not working.. I hear it click on and off it sounds like it's turning on but again not getting cold?
I just bought a Magic Chef refrigerator 10.1 cubic feet and a Magic Chef chest freezer 7.0 cubic feet on sale (June 2022). I watched YT videos on what may go wrong with them in the future. I plan to purchase about 2 or 3 cheap items ahead so if I have a problem I may be able to fix it myself. It's an investment (cheaper than a repairman). TIP: If your warranty is OUT, and you don't know how to fix it, it may be better to call an ELECTRICIAN instead of a refrigeration repair man. Most of the time it's an electrical problem (ask how much they will charge BEFORE they come out). Hope this helps someone. .

Go on appliancepartspro.com on their search engine enter the model no. and part that you need. Careful entering it on google since it could misguide you to order wrong part. BTW I am the so called dishonest repairman that everyone thinks that we are all out to rip customers off.
Just a side comment ... some fridges do get low on Freon, but they are now usually made as sealed units, so you are screwed. (They just want you to buy a new fridge, each time!) That happened with my old side-by-side Amana, about 5 years ago, so I merely got a technician to install a bullet piercing valve on the line from the compressor and top up the R-134a Freon. (Fortunately, I have not had to add any more, since that time).
@@hull_k0gan641 I don't know what would cause the click. My comment was merely a side note about modern freezers being sealed systems ... the design of which compels you to buy a new fridge when it no longer cools properly. In most cases, the Freon has just run low, so installing the valve enables you add more Freon.
Westinghouse Roper fridge. Freezer was revving on and off. It quit at first after half hour. Noise has gone away and fridge part not keeping things cool. Wondering if this is the same problem.
You're speculating about the repair man charging for the parts but not installing them. Though his method could use some refinement, he would have left your house with a repaired refrigerator. By "throwing parts" at it, he eliminated the major issues. You need to be very stern in your request to fix the fridge for the lowest cost. A lot of companies don't want to leave you with a repaired fridge that may fail again in three months! With a new compressor and computer board, it could run for years. Also, always ask for your old parts back. Record an identifying mark or number beforehand. Cheers!
I need assistant, I have no cooling at all on my Samsung RS2530BBP refrigerator. Freon is ok in my compressor, I’ve installed a condenser motor w/fan and a relay connected to the compressor. But still no cooling, what do you guys think? I need help!!
Hi, are you saying the fridge is not cooling but the freezer is? The relay is a switch that turns on the compressor only, it is subject to sensor controls and works via a motherboard that regulates the the units performance. The majority of the time sensors are at fault and the the first thing to check, however unplug and see if the unit powers on. If you get clicking, suspect the relay switch to be faulty.
@@rrogers2014 Do you have any vibration from the motor? is it clicking? have you checked plug fuse? you have to backtrack from the plug to the motor and then investigate each component after that to locate the main problem. Not easy I know, but a matter of elimination.
Thanks for the great video.
I had exactly same problem with my freezer.
It works absolutely perfect now.
Great to hear!
hello I replaced my relay and overload and my refrigerator started working again but only for a few hours then stopped working again any suggestions
THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU DID IN THIS VIDEO FOR ME WAS TO SAY AND SHOW THAT IF THE RELAY IS BAD YOU CAN SHAKE IT AND HEAR ITS BAD,
THAT'S GREAT INFO .
THANKS FOR THE VIDEO.

You just saved me $800 from a shady repair guy. Spent only $14 on a new relay and did this myself. Can’t thank you enough. You got my respect.
Thank you for stopping by and watching the video. I'm glad I was able to help you.
W@@AnotherOverTaxedTaxPayerwhere can I buy the relay I'm in California

Glad it helped
Was your compressor coming on 5 seconds, then off for a minute in cycles? That's what mine is doing.
yes, same as mine
My chest freezer stopped working during the weekend. I watched your video, ordered a relay on Amazon, for 16$CAD and it is fixed! The part replacement took 10 minutes! Thanks a lot for this video, it really helped me diagnose and fix the problem!
I appreciate your support

I own an appliance repair business and depending on the problem with the refrigerator, they are the single hardest machine to diagnose as far as appliances go. They have so many components and there’s so many different styles. Also I don’t know why but most techs will NOT replace that part and will just install a hard start.
thank you for sharing the info.
I hope this works. I got my part off of Amazon.

Thank you so much for watching.

Have a similar issue with my wine cooler, after a power outage it started clicking, some research shows it's the exact same part. Removed it with a flat blade screwdriver and although it didn't rattle I am hoping that the new part will start up the compressor. Thanks for taking the time to do the video.
I used to collect wine. My favorite was Bacio Devino
Did your new part work?
@@georgiaboytj Sadly not, I replaced the control board and it worked. Still cheaper than buying a whole new cooler.

Might be computer board.
Unless it is something much more expensive, I’m a little worried because the copper Freon lines aren’t very cold at the moment
and they never were dusty to begin with it, all the dust was on the coils.
Thank you for your comments

Thanks buddy. You just saved me a ton of time and money. Chest freezer kept clicking on and off and so I did a little research because I think it's crazy to spend money on having someone look at anything if I can find out what it is myself and get it done myself and in doing my research your video popped up under Google and sure enough after checking the relay switch it rattles like a baby rattle toy so I ordered one on Ebay for $3.99 with free shipping (I prefer Ebay over Amazon any day) and it's on it's way and it'll be fixed soon. So I have a question about a wine cooler fridge. From other videos I watched, we replaced the relay and overload part but when I plug in, it clicks, then gets cold, then the compressor gets hot the the temperature warms back up inside. Suggestions?
I used to be a wine collector. My favorite is Bacio Divino 1996 thru
1998 vintages, but also appreciate Amarone and Petite Syrah. Depending on wine cooler size, they are cheap. Sounds like a bad compressor or one that needs a refill of freon, but honestly I must admit that I don't know.

Google serial number and part type
@@AnotherOverTaxedTaxPayer I had a GE tech come out and check it. He says the compressor locked up. It draws 12 amps continuously during the 5 seconds it tries to run.

Thanks much
Perhaps it's the computer board, easy to replace
Mine did turn out to be a bad compressor, I didn't know they can work "partially" (compressor only mildly cooled it)..but surprisingly LG covered my new compressor well past the warranty expiration (I'm talking years) and we bought our $3000 model from one of those no-name warehouses on craigslist for a big discount
I thought what is said in the start only happened in the Netherlands...lol.

God bless.
freezing coils sounds like low or high freeon.
Great job with the lighting
Thanks
I have a problem with my fridge that goes off and its running for hours then it turns off by itself them about 9 hours it goes back on again. There times i heard like a cracking nose. But so rare when that happens. Inside the fridge where the light bulb is theres the knob to adjust the temperature and sometimes it dosent work i pad it with my hands about 5 times and it works but it turns off about in 2 hours. Another thing that when i try to set it up in the lower cicle 1.2.3. It dosent work. Only the highter cicle but it continues to turn off then after so many hours goes on
motherboard
My fridge problem is with coils one which is attached on the compressor broke so can it be repaired or not?????
I dont know
Great video.
This is a somewhat common problem with many different makes.
GOD bless.
Change the defrost sensor and hitter glass..
Thank you. I fixed a small chest freezer with a replacement compressor start relay off EBay from China for about £2.50. (Inside it's just a PTC resistor - the noise is when it has disintegrated.)
Thank you for your comment
My broken relay is a two prong, not three, and 4.7 ohm White is on prong 2 and black is on 3. There are no prongs where one and four are numbered. Can I get a three prong relay like yours and move wires straight across to the new relay where they were as two and three on the old relay? And as you show here there will be one unused post? Thanks.
Amazon
Thnx, mine just quit working! Checked the piece and sure enough you shake it and has little pieces rattling inside of it
Thank you for watching
How did you "pry" the cover off of the Start Relay??
Flat screw driver. Was very easy.
Thank you for your comment
I wonder if you can help me I have the same exact model. It is not really that old maybe six months old
Basically the switches are working...
I would Google your symptoms of your refrigerator along with your model number
How much to replace a T stat and other item next to it on a refrig Frigidaire Gallery ?

Greetings from Canada. Thank you sir..I followed your instructions and fixed my fridge my self...you saved me $400!!!! ..👍( part cost me $60)
I am very happy I could help

Hi....This is Bryan from "AnotherOverTaxedTaxpary" channel.
I know I have not posted videos in a while, but I am sending you this email to notify
you that I've created another youtube channel
called "Prepping For A Commoner" . If you have a difficult time finding it, try "Preppingforacommoner"
Be warned, this will pretty much be the same channel with the same type of videos and I WILL be
recycling some of my overtaxed videos onto the new channel. I WILL ALSO POST NEW VIDEOS.
If you could, share this info.

Thank You, bro. My LG fridge stop cooling after a lightning storm, so I'm to going to check on that part.
Glad to help
How do I figure out what part I need to order ? I have a kenmore side by side fridge & freezer.
you will need to locate your model number and type that in to google along with the part name.
Cheers!
Thanks so much! you saved me at least 200 dollars today..
Glad I could help!
That sucks, but sign of the times. Glad you stood up to that crap.
Thanks for watching
@@gazsto9510 nothing is cooling
@@rrogers2014 Do you have any vibration from the motor? is it clicking? have you checked plug fuse? you have to backtrack from the plug to the motor and then investigate each component after that to locate the main problem. Not easy I know, but a matter of elimination.
Thanks! Excellent explanation. I watched this video before starting. Now I have to see if that's the problem, but it sounds spot on.
I thank you for your video. It helped me to find out what was wrong and the part to replace my fridge. Thank you kindly...!
Glad it helped
My problem is one coil broke so what next now is it finished or they can repair it
